The song itself was written for his son Connor who died tragically at 4 years old, and yes it was used in a movie(Rush with Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Patrick, great movie) which was the footage seen in the video. This particular song is soft and acoustic but he is mainly considered one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time, most ranking him in the top 5 all time. He is the only artist to be inducted into the Roll and Roll Hall Of Fame 3 times, as a member of rock bands Cream, The Yardbirds and as a solo artist. To hear a different side than this acoustic softer sound I love his performance of Layla here, czcams.com/video/fX5USg8_1gA/video.html

Tears in Heaven" is a ballad written by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings about the pain Clapton felt following the death of his four-year-old son, Conor, who fell from a window of the 53rd-floor New York apartment of his mother's friend, on March 20, 1991. A song that will touch the very depths of all who listen to it.🙏

Eric Clapton is one of the greatest guitar players ever. He was part of bands like Yardbirds, Cream, Derek and the Dominoes and Blind Faith. he also had a successful solo career. This song was used for the movie Rush (which I haven't seen) but the song itself was written by Clapton for a much sadder reason. In 1991 his young son fell out of a window of a skyscraper to his death. This song is Clapton dealing with this enormous tragedy. If you want to listen to more of his work I can suggest: Cream - White Room, Cream - Sunshine of your love, Derek and the Dominoes - Layla and solo songs like "Wonderful tonight", a cover of the song "Cocaine" to name a few.
Clapton was highly influenced after he met Hendrix for the first time and Hendrix was a big inspiration for him. Clapton also did a MTV - unplugged session in 1992 which was very popular back then and is an awesome album.

I am fairly new to your channel. Eric is an Icon. He is in the hall of rock and roll three times. More than anyone else!! He is in there for the Yardbirds, for the trio of Cream, and as a solo artist. Many rate him in the TOP of rock guitarists. I would agree with that statement!!! Young lady have you investigated the motive of this song? It was written by Eric after his four year old son fell to his death out of an open window. DAMN!!! Sad? This is a ball buster!!!!! Take care and have a great 2024!!!!

There's a few things to cover here, but I'm sure others are already telling you about most of it. First, this song is a bit different for him, but Eric Clapton is considered one of the greatest guitar players in rock n roll history, and had been a part of the early British blues based rock scene in the 60s as a member of a handful of bands, mainly Cream, as well as a decades long solo career.
The significant thing about this song that I'm sure everyone is telling you, is that he wrote this song about the tragic death of his 4 year old son. If you want the details, there's a good video explaining it here on CZcams. Just look up "Conor Clapton".
This is the part that I seem to be the only one that remembers, but yes! This song was written for the soundtrack of a movie in the 90s called "Rush". It was a smaller indie movie that was very good, but also a very emotional movie, that if I'm being honest, isn't an easy watch. Basically the story is about two cops from different law enforcement agencies that don't know each other, but are being paired together to go undercover as a couple. Jason Patric plays the experienced, hardened cop, and Jennifer Jason Leigh is the new inexperienced rookie, and eventually they develop a genuine relationship and fall in love, but due to the questionable life they live while undercover, when the job is over, they are both struggling with alcohol and drug addiction, and independently and together they have to claw themselves out of addiction. So, a very heavy topic and movie.

  • @VinE83656
    @VinE83656 Před 11 měsíci

As others have said the song was written about his son. The movie is Rush and it was about two undercover police officers investigating drug dealers. They got caught up in their undercover roles and it was a sad movie. Also, in the movie was Greg Allman who was also a rock star from the Allman Brothers. Greg's brother Duane, also a musician played with Eric on his Derek and the Dominos album. Both Allman Brothers have since passed away but Eric is still with us.

Eric Clapton has had a very long career. He is perhaps best known as one of the three members of the first true rock supergroup, Cream. Eric is far more known for his guitar playing, which is very blues based, no matter what part of his career you examine. Eric is sometimes referred to as "Slowhand," because he is known as a guitarist that plays fewer notes but with greater feeling than many of his contemporaries. His singing is similar, in that he doesn't have an incredible range or tons of power, but he sings with a great deal of feeling.
This song was written by Eric very late in his career (which continues to this day). Since many others have already commented on the meaning behind the song itself, I'll leave that alone.
I would HIGHLY recommend that you check out more of Eric's work, from all across his career.
    God bless!!

My dad still cannot listen to this tune. He knew what happened to little Connor, and I was five at the time this tune came out.
Clapton blamed himself for what happened, and Dad never wanted to know what that felt like.
In a way, Clapton made his point so succinct in the only time my Dad fully listened to this song, that he changed his life to simply live for his son.
"We live for the future, and so we must live for our children."

His voice perfectly presents his feeling of vulnerability. Someone (in this case his son) has passed and he doesn't know if he is worthy of seeing them again in Heaven. He is looking for reassurance that the one he has lost will remember and accept him, even if he doesn't really belong in Heaven.

For 40+ I've been putting up with people "watching" a song instead of listening to it. The first thing she did rather than carefully listen to the song, is stop to comment about these people in the video. shut the screen off and just listen to the music. She was mislead in the wrong direction by the movie clops. Clapton is grieving for his little son and video is distracting from the real message of the song. The song has nothing to do to with the movie in it's true meaning. To reduce this superior song to a "Soundtrack of a movie" is sad enough without even listening to the song. The look on Eric Clapton's face at the end was devastating and heartbreaking. Just like my face when I lost my younger brother.

I have some suggestions if you want to grow this channel:
    1. Participate in the comments. You should acknowledge here that you're at least reading these comments, if you want someone like me (and others) to subscribe. If you don't read the comments, then what's the point of commenting on your videos, or subscribing? I watched your reaction to Heart's "Crazy on You". Same thing, you did not react to any comments.
    2. Do some research on a song/group before reacting. Know who the artist is, his/her accomplishments, and what the song is about. There's nothing I hate more than watching a reaction video by someone who has no clue who the artist is or why the song was written. I was yelling at the TV the whole video that IT'S NOT ABOUT A MOVIE!!!
Eric wrote this song during a time when he was in serious pain after his 4 yr-old child died by falling out of a window. The song is written to his son, in heaven.
