The fact that she has grown to the point of knowing that she doesn't want just a marriage but a happy loving marriage and that she deserves no less is amazing and wonderful to hear, she final knew her self worth, even if it was putting her dream on hold.
She always knew that. In the first season she dumped a millionaire because he would spoil her but wouldn’t talk to her or treated her like an accessory. She wanted someone that valued her opinion and cared about what she thought. Personally I liked how she always had some kind of standard even when they went overboard with the “over 30 and desperate” trope
She grew a lot and knew what she wanted.
"I don't want a proposal from a man out of guilt. Oh God, twelve generations of Fine women just rolled over."

@Luis Collado my father and gradfather were Jewish. My Uncle IS jewish. 🤷♀️ they were from Long Island and The Bronx. They loved this show. Thought it was hysterical. It’s obviously a major exaggeration but a hint if truth. My mother’s family was from Queens.

The scene between Fran and Niles is so touching, you can see how much she grew up. What a show!
I know, right? It was the biggest blessing of the entire episode. I get that she had been trying to get Maxwell to propose for years, but the last thing she needed was to prove her desperation. She did love him and wanted to marry him, but not at the cost of her dignity and self respect.

The line where Maxwell says “I’m not sure I really wanted to” show more than just I think she’s pretty. He really is in love with her because of the way he nervously says marry me. Terrific cast I love them all.
I was half-hoping Niles would run over an tell Fran right after that conversation. 😆
She got her heart broken so many times and yet she is ever the cheerful Miss Fine. I wish I could meet someone like her.
I wish I could BE like her. Her optimism is so lovely; I want to be like that.
He did almost lose her to his brother
It's only four minutes but it's still so much better than full seasons of any show these days. The Nanny is a classic that never fails!!!
The show actually had good jokes, not just characters being quirky followed by a laugh track

I loved how Niles kissed Fran on the head there. So sweet. I always loved their friendship. And loved how Fran finally noticed how she doesn't want max as much as she loves him she didn't want him to propose to her our of guilt. Such a sweet scene.
I wish there could have been more scenes with Fran and Niles where we see how close they’ve gotten. But as the show progressed, it became more about Fran and Max, with everyone else having supporting roles.
Niles is a good friend to Fran.
Niles and fran are the best of friends, he was always there for her, he is such a sweetie
It was funny when Fran does accept Maxwell’s proposal, after he gets mugged and assaulted, since he says the ring is gone and she says, “I’ll kill em”

3:33 - The moment where Maxwell started to understand Fran's sadness and confusion during the Thing IMO. She responds the way he wanted her to in the beginning when he took back what he said (basically forget about it and move on). I don't think he understood the gravity of the request until that moment.
Part of me also wonders if after this Maxwell really thinks Fran is going to be okay. Niles knows she's hurt, but will put on a brave face. But now, there's more to it. All those years of false hope and trying only to be let down each time. (Maxwell proposing only to spite his mother, kissing her out of joy when she gives a stellar review of one of his shows, the billboard Valentine, always being around after bad dates or when her other relationships don't work, etc) Once she let him go of the responsibility of his actions, I think it was the beginning of him realizing how much he expected of Fran emotionally.
I can't get over the dialogue at 0:08:
Niles: What's that?
Maxwell: Soup
Niles: For whom?
Maxwell: Ms. Fine
Niles: Where'd you get it?
Maxwell: I made it.
Niles: You blabbed didn't you?
I love the speed of that conversation. Ha Ha Ha
I replayed it like 5X because it was so smooth and effortless
The comic timing is so good!
This show has fantastic comedic timing!
Niles knows him better than he knows himself
As much as I *love* the jokes in the show, I think this might be my favorite scene in the series. After years of just wanting to meet the social standard of marriage, she finally realizes there’s much more to it than operating on a deadline and found her self worth.
Beyond the scene, I think my favorite moment is after she gives the fake laugh, she and Max exchange that glance and… oh man… it’s a wonderful piece of acting.
As much as the comedy carried the show, I think moments like this elevated it. It allowed the series to be much more than the average sitcom. Such a great show! 💕
Men operate on social pressure. Women operate on biological clocks. Which makes it even more impressive that Fran turned him down.
Oh this Max's apologies😁 I love the one when he wanted to buy her a car and asks Maggie for advice which car miss Fine would love to drive. Maggie's answer "husband's" was hillarious😂😂

Fran had some crazy character development throughout the series. Had this happened like 1 or 2 seasons earlier she probably would’ve went ahead and married him

Any one else kinda heart broken when Maxwell said “what?” After Fine said “ I didn’t take that seriously I just wanted to see you sweat”
You could almost hear the hurt and confusion from him even if it was just to make her happy for something that he blabbed about
I’m thinking that before that exchange, Max momentarily talked himself into proposing to Fran on the spot and accepting being engaged to Fran so soon. So after talking himself into it, he might’ve been a little hurt that the moment ended so soon.
Best part of these scene? Both Fran and Maxwell think he proposed, not because he wanted to, but because of guilt and by the end of it, part of Maxwell knows he was wrong.

This scene after she told Maxwell,"No" made me want to cry. Fran and Maxwell were made for each other.
Maxwell realized he didn’t WANT to be let off the hook.
I wish I had someone like Fran in my life, a sister, an aunt, a friend or whatever, just someone that loving and pure in the heart
This scene proves just how much Fran and Maxwell truly love each other.
Okay yes Fran has major character development but she showed pretty early that all the marriage jokes were jokes cause Danny proposed at the end of season 1 and she eventually turned him down too. But it’s beautiful to see not only does she want Max and the kids and this life but she also wants him to be serious about what the commitment of marriage is
Fran refused two proposals from max. Both of them for being outta spite and guilt. Imagine if it was CC.

There were proposals made but they still call each other, Ms. Fine and Mr. Sheffield.... talk about a respectful relationship...love and miss them
What's funny is in the first season in an episode where she pretended to be married to Mr. Sheffield (though Niles played the part), she even joked that calling him that even when married was kinda like pet name.

I think for Mr. Sheffield it was 2x15 Kindervelt Days when he shows up at her camp reunion and rescues her from embarrassment by pretending to be her man and they dance for the first time!
