- LITHIUM BATTERIES FOR YOUR BOAT! It's time to upgrade my Pelican Bass Raider 10e tiny bass boat. I've been using size 29 lead acid batteries which weigh almost 100lbs each. Total weight capacity of this boat is 600 lbs so this upgrade will allow me to shed a significant amount of weight out of this boat. Besides that lithium batteries lasty longer and can be charged over 1000 times. I coupled this battery with an Newport Vessels smart battery box. This box has all the bells and whistles to make this upgrade even better. Watch as I run this battery hard for over 9 hours on the Pelican Bass Raider. Watch and see how it performs.

One of absolute best channels for Bass Raider mods and upgrades!!
Update: this battery box is not rated for lithium batteries which is why it showed 4 bars the whole time in this video. I still love this box and use it. Amped Outdoors has now added a blue tooth feature to their batteries that shows you exactly what the battery life is reading.
I prefer to have a volt readout, because unlike lead acid batteries when the voltage begins to drop on a lithium battery you know it will soon stop working (the internal electronics do this to protect the battery). They go from all to nothing fast! And then you better have a paddle. All that said the weight savings are great and they give you full power right up to the point they shut down.
Great video, thanks for the info, very helpful.
Cool vid. Thanks.
Perfect boat for that beautiful lake!
Thanks.
Impressive! Thanks for this information 👍
🤙🏾👍🏾
good info thanks
Great video amigo. keep um coming I jst bought a bass raider and am working on my trailet lights and mods for the boat.
thanks agian amigo!
👊🏾🤙🏾👍🏾
The smart battery box is great. It’s also great to see the PBR10E make an appearance on the channel. The lith batteries seem legit. Great video as always. Tight Lines!!!
🤙🏾👍🏾
Sir, I bought the battery box un-sight and un-seen baised on your review. I will post my findings when I receive the product. You have amazing videos, and super helpful. Keep up the good work, and I'll keep buying products you recommend.
Thank you sir.
Thanks Ody. Appreciate the feedback and support. That box is working out great for me so far.
Excellent choice of mods I'm really starting to miss my bass raider
Thanks. It's an awesome little boat.
Really enjoy your videos. I've taken some of your suggestions with my pelican bass raider. These little boats are great for people on a budget. Been looking into a lithium battery because of the weight and size. Thanks for the content and honest feedback.
You're welcome 🤙🏾👊🏾
I've been hoping you were going to make a video like this. I'm wanting to migrate to a lithium battery setup for my Bass Raider. Appreciate all your feedback and content....thanks!
Awesome man. 👍🏾
good vid, thank you.................
Hey guys, really love your channel! I just bought a PBRE10E and working on a few mods. Just used your link and bought one of the AMPED batteries. I've got the Minn Kota Endura Max 55 lb thrust trolling motor, too. Bought upgraded seats from Bass Pro. Getting ready to work on the floor next. Can't wait to get out on the waters here in Southern Illinois! Keep up the good work and tight lines!
Thanks. That's awesome. Congrats on your new boat. I truly understand your excitement. It's a great little boat. Enjoy.
Have a Pelican and want to upgrade everything. It's my first and none of my (loser) friends fish, so I'm left to the "tube" for visual assurance to how something really performs. Love your vids, Colorado will save you a spot on the lake.
Keep 'em coming
Lol Thanks Joseph. Will do 👍🏾
Looking for a new battery for my bass raider, great info thanks!
👍🏾
I have been looking at battery boxes was going to get the one at NAPA but this one is on sale just ordered it love the video had the bass raider for almost a year haven’t put in the water yet but will soon 🎣 💪🏿❤️
Awesome man. Yea I saw that it's on sale so you got it for $10 less than I did lol.
Push-to-Test Battery meters are included on select Minn Kota Motor Models. The charge levels assume good Lead-Acid Batteries, either AGM or Flooded Lead-Acid Construction. The measurements are not valid for Lithium, LiFePo4 or Gel Cell battery types. I also understand that LiFePo4 batteries need special battery chargers. I bought a LiFePo4 battery and special charger because of the weight difference. I also got a battery tester designed for LiFePo4 batteries. LiFePo4 batteries are also safer than regular Lithium batteries.
You mentioned about the problem you had with the floorboards moving during towing. I have been thinking about "splicing" them together between one of the ribs on the floorboards.
Great vid, but I think you should be cautious of the four bars on the battery. Lithium batteries don't discharge like a lead acid. Lead acid slowly drain like 75%, 50% etc, which is what your volt indicator represents. However Lithium don't drain that way, they drain but the range is from 13.6 to 12.5 so your box with just four bars thinks its a full charge but only a digital meter will show you that is not the case. When a Lithium is discharged it just stops usually around 12.3 or so volts. What is really cool when running a motor on a Lithium battery the voltage will not decrease (while the motor is running) like on a lead acid battery.
Nice lithium upgrade! Now you can bring more weight on the Raider, like a case of Twin Snakes!🤣
Lol right
Thats crazy, my buddy just let me borrow a 120 AH battery last weekend and it didnt last no 9 hours...not lithium but man that might be worth the change then. Ah just checked why its lasting longer lol, battery is almost 600$. Battery better last damn 9 hours after that lol. Great video man, ever since i got my 10E i watch your videos.
Yea Lithium is more expensive than lead acid batteries but boy do they pack a punch.
Thanks for the info. Can I also use a 60ah for same set up ?? And what is the biggest difference ?
I'm using an Amped Outdoors tiny 20ah LiFePo4 to power my Garmin EchoMap 93sv SideScan Sonor w/LiveScope to search & recover Victims, Vehicles, & Vessels of missing persons. Looking at a Pelican BassRaider for small retention ponds Sonar scans. I'll definitely get an Amped Outdoors main battery for my trolling motor to power my new search rig.
Lol. Awesome batteries. Kindly use our affiliate link in the video description. It'll definitely help out the channel. Good luck finding bodies 😜
Hey bass brothers would like to know what kind of trolling motor are you running with that lithium battery and how many amps does it pull.
Love your videos dude! Is your charger specifically for lithium batteries?
Thanks. Yes the charger is for lithium.
With the Newport power box, did you have to keep the 50-amp trolling motor circuit breaker that came with the 10E, or did the Newport box come with it? Thanks in advance. Really enjoy your videos.
Hey. I am not using the trolling motor wiring that came with the boat. Instead, I am using the circuit breaker that came with the Newport box. Thanks for watching.
Does NV fit ampere time 100ah ?
what's the thrust on your trolling motor. Keep up the good work
55lb
Can you give me a link to the fish finder mount you have on the trolling motor?
I did a full video on this mount. I also have all the links in the description of the video. Here's the link czcams.com/video/CJT_kmMG6jQ/video.htmlsi=nqu62-pQJwn3HoLE
My vessels smart battery box died on me i had to paddle back in i am lacking confidence in the box now it doesn't light up any more was told go the shunt and breaker route in a regular box. The box lasted 6 hours. Gotta get this in order i am ready to go out again. The box is not made for lithium batts. You want to go straight from the motor to the battery.
Have you considered a solar charger for the boat battery. I know they are popular with RVers.
I plan to look into it. Aa long as it's small enough to fit the boat and provide the proper charge, sounds like a good idea
Great video. I have the Minn Kota box and run a lithium battery as well. I've noticed that even after two 8 hours days it will still read fully charged. I have seen comments that the meter on these battery boxes do not give accurate readings on lithium batteries. Are there special battery meters that are needed in addition to a charger that does lithium as well? Thx
Not sure. I heard the same thing. That's why I did the comparison but maybe both the motor and box reads Lithium high.
I added a separate monitor to read the % of my lithium battery because my Minn Kota box never changed from 4 bars.
@@stevenadair4843 I see. I'll keep an eye on that. Thanks for sharing.
They make a Bluetooth shunt that will give accurate readings. I went with a Ionic 120ah, same size but has Bluetooth and an app. You can have multiple Ionic batteries monitored on 1 app.
Hey bud, why didn’t you go with a 24 V battery for the trolling motor on the John boat? Is it a 12V motor?
BUD!
Narcissist?
Where you powering your garmim as well?
I've used the same battery box for my garmin as well but I typically have a separate small battery for that
I pulled 100 fish out in one day with my bass raider. It is the juice 🧃 . Love the content I just went ahead and subbed
Thanks man welcome to our channel. Long live the bass raider. 😜
What is the model number on your amped outdoors charger?
Model #UY360. If you make a purchase, please use our affiliate link to help us out. Much appreciated. ampedoutdoors.com/?aff=7.
What does "DMV" mean? If this was California, it would be the Department of Motor Vehicles!
Lol it means. DC, Maryland and Virginia. We live in a try state area.
The battery indicator doesn't work with lithium batteries.
How many hours test is that battery and how much
80ah. $599. Check em out.
ampedoutdoors.com/?aff=7
How are you liking your bass raider?
Love it. One of my best purchases ever.
can you run these boxes in parallel?
This is what I found on this on Amazon Q & A
Can I place 2 smaller 12V batteries inside and connect them in parallel? - Yes! This keeps the output at 12V and is compatible with the Smart Battery Box.
Can I place 2 smaller 12V batteries inside the Smart Battery Box and connect them in series? - No! This creates 24V and can damage the Smart Battery Box.
Can I have 2 Smart Battery Boxes connected in series to power my 24V device? - Yes!
Which battery did you get? (Spec)
80ah.
I want be getting that battery 🔋 a little to expensive for me
I hear you. 👍🏾🤙🏾👊🏾
HEADS UP: I spoke with Newport Vessels tech support today, they stated that the meters on the box AND the ones built into existing trolling motors are designed to work on SLA (sealed lead acid) batteries only. They stated that a stand alone meter designed to work with LiFePo4 batteries is about$15. There are also Bluetooth enabled versions. The reason the meter shows full is that Lithium batteries go 100% at a higher voltage than SLA batteries until they drop off to zero. There's no warning, the battery won't slow, it will simply stop running. You might have been near the end of your charge and not known it. All that said, I'd still rather trust your all day run test than a meter, but I will get a meter made for LiFePo4 batteries so I don't end up stuck across the pond. Another heads up, I ordered the Newport Vessels trolling motor because it's both Saltwater & Freshwater rated at the same price of a Freshwater- only MinmKota or Motorguide. (55Lbs $195-$265). They offer a new matte tan camo finish 55Lbs, has a tilt head, telescopic handle, & the head is reversible if you want to bow Mount it but have the controls facing aft. Cheers.
Awesome information. Thanks for sharing
