About "Chop Suey!": there's a lot going on in this song, both musically and lyrically. It touches on drug addiction, but doesn't have the somber tone that many songs about addiction have. The song can also be interpreted to be about how society views death or about Christ. Guitarist Daron Malakian, who wrote it with lead singer Serj Tankian, explained: "The song is about how when people die, they will be regarded differently depending on the way they pass. Like, if I were to die from a drug overdose, everyone would say I deserved it because I abused drugs, hence the line 'Angels deserve to die.'"Chop Suey "is a Chinese stew made with meat or fish, plus bamboo sprouts, onions, rice and water chestnuts. They used it for the name of the song because it describes their musical style, with lots of stuff thrown together. The title is not in the lyrics. The original name of the song was "Suicide," but Columbia Records made them change it to make it radio friendly. In the beginning of the song, you hear lead singer Serj Tankian say "we're rolling suicide." The title is a bit of a play on words - "Suey-cide." We have Papa Roach to thank for clearing a path on MTV for cathartic songs that reference suicide. Their "Last Resort" video, also directed by Marcos Siega, hit the network in 2000 and was highly censored, with not only the word "suicide" edited out, but also related references like "bleeding" and "took my life tonight." By the time System released the "Chop Suey" video, which aired unedited, it was clear that young people were finding connection and meaning in these songs, and were in no danger of attempting suicide simply by hearing the word. Jesus said, "I commend my spirit" in Luke 23:46, which is most likely where that part of the song came from. The line "Why have you forsaken me, in your eyes forsaken me?" is likely referring to Isaiah 49:14, which says "The Lord has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me." "Chop Suey" was climbing the charts when it was silenced by the events of September 11, 2001. Just about every radio station pulled it from their playlists in an effort to be as sensitive as possible after the tragedy. Even though the song had nothing to do with terrorism, it was considered far too aggressive. The line "I cry when angels deserve to die" was a little too heavy for most program directors and listeners at that moment. When things settled down, the song returned to the airwaves pretty much where it left off, since there weren't many songs released in the weeks after 9/11. The lyrics have many possible interpretations and permutations, but one guy who has never paid attention to them is the band's drummer, John Dolmayan, who said: "Most of the time when I listen to music, I listen to the melody and the way the lyrics syncopate within the song, but not necessarily the lyrics. I'd say the closest lyrics I pay attention to are Rush lyrics - those are more like stories."
"Chop Suey" is a name they came up with after they wasn't allowed to use "Suic*de" as the name. But if you listen to the Spotify version you can hear (as the song starts) "Rolling Suic*de". To me the "Angels" is a metaphor for the those that take their own life. And them saying "I cry when Angels deserve to die", they are basically saying that we should trust those who took their life, and not create a story for them (which is normal in the US). Don't ask why they did it, trust that they made the self-righteous choice. At least that is how I see the song. Awesome reaction, keep rocking ❤🤙
Also. Chop suey makes reference to "buy fast food for home" like in the drive thru. U buy the chop suey. In reference to the... Drgs. He's talking literally about the people that, in consequence of their poor conditions of life, go to drgs and finally end up his own life by sciding.
"I cry when angels deserve to die" I guess we can understand like with all this wars going on many kids die, kids are like angels, some people try to justify wars, like how babies deserved to die. We all should cry when angels deserve to die.

System of a Down is my favorite band and one of the best of all time. Serj and Daron's undeniably perfect and well-matched voices, unforgettable riffs and lyrics always touching on very important themes for society. They are what we can truly call artists. "B.Y.O.B." (Grammy-winning song) and "Lonely Day" could be next.
Have you heard of fallen angels like the devil for instance. Angels can fall from grace, hence I cry when angels deserve to die out of context of the songs can simply mean that a pure person goes dark and it is sad when you think about it.
effing vibed with it a super lot. top tier energy. how come I’m finding ttheym out for tthey first time? 🔥🔥🔥I now think you'll love October Ends' new song 🔥 Do a reaction video for it!
The original title was Suicide but the label company wanted a more radio friendly title and the band literally chopped the world sui-cide thus the title Chop Suey
Its not hard to know when it's not the first time of someone watching a content (or at least there was a previous research). I prefer those genuine first time reacts.
Hello inna, I like your reactions👍🏻 and obviously system of a down is one of my favorite bands, 🎤🎶🔥react more to another favorite band of mine, react to Slipknot,🎤🎶🔥 greetings from South America, Peru 🇵🇪Latinos see you pretty cuidate 😘😈✌🏻
System of a Down has always been schizophrenic w/ their lyrics... For example, their song 'Bounce': "Unannounced Twister games... All players with no names... They lined up double quick But just one Pogo Stick Everyone gets to play... Runaway, expose... It was so exotic But just one Pogo Stick"
It refers to famous people who died from a drug overdose in the media vilifies them it makes it seem like it's something they deserved when they overdose on drugs
Fun fact is all of their video song that they put on their channel they are tiny amount what they have that does not have any video on it. So you should check out their 1st song sweet pea. In audio because they don't havd video on it.
This is just one interpretation, just an observation, nothing more, not fact, but for years, angels deserve to die translated to me as the innocent being in the wrong place at the right time, sort of thing. Great reaction and video! Love it!
I've been listening to this song since it came out and I still have no idea what those lines mean. Great song but the lyrics don't really affect me one way or another.
Wake up grab a little brush to put on some make-up hide the scars to fade away the shake up. The beginning of the song to me is that someone has been abused, beaten, and is trying to hide the scars of the fight. Being stuck in an abusive relationship, and then you'd rather take your own life than to keep faking that everything is ok. The end is asking god for forgiveness for wanting to get out of the life you're trapped in by taking your own life. At least that's how I interpret it, the beiginning lyrics are so fast that you don't really have time to process them
Inna, you have to know the band Deftones. It's impossible to place it in a musical genre. It's a phenomenal mix of heavy metal, melodic and uniquely experimental. Chino's particular voice along with catchy riffs and lyrics that make us travel to another dimension make this group incomparable. "Digital Bath", "Minerva", "Sextape", "Be Quiet and Drive", "Rosemary", "Change" and so many other masterpieces that you will certainly love. Its addicting!
