Word of advice on the whole growl vocals and lyrics. While the lyrics have their importance in the music, it is generally not the basis for metal music unlike other forms of music. Treat the vocals as if its another instrument, knowing the lyrics will come later if you decide to look into it. If the music doesn't catch you, then the lyrics wont matter.

It's pronounced as the letters - R - E - M. I always recommend one specific song for REM reactions, and it's "Everybody Hurts". It's a very powerful, very intense song and video, but it's also ultimately uplifting. I've chatted with several reactors who had difficulty with this song because of the emotional content. Counting Crows is a really good band overall and they have a several really good songs I could listen to on repeat. The lead singer really makes you feel the emotion of the song. Personally my favorite is Possibility days mainly for two lines. "We carry the burdens of all of days" and "The best part about a bad day is knowing that it's okay."

It refers to famous people who died from a drug overdose in the media vilifies them it makes it seem like it's something they deserved when they overdose on drugs

They were basically a supergroup, all 4 wrote multiple massive hits, all 4 played multiple instruments and only John Deacon didn't sing lead vocals. But he was an all time great Bassist, played rhythm and lead guitar, double bass, piano, electric piano and keyboards. And you could easily release a greatest hits album of songs he wrote or co wrote. And he was the quiet member of the group.
