- Exploring a creepy old burned-out casino town with AMAZING abandoned ruins. Sorry the video is so long...but there was SO MUCH amazing stuff to explore! Research indicates that Soper's Montgomery Pass Casino/Restaurant burned down in 2010, but I wasn't able to find much more info online. If anyone knows anything, please comment below or email me...I'd love to hear your stories and memories!
My parents used to manage that motel and I was born on the floor in the casino that burned down in 2010. There used to be a plaque in the casino with my name on it, as the only living native of Montgomery Pass.
The town hasn't been abandoned forever, and I'm not that old.

Montgomery Pass was the first place I ever gambled, and Janie's ranch was another first time for me. I grew up in Bishop. Thanks for this and all of your videos, they bring back slot of good memories for me as I have explored many of the same places that you have.and have similar interests..

You're a great explorer and intrepid adventurer and I'm jealous of your ability to take off down the road. I live vicariously through people like you. One thing sort of puts me on edge: all though these places are down and out, there's a good chance that some are not really abandoned. If you find yourself in flip flops and shorts, with nothing in your hand but a camera, you might not be in position to get away from the drunken schitzo who claims this spot as his little slice of heaven. Where a normal person might see a burned out hellhole, this guy might imagine you're an assassin sent by the secret police. Be careful!!!

I agree....trolls are just immature humans who get a charge out of saying awful things. Like the obnoxious class clown out to hassle anyone who isn't in the room to call them "jerk".
i personally like it when they talk. watching it in silence lets you pay more attention to the scene but talking is fun to listen to commentary. i also like it because i talk too much too. if people dont like it they can suck it up and watch other people.... and most of the male urban explorers talk wayyy too much as well because they love urban exploration. :)
i don't mind the talking explaining what we are seeing but having music as a background sound is a little over the top to me. another pet peeve is to much selfies time. i watch to see what they are exploring. not really into talking heads.

I have that same pink tile in my bathroom now. My grandfather built our house in 1954. It was real popular tile back then.

We had some good times at Soper's in the 1990s. Only fifty miles from Bishop it was a fun Saturday afternoon getaway before the Paiute Palace Casino (now Wanaaha) opened. Soper's was a classic Nevada casino that spoke to an era before corporate management takeovers. Someone thought Montgomery Pass would make a great tourist destination as evidenced by the Boundary Peak Motel which was haunted by its own murderous scandal. Soper's was bright and cheery thanks to its big picture windows. Free well drinks if you played the slots and tables. Coins clinked away when a small jackpot was hit. It was a beautiful setting on the high pass often visited by the White Mountain herd of wild horses, which still wander through on occasion today. To be sure, it was a difficult location. There was the occasional armed robbery because of its isolation and it was too expensive to keep stocked with reasonably priced supplies as it wasn't on a main travel route. Now tractor-trailers travel Highway 6 daily en route to Idaho and points north from Southern California. Thanks for recording it. It's too bad you couldn't have seen it in all its original glory.

I just watched your abandoned casino town, fascinating. I grew up exploring abandoned houses in Western Colorado, still haven't lost the attraction to wandering through what people leave behind. Spent some time in an old gold mining town while my dad was drilling for core samples of Gold and silver, totally amazing.
Hey Miss Wonder, that William Kelley was a movie star! He's on IMDB! "William Kelley was born on May 27, 1929 in Staten Island, New York, USA. He is known for his work on Witness (1985), The Winds of Kitty Hawk (1978) and The Blue Lightning (1986). He was married to Nina Kelley. He died on February 3, 2003 in Bishop, California, USA."
The LA Times article described him, at his passing: "William Kelley, a television and film writer who shared an Academy Award for screenwriting for his work on the 1985 movie "Witness," has died. He was 73.
Kelley died of cancer Monday at his home in Bishop, where he had lived since 1994. ((Clearly he was there before that? Based on what you found... I'm thinking... doesn't really matter, though.))
"Witness" was co-written by Earl W. Wallace and based on an original story by Kelley, Wallace and Pamela Wallace.
It is a tale that begins with an Amish boy's witnessing a murder while on a trip to Philadelphia with his mother. When the police detective in charge of the case discovers that the murder plot originated in the department, he hides out among the Amish to protect both the boy and himself.
Peter Weir directed the movie, which starred Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis.
Kelley and Earl Wallace first met in the 1970s when Kelley was writing scripts for "Gunsmoke" and Wallace was the show's executive story consultant.
"Bill had a marvelous sense of humor, in addition to being very well-educated," Wallace recalled Thursday. "He had a tremendous love of poetry and could recite it by the hour in that marvelous, Irish raconteurish way. He was just a joy to be around."
His address at Rocking K Ranch has many businesses listed, amongst which are a wedding ceremony location.

The Item you picked up in the upstairs with the four large holes in it was a cylinder head gasket from a v-8 engine. I would love to go exploring like this. I have always loved old ghost towns.

I worked at coaldale junction in 1986 or so and my Mother in law worked at boundary peak. I`m going to make this as short as possible. The sopher owned the casino and cafe. the house where for employees. They had owned the Hotel across the street and sold it. Well the man they sold it to had some problems with the soapher and the water to the hotel was shut off. I`m not sure if this was before the murders at the hotel or after. The man they had sold it to had brought a few convicts out of Vegas to run it. One night one of them killed the other two or three in the office complex and proceeded to go to the rooms and kill the guests. I lost my Job at the truck stop cafe in Coaldale and went up to the pass with mother in law as she said she could get me a Job running the Motel. I talked with the guy that owned it and moved into the office. Well my mother in Law told us if we ran the motel we where not welcome on the other side of the road. We packed up and went to the second house where my mother in law lived. Then Mrs Shoaper (not sure how they spelled their name maybe soapher) She told me the story and showed me the wanted poster. The guy had killed them with an ax and took one of the guest trucks and headed for Bishop California. He cover up the guest with a blanket and told the port of entry guy he was sleeping. I am not sure if they ever caught him . You could check with the sheriff for this area to confirm this. Janie's was a brothel. I meet several of the women as they would stop at Coaldale for fuel and I worked on several of their cars. Gas, Thermostats, flat tire and such. They even offered me a job there however my wife said no. If you have any questions feel free to ask I even know of a few secluded ghost towns by Dryer. Been a long time ago. One ghost town is filled with houses and a mine with tailing and very spooky.

Lived and worked here. I could tell you stories.... Mongomery Pass Soper's Casino. The first cabin you stopped in was occupied by the latest General Manager. Can't remember his name. I lived in one of those cabins down towards the end..... The one you climbed into was Jane's. She was the controller at the time. I remodeled that place and put the kitchen window and the main counter and cabinet in there. That big white shop, used to be a gas station. That was where my office was located. It was a casino/restaurant/bar. With a motel. The place across the street had been closed for years when I got there. There was a murder there. Gay lover thing. The guy used a hatchet... Mrs Soper used to live in that big main cabin house with the big fire place. Larry Shmidt, the manager also lived there. The Pitt Boss lived in the last one. Can't remember his name.

This was pretty amazing to see this place like this when the last time I saw it I was a customer, (mark), of the casino. My dad lived in Tonopah and once a month went to Bishop. I never knew this place went down.

Very cool! There's a TON of old ghost towns from AZ to MT, going from VA to MT, we went though death valley, and it was hotter than hell, but beautiful land. Also, a lot of abandoned mines near the old towns, but....I wouldn't go in an old mine lol I have a few vids laying around somewhere of the few ghost towns I've explored, one being Tampico, Montana, my grandfather grew up there, so it was really cool to see.

Great tour of Montgromery Pass. Was close by in Beatty where I found seriously interesting stories. Miss Hussy's the best. Holy Moley, detritus, Flotsam and jetsam. Junk everywhere.

The place is was the Montgomery Pass Lodge and Casino, but it’s also called Soper’s Café.
I worked in Sopers Casino in the 80's as a dealer, bartender, and keno writer. The cabins were an old motel from bishop, ca that they moved up there for the employees. They were real "shacks". A man named Lucky Larryu was the casino mgr and he was a real character. I was thewrew about 2 months then went back home to Sparks, Nv lol'
Just enjoyed yur tour of Ceasars, then MGM and now, wre in the desert....together lol! lets see where this brings us......

Interesting...strange that such a large motel was built there..sure seems like it was much busier in the past. Just like old Rt.66-once the traffic is gone, towns die.
