Ahh! I love seeing people appreciating the technical prowess of Meat Loaf. Meat Loaf was a master of so many difficult technical elements of his songs, but he never lost himself in them either. He wouldn’t just sing them expertly, he’d sing them in character. He was also captivating live. He’d feed off of the audience while in character while crushing those notes. He was one hell of a performer and is dearly missed.

HI Aaliyah, what a lovely reaction to this amazing and iconic video by the late, great Meatloaf. I just wanted to add something which is largely unknown, the lady singing with him towards the end is not the supermodel in the video (not sure of her name), but the singers name is Lorraine Crosby. She's from Northern England, and she was at the studio when this was being recorded. She was there that day to record something in her own right, but as Meatloaf's singer failed to turn up, she was asked if she'd take up the offer and thank God, she accepted, because she was, as you say, quite amazing. Greetings from the UK. 🙋‍♂

The woman seen in the video lip-syncing to Lorraine Crosby's audio is Dana Patrick.
There is also what is considered a "follow up" or continuation to this song called "I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth) where Dana, again, appears in the video, this time lip-syncing to Patti Russo's audio.
Then there is another Meat Loaf song/video called "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" where Ellen Foley sings the female part but Karla DeVito appears in the video.
And, yes Aaliyah, this video is based on "Beauty And The Beast" as well as "Phantom Of The Opera".

Thank you Aaliyah for another excellent reaction! Meatloaf comes from a musical theatre background and he excels at this kind of song! Pretty much all of his great hits were written by the amazing Jim Steinman, who also played the piano on most of the tracks, and knew how to write for his friend. Sadly both passed away in the past two years, but their first LP Bat Out Of Hell, while only seven songs long, is amazing, every track! I would highly recommend "Bat Out Of Hell" and "For Crying Out Loud", though each track is worthy of a reaction. Finally, I was lucky enough to see him live in 1978 doing the Bat Out Of Hell tour, and while I have seen more concerts and performances than I can count that one still remains one of the best shows I have ever seen! Continued success to you on your channel, your studies, your music and all you do for us!!

Meat Loaf's debut album "Bat Out of Hell" was brilliant in its entirety. He also had about four other great songs before he lost his voice, in which, this is one of his last hits. He sang one song, "Hot Patootie", in The Rocky Horror Picture Show film and became a instant legend. That resulted in getting his first record deal. He had at least two number one hits, "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" and "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". He created the genre of theatrical pop rock. Watch his early live performance and you will notice he clutches a red cloth to calm his nerves on stage. He gave so much of himself during live shows that he needed an oxygen tank backstage. Like a true entertainer, he never complained and gave his best playing in both large and small venues. R.I.P. Meat Loaf.

If you like this kind of Bombast Rock (Jim Steinman's signature productions) then you need to check out Bonnie Tyler's songs "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (1983) or "Holding out for a Hero" (1984)
If "Holding out for a Hero" doesn't get your blood pumping then you should seek medical attention.
Also, Bonnie Tyler had a very unusual female voice which should pique your interest.
Edit: Total Eclipse is a slow romantic song, Holding out is an afterburner! 😉

Meat Loaf (born Marvin Aday, later Michael Aday) got called 'Meat' in school because of his oversized frame... He loved theater, but came from a difficult home... After his mom died when he was 19, he left his abusive dad and moved to L.A. and worked as a theater performer in the early 70's and looked for gigs as a singer... He was cast in the musical movie 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' in 1973. He met songwriter/ musician Jim Steinman around that time and the 2 began working on a record since 1972 without any interest from the music industry.
Persistence paid off for Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman who were signed in 1977 and released the album 'Bat out of Hell'... a mix of rock, opera and musical theater. It would go on to sell 43 million copies worldwide (15 million in the US) and became an international hit ... Meat Loaf would tour into 1979, but vocal problems ended up delaying another album w/ Jim Steinman writing the songs.
Meat Loaf finally released a new album 'Dead ringer' in 1981, but the public had lost interest and the album sold poorly in the US, but still did well internationally... Lawsuits w/ his record label and a split w/ Steinman in the 80's put Meat Loaf in obscurity in the US for a decade. He did still release albums in Europe & other areas.
The reunion w/ Jim Steinman came in the early 90's and Meat Loaf released the long-awaited sequel album 'Bat out of Hell II: Back into Hell' in 1993... it charted at #1 and sold 15 million copies worldwide, securing a major comeback for Meat Loaf... Subsequent albums by Meat Loaf did not sell as well; Meat Loaf's political views also hampered his popularity... Jim Steinman did not work on the 3rd 'Bat out of Hell III: The Monster is loose' album in 2006... Meat Loaf did record a live version of 'Bat out of Hell' w/ the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
By that point, both Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman were in poor health... Meat Loaf's vocals were not as potent anymore. The 2 worked on what would be the last Meat Loaf album 'Braver than we are' in 2016... Jim Steinman died in 2021.
Meat Loaf was unable to tour any more due to failing health and died in early 2022.
To check out more Meat Loaf classics - "You took the words right out of my mouth' ... 'Rock n roll dreams come through'... 'Not a dry eye in the house' ... 'Dead ringer for love' ... 'Life is a lemon and I want my money back' ... 'Midnight at the lost & found'... 🔥🔥

Some nice observations for a first viewing. There's a lot in the song (and more in the video) that's up for interpretation but I've always thought like you that something happened with her and is has to do with his curse. It gives you a chance to think about the story as even more than just a Beauty & The Beast clone. I've been a fan of Meatloaf since the early 80s and have always appreciated his passion and skill. It's awesome to watch a new generation of people (especially artists) discovering him. If you haven't tried them yet, my two favorite people to see in these reaction videos is Morrisette Amon (a Filipina singer with at least 1/2 billion views, and IMHO the best pop singer in the world) and Dan Vasc who is a Brazilian metal singer that enjoys doing unusual cover songs in a metal way (especially Disney cartoons and female song). Both are astonishingly good if you're looking for new people to listen to and a way to increase the fan base.

Yeah, this song is very much about feelings of grief, loss, longing, and guilt. Something terrible happened to his love, and he’s consumed by his emotions, which leave him isolated and feeling like a monster. It takes her (or the memory of her) to force him to confront his feelings, get closure, and begin the painful process of healing.

I see you aired this seven months ago and I'm not sure if you will come back around and see this comment, but I wanted to add something to the discussion - Meat Loaf was the leader in the genre called "Rock Opera" which matches extravagant musical production with extravagant visual storylines. Rock Opera was the style used for the production of "Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Little Shop of Horrors", "Tommy - A Rock Opera", and a few others. It is a specific entertainment genre and Meat Loaf helped bring it into the mainstream. The integration of the musical and visual productions is the intent of the genre - meaning (in my mind) that you can listen to the soundtrack for this song, maybe on a radio or iHeart or something, but without the visual half, you lose most of the entertainment experience - without the visual, you have a nice song that was, in most cases, too long to play on the radio when it originally came out.

This video (and the other videos from the album) were directed by Michael Bay (Transformers/Armageddon/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) back when he was known for doing TV Adverts. (So really unknown, who knows people who directs tv commercials?) - So arguably these videos helped make him what he is today.

7 mins of PURE...hell or fun! Depending on if I was acting or calling the show! We used this as a song for a stage magic performance, I've been both on stage, AND calling the show for it. Everytime I hear it, I'll sing AND call Go's at the same time! It's ingrained in me now! "I know you can (Standby LX 3)save me, no-one else can save me now but you (3-GO!)."
Beauty and the Beast is EXACTLY what we went for in the show! Dying roses, lovers 'leaving'...just...a dang fun song to play to! (Also, he grew up in Port Dover!)
Certain shows, we even played 'him' as the phantom of the opera, since it REALLY fits... Never got to play on stage on those shows because, well, I was ALSO the only one licenced to play with the dry ice we used...

I'm reading the comments and while there are some comments about Jim Steinman (writer of the song), I wanted to give a little more background on him. He wrote almost all of Meatloaf's songs. It is absolute divine intervention that the two of them connected. Jim wrote the most amazing, epic songs and Meatloaf's unique and theatrical voice matched perfectly. To let you know how amazing a writer Jim was (out side of meatloaf) there was a time in 1983 where Jim had written both the Number 1 and number 2 songs in the country. Total Eclipse of the Heart (Bonnie Tyler) and Making Love Out of Nothing at All (Air Supply). He wrote for Celine Dion, Air Supply, Binnie Tyler, Barry Manilow, Bette Midler, and more. Jim was an amazing writer and musician, but Jim and Meatloaf were truly a match made in heaven!!!!

First off great reaction! You’re a natural at this :) It is very romantic and I have a weird relationship with this song and I will tell you a story if you all will indulge me.
I grew up poor and rough in the states, my wife grew up in Manila. Her parents made solid money so she didn’t struggle financially though she did in other ways. She came to the states at 16 for college while I got my diploma via homeschooling at 16 (Left public school cuz of violence, being white in a place where few others are white leads to racism towards you) that’s how we ended up together. I struggled with undiagnosed ptsd/depression and chronic physical pain from all the violence and some other things that are a bit too personal to share here. My wife was sheltered and not so good at handling an angry, brooding and hurt young man. Fast forward a handful of years Our relationship that started as teenagers had become toxic while we lived together due to poor communication, insecurity, cultural differences and my trauma.
One day about 15 years ago while on the phone talking with my mom I heard this song in the background. I asked her for the video and she sent it to me and I checked it out. I’m not sure why but meatloaf’s character in the video and his voice hit me in a really deep way. I came to the realization that I was a good guy with a monster on his back and I needed help. Our relationship was doomed if it continued like this and I didn’t want to be angry my whole life. So I started getting therapy and really taking care of these problems. My wife on seeing this, started to do the same. It was a hard road but we ended up in a place of mutual love, appreciation and respect. It reignited our love for each other which continues to this day. I’m a 39 year old man now and it scares when I think about “What if I never heard this song in the background?”
Anyways, if anyone read this crazy wall thank you lol it’s a long one. I want to end with romance is worth it no matter your age or the pain you may get in the future because of love. It’s a hell of a rollercoaster and you will grow because of it no matter the outcome. You younguns out there: Don’t wait too long to tell *that* person you like them. We live once so roll the dice :)

Well - there were/are singers which are to vain and/or afraid to get strong female duet partners or dont even made duets. Meat Loaf is the opposite - he mostly had really good and strong female partners when he made duets. This song is a really nice example for this, his studio partner was Lorraine Crosby, later he sung it live with Patti Russo but his most famous duet for sure is "Paradise by the dashboard light" with Ellen Foley in the original. He also made a Duett even with Cher and I remember his live partner at the mid 80s tour Doreen Chanter - a voice of its own. Maybe you should do his duet with her at "All Revved Up With No Place To Go" and get blown away by her- a lousy picture quality but sound is good enough on the vid ---> czcams.com/video/TwVq-ADbVeo/video.html
