I appreciate you for this. This gem of a title has a deceptively simple aesthetic that belies a VASTLY more involved and interconnected RPG ecosystem. Would love to find more gems like these in Steam Store. Chronic save scumming aside, this game and its prequel deserve their praise they get! ❤
to this day i still dont know why primrose story is so dark... i mean the others character have their troubles and all but compare to primrose they are pretty tame in comparison
Classical
To this day, I regret not getting the special edition. Everything about this game is just amazing. I cannot wait for the sequel
Picked up OT2 as I love this genre. It’s a gem. A lot of this carries over to the sequel
I grew up playing rpgs like the snes final fantasies, chrono trigger, lunar and Lufia. This gem of a game fits right in with them. I fell in love with it almost instantly. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of old school rpgs. The sequel is right around the corner, and I can't wait to tear into it.
I agree with you. People say that turn-bases JRPGs are dead but I hope that Octopath turns into a franchise of its own lol
Live A Live
Excellent video! Just recently installed Octopath Traveler, as I missed some of the old turn based and just from the beginning, I'm loving the art direction:D
This was really helpful and informative. I'm kinda halfway through the game and learnt a couple of things still.
Thank you for this guide! I went in totally blind and beaten all chapter 1 scenarios, but when I reached chapter 2 I was destroyed by everything and dealt nearly no damage. Secondary jobs are a game changer, unlocking cities and shrines now before preparing for chapter 2 stories
this game sounds hard :(
@@bubbaXzonejust a jrpg
@@bubbaXzoneit is....😢
@@TheRealFutureMillionaire really you played it? I am more into simpler things, and i hate being lost or not knowing what to do anymore! Getting old sux lol
Been wanting to get this for so long and finally bought it the other day. I have not been dissatisfied at all! Reminds me of the jrpgs I played as a kid.
I bought this when it came out. I think I played maybe 5-8 hours I don’t remember but I realllly want to get back into it and this video helped a lot thank you. The game really is gorgeous and fun.
Great tips, will play this once I'm done with TOTK.
Looks great.
Awesome tips - thank you!
i like it when you can assemble a team you want, but i don't like the interchangeable stuff - once i chose my team, i don't want to change that and level the ones i didn't want anyway
Apothecary is probably best in the hands of either Obelic or H’aanit because Last Stand wrecks with them and they also make good tanks and pitch-healers.
You should do an LP of this game. Awesome tips!
Thanks! You're not the first person to say that...i might consider it :D
I intended to buy Octopath Traveler 2 but due to carelessness accidentally bought Octopath traveler 1 instead. It's kinda tough for me but guides like this really help. Thanks!
Very helpful!
Finally picked this game up and have been blown away by it! Its a better final fantasy game than all of the final fanstasy games since FFX. The FF team seems to have lost the plot on what the fan base wants, and keeps doubling down on dark dreary emo worlds full of nihilistic pointlessness. Granted, im not against these kinds of stories, but when you start out that way and just double down on it through the whole game its just... Ugh. Life is hard enough! I want my game time to be fun! And i want to get swept up in a story. If the story goes dark for a few chapters then thats fine... Just dont drag us through the mud the entire way through! Octopath seems to get this, and it is full of little ups and downs through the story so far, and it is just such a nice escape. Such a great combo of good yurn based combat and bite-sized story telling. Its not perfect, but man is it the best thing ive played from square in at least a decade!
Great tips thanks ☺️
entering a building they are guarding!!! so THATS provoke FOR?? jesus how did I missed that... welp, that was a HUGE "I wish I had known" so thanks!!! that tip alone made my view worth :D
Good video.
Nice video, when you choose a character to play with & recruit other characters, when you play a new story with a different character do you have to level up other characters from scratch or will they have that same level??
I can't actually remember to be very honest with you but I do know that each character needs to be levelled up individually, XP does not carry over to other characters
For the sake of assembling an every-use party, would it be a good idea to avoid doubling up on potential path actions (ie avoid having Olberic and H'aanit in the same party whenever possible)?
I always try to avoid doubling up on path actions....funnily enough, I recently uploaded a video on the best party setup in Octopath :) it's the most recent upload, hope it helps
You should do the second game
Thank u
I stumbled into a cat today, and suddenly gained a huge LV up, i just found my second travel companion. Now i understand why that happend, thank you. 🐱
Haytch-D made me think of meecrowaavay
omg I didn't know what Cait is, so I hit him with the least dmg as possible just for experiment and it flee😭 NOOOOOO I really should have watch this video sooner
Do you mean it’s best to attempt a rogue action if the chance is below 80%?p
have you done a walkthrough for this game 🤔
Unfortunately no, we don't tend to do playthroughs on this channel, its more dedicated to tips, reviews and list videos.
There are 4 secret super shrines btw
Yeah I know, I just thought that was a bit too advanced to include in this particular video :D
What is the name of the shrines
@@awie_man6299
Shrine of the Runeblade, found in West Everhold pass.
Shrine of the Archmage, found in East Duskbarrow trail.
Shrine of the Starseer, found in Western Wispermill flats.
Shrine of the Warbringer, found in North Riverford traverse.
Where exactly do I go after I acquire all the characters? It seems like most story paths require a higher level than I currently am.
By the time you get all characters you should be around level 20. Go to "tier 2 zones", the ones leading to chapter 2 stories for characters to level up a bit. Or go around, explore a bit and find the job shrines, this will make your characters much more powerful. I just finished olberic chapter 2, my characters are around lvl 30-35. Olberic is warrior/apothecary, cyrus is scholar/merchant, ophilia is cleric/dancer and therion is thief/hunter. This lets me cover all weaknesses and every character has AoE abilities.
Do all my characters need to be level 20? or just my main character? I’ve been trying to do Therion’s chapter 2 story but it hasn’t been working out very well. Haven’t found any shrines yet tho.
@@SupahTheSnowy Im leveling only the 4 im using at the moment, the rest are around level 13. Probably gonna clear all 4 chapters for each of my party before i switch in the low level ones.
Theres a decent training place near the entrance to bolderfall, its a cave. The enemies are weak to spears bows and wind iirc.
edit: its my first time running through the game and im playing more or less blind but i think having cyrus(merchant support job) or tressa(scholar support job) is a must. Almost every enemy is weak to fire, ice, thunder or wind so far and having 2hit aoe spells makes breaking enemies extremely easy. Try adding one of the 2 into your party it will make it much easier. Therion is a permanent member more or less unless you dont care about the locked chests or dont mind sometimes backtracking. Also i suggest walking everywhere and doing side quests, money seems like the #1 issue for me so far.
I didn't think you like straight turn-based RPGs
Normally I don't but I've decided to broaden my horizons :)
If you end up liking this bravely default 2 is amazing
@@ryancrownover1578 I've never heard of that one, thanks for the recommendation :) Just looked it up and it sounds great!
I’ve played for 54 hours, never seen an so mob Cait…wtf😮
They can flee from battles really quickly and are easy to miss ...if they flee you don't get the XP
@@Amalgamingle haha, yeah I just realised, I was probably not paying attention all this time. They are like cactuar from FF I guess. I’ve been farming them now that I know what they are 😁
"Things I wish I knew before playing" - "If you have't unlocked everything in the menu screen don't watch this"... Mixed signals there somerwhat
If people don't want to know things about a game before they play it then they shouldn't watch a video called "things I Wish I Knew Before Playing" 😂 ....at least I had the sense to include a spoiler alert. I have to if I don't want people to attack me in comments over things that aren't even real spoilers - which they do 😅
@@Amalgamingle I agree. I just thought that things I wish I knew before playing videos will always have spoilers, given its sharing experience of the game post playthrough to advise anyone new of pitfalls to avoid. I guess folks are delicate and unless you put spoilers in big shiny letters they'll have a little gurn.
Basically, not for Pokemon players 😂
Just got this game. 2 hours in and its pretty boring.
Well the game isn't going to be for everyone :) it's a shame you're not enjoying the game
The concept of the video is nice, but a video about things to know BEFORE playing that starts with a spoiler warning and suggesting you should come back after starting the game is not very useful. Maybe try to organize the first tips to not have spoilers and announce in the middle of the video that the next section will have spoilers IDK, I will save the video and maybe check it out later, but now I will look for a video without spoilers
I totally understand what you are saying and it really depends on what you would consider to be a spoiler. Personally I don't think gameplay elements are spoilers but if I didn't put a spoiler warning in, people would have got on my case about not including a spoiler alert (they always do, even when there's literally no spoilers). Better safe than sorry
I hate stupid region lock hope those game dead
Are you crazy??? o.0
Passive aggressive "old times were better" reviewing is cringe ah. She could have just reviewed it without crapping on today's gaming. She's such a grandpa
At no point do I crap on today's gaming and Octopath Traveller was released in 2018. Its not a retro game. I'm also not old enough to refer to the 'old times' of gaming because when ps1 was released I was 4 and not remotely interested in gaming until my mid-20's...and I would be a grandma actually not grandpa - Heather
@@Amalgamingle ok grandpa
it's true though, old school games were dope af "grandpa talk"
Great tips! Thank you.
