    One of the most important things that you missed was quality of build. In Fl we are saltwater and hardware internal/external is very important. Dakota and Amp Outdoors cells and internal components are made for saltwater. SS, aluminum... cells are also incased in metal fastened to a metal frame at the base of each. These are batteries that need to be capable of bumping and bouncing continually while in use. Amped Outdoors is a 3yr warranty and they are blootooth. Also number of cells internal and quality of same is another factor not discussed, may be that you are now just now learning about batteries yourself. Both companies mentioned may not have responded to yr email but do answer phone calls. lol kind of a nice video but missing a lot of important info.

    Looking to replace my electronics Lead Acid battery with Lithium Ion, but concerned with charging. My current method only relies upon my engine's alternator, since I use my boat nearly everyday. Will this work if I only replace my electronics (house) battery with Lithium Ion or should I install some other equipment? My vessel also has an "Emergency Parallel" switch to ensure that the engine will crank, even if the primary cranking battery dies for some reason. My vessel has 4 batteries and I have been changing to AGM as these lead acid batteries fail over time, but would like to lower the weight if Lithium Ion batteries will work as direct replacements.

      Your comment was from 3 months ago....but no, don't charge regular lifepo4 batteries off your alternator. I think Dakota and Ionic are making some dual purpose batteries meant for cranking and deep cycle, which you can hook up to your outboard. But they are way more expensive, and I'm not positive if the BMS allows the outboard to charge or if you have to plug in when you get home. You can email them to find out. That being said, don't use the cheapos...you can't connect them to your alternator.

    Hello,
    You are the first person I found on CZcams that talked about Low Temp Protection in Lithium Batteries. However, in Northern US and Canada there are times where you may need or want to change below 32 degrees F. Having protection to protect your battery is a good thing. However, how about if you want to change the battery at or below the protection setting? There are a couple companies that sell Lithium batteries with a warming blanket. If the BMS notes that the battery is below the required temp. for charging than the warming blanket warm the battery and then charges it. I just purchased 4- 100Ah batteries with warming blankets as well as a Lithium 4 bank charger. My batteries warranty falls within the 10 years. But what was important to me was the ability to charge the batteries when it is cold and having the Bluetooth capabilities. Just make sure you know your needs before you buy a Lithium battery. Just to let you know, one of the companies you listed told me “To plug the batteries in as soon as your get home”. Well, with my drive time the batteries would have cooled down to a point where they wouldn’t have charged.

    • @goodmanfishing
      @goodmanfishing  Před 9 měsíci +1

      These are not intended to be cranking batteries, mostly due to the BMS being rated to 100A.
      There are some dual purpose starting lithiums out there that will work for some.
      For the most part the batteries discussed in this video are going to be used for electronics or trolling motor applications. 👍

    Hey buddy! Great video as I am purchasing my first 100aH lithium battery. I'm getting some conflicting info regarding charging. My battery manufacturer says their 12V 100Ah battery can be completely charged with a standard lead-acid charger that achieves 14.4-14.6 volts. I have one of these and am hoping I can use the 10a setting (it offers 2a/10a/30a charge rates) yet others have said a lithium is different and I should only use a charger designed for lithium. Thoughts?

    • @goodmanfishing
      @goodmanfishing  Před rokem +3

      Hello there - Couple of things to unpack here. I personally would only use a lithium-rated charger.
      Lead-acid chargers typically slowly ramp up current to lead the battery absorb the charge. A lithium does not need this, the BMS will manage current to each cell and you want it to do it's job balancing.
      It is likely that your charger will put out 14.4-14.6v, which is fine for a lithium battery. However! You do not want any type of desulfating function to be pushed to your lithium battery, that is a typical lead-acid charger feature.
      If you do completely drain your lithium battery, the BMS will cut off the cells. You need to "wake up" the BMS by applying 12v to the battery. A lead acid charger will not do that, it will not push power until it sees there is a battery hooked up. That may cause an issue.
      Charge Rate: You do want to charge a LiFePo4 at around 0.2C, if possible. So if you have a 100Ah battery, 100Ah x 0.2C = 20A charge rate.

    • @wstewart5532
      @wstewart5532 Před rokem

      @@goodmanfishing Hmmm, I discussed chargers with both the retailer and the manufacturer. Don't want to get into brand wars but mine is one of the higher end brands. It was the manufacturer who said my 2/10/30 smartcharger would be fine if used in the AGM setting. And the retailer said I would be fine with the 4a same-brand charger he gave me for free, but offered a 10a version which was over $125 so I decided to make do with the slower 4a charger. I'm thinking a 20a charger is going to be significantly more.

    • @jasonbroom7147
      @jasonbroom7147 Před rokem

      @@wstewart5532 - You can use a 14.4v charger meant for AGM, but realize that the charging profiles are very different. You won't charge as fast as you could otherwise, if you're not using a charger for LiFePO4. Also, you will not want to leave your batteries connected and "float" charging, the way you would with any lead-acid chemistry. Just bite the bullet and buy a charger that will help protect the $$ you put into the new battery.

    Watch out some battery makers send out batteries to youtubers for reviews
    Especially reviewers that take batteries apart
    They send out perfectly built batteries that give out more power than rated
    A year later they put in cheaper cells and batteries are not made as well and have failures so be skeptical of reviews
    Also I think battleborn and victron pay reviewers to look at the batteries especially in rv space
    They may be good products but sometimes they are 3 times the price of other makers,also victron inverter is bad design they have push in connectors for ac
    As why does not sit in well and overheats and burns out $1500 inverter
    I saw an expert using a pliers to get wire in he puts in at least 50 a year you damage the wire
    You strip wire 7/8 to copper .you get small screw driver in small hole push in you strip 8 inches of outer sleeve inside to cable clamp in case you want to redo it. Then each wire you pull on to see its not loose victron should go back to screw connectors in multiplex inverters

      I've seen their trolling motor version with low temp cutoff but I have not seen a Bluetooth battery from LiTime. Do you have a link?

    Personally, i hate automatic, bluetooth or smart crap.
    I like controlling everything myself.

    Here a better way, get a Honda 3 hp outboard motor. And yes it powerful and can move a full size fishing boat as long as you aren’t a speedster's. They used it even on house boat.
    And over 100 miles gallon. It a cheat, but not perfect. Hand carry . Push the arm forward or reverse. Cute thing. And it a Honda last forever

    It is you as the consumer to know what you have. If you charge it in freezing temperatures, you're stupid. That's no different driving your car into the water.

      I noticed some info was incorrect given today's date in that some of the battery makers have multiple models, some of which now have charge protection for freezing temperatures. Appreciated the content, it was probably correct at time of making.

    So you went with the weizeus because you trust it I was going to pull the trigger on amped 48ah battery for mine 106sv and LS black box, I’m more confused about what to buy now more than ever, I’ve all was been told you get what you pay for,

      There's another video about my process with Weize on sending my battery back under warranty. They took care of it well. The lower cost batteries certainly have a place, but I would suggest setting up a basic capacity test and check it annually within the warranty period.

      @@goodmanfishing yeah the weize battery I saw which is the 50 ah is 159.00 and the amped one is 350 but the amped comes with a 10 ah charger, is weize a mix of quality and good price is that why you went with them
