âDad energy devlogâ has gotta be my new favorite type of video
Haha. I think Iâm going to make t shirts.
@@advancenineomg please do I need that
Inspiring. Enjoying this series.
Really nice of you of you to say. Thank you!
Hi SSJK9
aint no way bro
didnt expect to see you here
This was such an incredible devlog. The game looks amazing. I can't wait to see where it goes in the future.
Seriously? What a cool thing to say. Thank you. I'm also super excited to see the future of this game!
"The game" pfff.. DONT U MEAN "NIGHT STONES"!!!
@Dabidar o my gosh you're right I can't believe I missed that
Lol. You guys are awesome.
When you used Photoshop to re-inform your LUT, I spent the subsequent 5 minutes saying every swear I know. It just came out of me!!!! I am astounded in the best way!!!
Hahaha! I did the same when I learned that trick. So freakin helpful. Iâm glad you found you it useful.
Putting a secret entrance behind at least one waterfall is good. There are some laws of game design you just don't break.
Haha. You. You understand me. Iâm totally with you.
"game dev dad", love that for this channel
Right!? Itâs so freakin perfect. Iâm happy to embrace it đ
"You cannot see wind in real life, but this is my game..." absolutely right that your game :)
Art style of this game looks really nice. So soothing and calming đđ. Would definitely give it a play when it releases đ.
If you play it, it would make my life. You. Are. Rad.
Hands down my favorite Game Developer/Dad series. This is giving me so much inspiration. Thank you so much!
No way. Thank YOU for your motivational support. I truly appreciate it.
I enjoy watching dev logs but I donât usually stick around for the rest, I just browse. Iâm not really sure what it is you did but I am throughly invested in these videos and canât wait to see more!!
Thanks for taking the time to make these! Theyâre awesome! I just recently started learning unity and seeing your work definitely helps motivate me, hopefully I can be as good as you are one day!
Aww that is SO nice to hear. Thanks for your super kind words. I assure you that you are motivating me as well. Thank you for your support!
that's the dad's energy power!
If only Bob Ross could create an open world with today's game engines. It would not be the same as painting on a canvas, but there could be so many rocks, trees, and shrubberies that would be our happy little friends.
Haha. You! You get me đ
W dad its just simple this series is like a normal teacher teaching but hes doing it with something we all love to do GAMING
Yeaaaaaah! I love hearing this. You are wonderful đ
Unity's particle system really is amazing. It's one of my favorite parts of unity as well!
There's two of us! That's great news!
The wholesome dad vibes just don't stop and i'm all for it! I will definitely be checking this game out when it releases.
Thank you much. Iâm glad you like the dad vibes cus itâs kinda all I got lol. If you play the game and like it, itâll make my life :) I have a steam link in the description if you want to play the demo when it releases.
You should do a call to action for people to wishlist the game on your videos. Great job on the devlog, very entertaining.
I appreciate that feedback. Thatâs really helpful and I make a cta next time. Thank you!
Ah man I know the pain of trying to find a name that is simple enough to be remembered and unique enough not to clash with already existing things. Nightstones sounds awesome tho, I think the iterating was worth it on that
Oh thank you. I really app that. It took some researching but I also like the name and now Iâm like super committed to it đ I appreciate your feedback!
I love hidden doors behind waterfalls !
Me too. Meeeeee tooooooo! Gonna show whatâs behind the waterfalls in the next episode. It premieres in like 6 hours. Eeeeeee!
The game is coming along very nicely! I didn't know I can make my LUTs in Photoshop by just applying the screenshot effects on the LUT too đ€©
Right!? When I learned that trick it was a freakin game changer! Iâm so glad you found it useful.
Can't wait to see the next part!
I seriously canât wait to show you. I cant to start showing more story elements next week with a dialogue system!
It rare to see "first game" videos when a person actually understands what he is doing. Good work
Ha. I have 5 mobile game failures behind. Slowly but surely, I am becoming less dumb :)
These devlogs give me so much joy, you're so charismatic and easy to follow and your kids are adorable. The game is looking soooo freaking good! Can't wait to see more!
Thatâs the nicest thing anyone could ever say. Honestly. Thank you.
As a dad this is truly inspiring! I've been wondering about starting to build games, but family + being a freelancer doesn't seem to fit quite well đ I discovered your channel a couple of days ago and I'm really enjoying the content!
Haha. You are closer than you think! I hope to see you make something amazing. Thanks for the super generous words!
I am exactly on the same boat. 2 small kids + freelancing and just thinking about making my own game.
This series is incredibly motivating.
Thanks and good luck finishing your game!
Iâve got one on the way and Iâve been terrified that Iâll lose the ability to do stuff like this, so this is inspiring for sure!
My new favorite devlog series to watch!
What a coincidence! This is my favorite comment to read. Thank you!
these logs are great!! love the dad energy, i bet your kids are gonna love running around in the game and bragging to all their friends about the game their dad made
Haha! I hope so. I had a cool thought a couple of days ago that I could introduce them to video games with my games. That. Would. Be. Sweet!
@advancenine well from the looks of things this game will be a great entry point for them. It's a game I know I would have loved running around in, (even if I didn't know what I was doing) it's got spyro/zelda vibes to it. Maybe add a little easter egg into the game just for them. Would be a great way to get them even more excited for it.
advancenine, thank you so much for posting these devlogs! I was very fortunate to find your first devlog and I subscribed to you asap. the quality of your videos are very good especially for someone who just started. I can't wait to see how the game changes and further develops. good luck on your game man! â€
Holy wow that is a nice thing to say. Honestly thank you for being so awesome and supportive. I am pumped to get this game into your hands so you can play it. It will honestly make my heart happy :)
@advancenine I'm counting on it, the progress so far is amazing đ It looks very good and polished. A minor critique, I am not sure about your wind particles. I think you were trying to fill the air with something, but the wind doesn't quite look right. Maybe you can instead put small flying insects of sorts and add in wind trails when you're flying? just a suggestion!
@@TheRallen I appreciate that feedback. Not to worry. I can never settle on anything until Iâve changed it at least 5 times :)
Since I forgot to mention it in the last video, that and this devlogs quality are over the top!
I'd bet you'll reach the million view mark with one of these videos in no time.
I hope it's ok I show this devlog to my students as an inspiration for both video making and game making!
Awesome work, thank you for sharing!
Wow this comment really made my day. Yes. Please share with your students! We need more young ones into STEM! And if I ever hit a million, you are invited to celebration party!
You could try adding these things: Fishing, a village to buy stuff and do missions, enemies in dangerous places, the game lacks a lot of stuff but its gonna be great.
I love your ideas and totally agree. Right now itâs all about infrastructure so the world is pretty boring. But Iâm excited to add all the fun stuff in future episodes :)
I love that we can see the breeze / wind!!
Heck yeah! Thank you!
Wow, this is looking amazing so far! Keep it up! I'm looking forward to seeing Night Stones development.
Yay! You're the first person ever to type "Night Stones" other than me. Lets be friends! You're amazing!
Glad I subscribed! Didn't expect to see another devlog so quick. Great to see this being put together. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the sub! Itâs so helpful! Iâm glad you are enjoying this. It makes my day actually!
NEXT! (ep3) haha Liking this, Well Done with the post processing and LUT đđđ
Aww thank you so much!
Watching your devlogs motivated me to try my hand at learning Unity once again. This time, I am trying to document my progress in the form of CZcams shorts to sustain my motivation.
Thank you!
What a cool idea! Iâm pumped for you and look forward to seeing what you create!
I really enjoy how you explain your design choices, especially the grass being noisy. Ignore the haters, Keep doing what you're doing, good luck on everything.
Yeeeeeeeeeah! I like you. Thanks so much for the support!
This looks incredible - canât wait to see how it turns out!
Me neither! Thank you!
I love the wind particle! they add alot of life to the game!
Yay! Thank you!
Nah, this guy is such an amazing father. Taking time to help and play with your young kids makes all the difference :)
This is *really* inspirational!
I've only recently gotten into Indie Game Dev, and seeing what you're doing, and how you're doing it is definitely giving me a lot to think about.
Thank you for making this into a Devlog series!
Thank you for watching it. The response to this series has overwhelmed and shocked me. Itâs truly so nice to know there are others getting it done just like me. I canât wait to see what you make!
Loving the series so far, you made a huge improvement with the look and feel by working on the nature. Whenever I watch your videos I get more encourage to keep learning and improving. Thanks man, you have lovely kids too!
Wow dude. Thatâs a nice thing to say on all fronts. Thank you. Every 6 months, I look back and realize how little I knew so I love to keep learning!
You can tell that he is such a proud Dad.
Ahahahaha! I totally am!
Letsssss go! found your channel just like 1 hour ago and you already posted another video! Niceeeee
Dude! I was just waiting around for you to find me so I could post again. Took you long enough :P Thanks for being rad and supporting me.
Oh man, I really like your devlogs. They are very entertaining and it helps me as a game dev that you always mention how you accomplished certain goals. Keep up the great workđŻ
Yeah! Thank you đȘ
I love this videos. The format is great and your editing and commenting is just pure entertainment. This game is starting to looks really awesome. I would love to see in the devlogs not only what visual changes are you doing but also the implementation of mechanics (the bridges at night and so on). Also love this idea of night vs day and maybe dream?
Would be awesome to include some puzzles (and some hard ones in "bonus ireas "? Like flying at night to zone that is normally accesible only at day or something like that)
Yeah! I really like the way you think! Honestly you're vision is exactly what I want. I'm going to use the black and white shader you see in these videos for the dream sequences. And all my previous games were puzzle game and I heart Zelda so puzzles are on! Thanks for the kind words!
This is the most technically advanced and at the same time wholesome devlogs on CZcams!!!
Sometimes a game developer has a really good-looking game but his devlog is boring but man you really nailed it amazing-looking game and really enjoyable devlog
Really? Wow thatâs a nice thing to say. Iâm still getting used to CZcams so this is really nice to hear. Honey. Thank you.
Also, I'm glad to hear that you thought of a good name. It is indeed critical to have a simple, catchy, and original name. As an added bonus, the name Night Stones is derived from an important game mechanic.
Right!? I feel like I lucked out with the name. I like it. Thanks for your comment!
You look so passionate about your game, one can really tell that you love what you're doing. I really like your attitude, like you can really do anything you want in your game like how the winds are working, it's really cool.
I appreciate that! This comment makes my â€ïž happy.
Really great asthetic and shader and post processing techniques. Creates a really engaging world
Thank you! I appreciate that feedback. I am alway impressed how much those add to the scene.
Amazing progress. Love the series so far â€.
Thank you so much for watching!
Love your devlogs. You seem like a stand-up dad. Good luck with this.
Oh wow thank you. Thatâs the highest praise I could get.
@@advancenine Haha, no worries. I'm a father myself, so I know the joy these little ones can bring. Enjoy every minute mate!

Some really inspiring work! I love the bright and colorful scenery. I am drawn to the simple but captivating visual styling that you use in this game. Awesome!
Ok I'm honestly excited to see what you make out of this
Thank you. Me too actually. Itâs so awesome in my head and I canât wait to make it đ
Thank you soo much for this, I love the tutorials kinda slidin in there during the video! I love your style and you kids are soo cuteđ I think its insane how much you have done in the two weeks, as soon as I found your channel I had to sub I found you are an absolutely wonderful creator! I love these, you gotta make a discord or maybe do streams so others can see your progress and thought process as its happening! Also I have tried forever to try and get a beautiful outdoor lighting/shader like you have, I gotta learn how to do so!
Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback and I really appreciate the sub. There is a lull in my day job so Iâm hammering this project right now. Unfortunately, the updates wonât always be this frequent. But Iâm riding high while I can!
â@@advancenine that sucks about your job. And I dont think it matters how frequently you upload, it matters about the quality of your uploads (which you NAIL), for example Dani, he hasn't posted in almost two years, yet when he does, it will be a banger I'm sure! Keep it up!
@@PengiiiiGameDev thats really good to know and i appreciate the feedback!
I'd be interested to see the water shader flipped because deeper water is usually darker so the center of your river should be dark. I don't think I'd like it as much because the light blue you use right now is great but I just wanna see it because it's a neat shader lol
You have a sharp eye. I actually did it that way first because you are right: thatâs how water actually works. But I liked it better flipped because it have the world a more stylized feel. I usually tweak these things a few times before settling so donât be surprised if I change me mind đ Iâm seriously impressed you noticed that detail.
for some reason I think this map would be really cool for surviving endless waves of enemies
Maybe Iâll throw a zombie horde Easter egg on there đ
Hey! I am a Bioengineer turned game developer. I am really loving and appreciating all the work you are putting into your nice video game. I am very proud of you sir. Keep up the wonderful work you are doing. Pretty soon both you and your children will have a fun game you can play together, how cool is that! God bless you!
Aww what a cool comment! Thank you! Iâm so excited to play Night Stones with my kids :)
I love it! keep it up ! i hope that one day ill be coding and making games like you!
Go back to my early videos and see how terrible my first games were. It's like life: a journey and you get out of it what you put in. Keep working and I assure you that YOU will make something AMAZING!
This look amazing! It's really inspiring to see how quickly you built up a pretty scene, and it makes me want to work on my ideas more, ha ha. A quick question: In the last video, there was actually some moments where the water looked like how it does by the end of this video. Were the "users" who told you the water could be less sharp people from before the previous video was uploaded?
Thanks for the kind words! And yes users from a Reddit post a few weeks ago clued me into the water. You see through my narrative! Iâm new to CZcams posts so Iâm catching up :)
@@advancenine Ahhh, that makes a lot more sense! Thanks for explaining, and I love this series. :)
This series has been so well done and inspiring. Thank you!
Thanks for such a nice comment. This is so motivating!
The most wholesome dev logs.
Itâs the dad energy :)
The black and white scenes at 4:11 looks really nice for a concept. How did you create it?
I tried so many things and what worked best was of course something super simple. Desaturate. Find edges. Done. I'm going to use in game for dream sequences now because I love that effect.
That lut editing trick is pretty neat. It never occurred to me
Iâm so glad you found it helpful. When I learned that it was a freakin game changer.
Love the name, hate the last line of the video đ Can't wait to see more about the gameplay mechanics!
Hahahah. Thank you for speaking truth!
I canât help but smile while watching this. Thank You!!
I canât help but smile while reading this đ
2:48 twilight town!! Kingdom hearts refrance!!! Loving the videos btwđđ
Yay! You got the reference. Iâm a big Disney guy so kingdom hearts is one of my fave games. Twilight town is just too perfect for a game about night and day.
Love your devlogs, keep em coming :)
Deal! Thanks so much. Part 3 is only days away :)
This is amazing. Thank you for this series. I'm looking forward to future videos. Really inspiring.
Glad you like them! Thanks so much for your rad feedback!
Looks amazing. I can't wait to see what comes next.
Don't forget to cull objects outside camera view to save resources.
Thanks for the supportive and technical feedback. I really appreciate it. Yourre like a dual threat!
I got to say, Watched this one and the first video, and I'm impressed. Watch out @Danidev you have some competitionđ
Hahahaha! I like the way you think... we'll see if this nerdy dad can keep pace with the big CZcamsrs lol
@@advancenine You got this đȘ
Love these devlogs! Great job
Glad you like them! I love this comment.
Great job! It's looking great! đđđ

Holy Moly, this looks soooo incredeble. I just fell in love with this beautyful scene that you created. Great Work
Omg thank you so much!
Great little eseries! Love it!
Yay! Glad you like em.
I love your episodes! Keep em comin!
You got it. Iâm excited that you like them!
Loving this devlog series! The game is starting to look really good, keep it up!
Thanks. For you I will do anything:)
Looks very cool, and very impressive so far. Keep it up. And yes, wishlisting done :)
Thank you soooooooo much for wishlisting! Itâs the best possible way to support me. I really appreciate it!
awesome! its refreshing to see a game embrace such a vibrant and saturated color scheme instead of doing the pastel or semi-realistic look
Aww thanks for saying that. The first 7 years of my engineering career were spent designing inkjet printers and the color scientists would always tell me greener greens for grass and bluer blues for water. Iâm applying it here and itâs so crazy how things come around. Thanks for the love.
Love the series so far, thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for watching!
This is such a great, informative but also really chill series. It feels like we're learning from you and watching you work while hanging out. Keep up the awesome work!
Aww this is a cool comment. I like these videos give you that vibe. And we are totes hanging out! Just two two cool dudes making dope games.
The first video has popped up for me a couple of times now. I'm glad I watched it. Very well presented, and I can't wait for the next one!
Aww thanks for giving it a shot. Iâm so glad you liked it!
As a dad with young kids himself and an aspiring game dev, I can't tell you how motivational these two videos have been. Can't wait for the game!
Also crossing my fingers it will be on at least one other platform than just Windows đ€
Aww yourre so nice. Thank you! The game will release on windows, steam deck, Mac, Linux but Iâm hoping to have some success with it so I port it to consoles. That would be honestly be so rad :)
I really like these videos! A lot more interesting than a typical devlog, you pack a lot in and it's paced well! Really excited to see the development of this game.
Glad you like them! I means a lot to me.
Loving the series, keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Excellent stuff man, I've watched quite a few devlogs in my time and this is shaping up to be excellent quality especially since you just started
I appreciate that. Thanks so much for watching and supporting me. Iâm excited for the journey!
SO GOOD MAN. Keep em coming Advance. Glad to see the game taking off! đ±

Thanks for the sub! Youâre freakin awesome dude.
amazing work man !!! this sure is something i want to follow :D

Wonderful and inspiring! Keep going and looking forward to seeing your progress, Ryan!
Thanks Srinath! I appreciate that.
Really enjoying how this game is coming along! Excellent work
Kind words. Thank you! I hope I can meet your expectations.
I'm really enjoying the series so far.
Particularly how you go about explaining thingsđ Good luck with the game đź
Glad you enjoy it! Thatâs a really nice thing to say.
Omg man, i am glad you are leaving your dream.... i had a plan for building a little game like this for years.... but it didn't happened. I will be here waiting for the next episode.
I am living the dream and loving it :) Iâm also excited for the next episode!
Oh wow, those sunrays are particle effects? Beautiful work
Right!? Freakin particles are rad.
amazing big changes here
