One of the greatest. As you can see from previous performances: Meat Loaf was always overwhelming, as he was here, with a broken voice but great charisma. Wonderful reaction.

Meat Loaf was the GOAT
My brother Larry died when I was 15. This song is from his favorite album, which I flat out stole like younger brothers tend to do. I listened to it a lot after he passed away in a crosscountry car accident. I named my son Larry Dean Miller in honor of him.
Your next Meatloaf song has to be Paradise By the Dashboard Light, off the same album. But anything on the Bat Out of Hell album is awesome. I put it on and just let it play.
Happy you enjoyed this as this was hard for me to listen to as a mere shadow of the original studio version. He did the best he could. It's the experience that counts in this performance. Do have a listen to the original to hear how great they truly were at their inception.
That whole album is a masterpiece.
I saw him live in concert, he was amazing, one of the best performers.

You mention he is like an actor that sings...... Meatloaf has been in over 60 movies/TV shows..... "Rocky Horror Picture Show," "Blackdog," "Fight Club," " Wayne's World" to name a few.....
'Wayne's World', really? I was just thinking about that movie today (Garth!); I'll have to watch it again.

Inna you really need to look at the more popular video of this. This one is not a good representation of his talent. Like always ML gives it his all but health problems and age have killed his voice. No disrespect here. Until the end his fans were loyal and despite his voice could still sell tickets. They knew he was still giving 110%.
The last decade or two were hard on his voice, and he had already loast a whole octave in the 1970s. Saw him live in '94, which was still quite a good performance. But it hurts to hear him try to find a voice line that works here. You can still hear the quality of the voice he once had, but it's... hard.
Hi. Wrong decade, Meat Loaf was at his best in the 80s and early 90s, here he is just a has been even If he still got a little of his great pipe left. But the great Jim Steinman song still lives, an songwriter and composer we sadly have lost and no one can fill he’s shoes today. Now it’s just mainstream, no one tells a story and no one dares to write a song that is longer than 3 minutes anymore. It’ sad😢.
The reason Meatloafs music sounds theatrical is because the writer of most of his songs is Jim Steinman who has worked on music in theatre and written songs also for Bonnie Tyler, the original music video is better a younger guy that could hold his notes longer to give his edginess a lift
I really hope someone else noticed that the chord structure of this song is almost a direct copy of Springsteen's Thunder Road. Not really a criticism, just saying.

It seems like you enjoyed the music but completely missed the lyrics. There is so much story in this song (and the whole album). You should at least read the lyrics now.

Agreed. I really dislike it when reactors do a first-time listen to a live version. Even the good ones, which this wasn't.
