Thanks for the video professor..!! I have a question to ask. Does one has to be very intelligent, in order to complete his/her PhD from a reputed university in the US. OR being with average intelligence but hard working can let the person sail through this degree, course work etc.
You need to be intelligent enough to get the degree. In every field, in every department and under every professor, there is a minimum bar you need to cross. Once you cross that bar, it is your patience, creativity and effort determines your success

I think coming time will be worst as saturation has already started in usa mainly because of Indians . I just don't why understand what is the point going to usa to see again so many Indians. I do not agree with you Sir, I graduated during the peak of Covid in 2020 and ended up with a decent job. While I was interviewing I always had good interviews lined up. So I would say yes there is a struggle but given the development and professional opportunities, it's worth the struggle. Your ROI coming to the USA can't be just measured in the dollar value of the job it's the overall development that sets you for the future.
Praveen - If things worked out for you (and I am glad it worked out well for you), then obviously it looks easy. But ask the people for whom it didn't work out so well, and they will tell you a different story. I guess as a Professor, he is able to provide a balanced perspective, as he probably knows as many students for whom it didn't work out, just as it did for you. P.S. I can relate to this, as I am myself an IIMA Alumnus, who worked & lived abroad for many years (and still have citizenship of 3 countries!). When I was younger, I never quite felt that getting into IIM was all that difficult. But much later in life (now that I am much older!), I realize that many people have to work very hard for the same things, and it is not always the same experience for everybody. Oh...so it's late at night and I come across your video and your point on American professors and their threatening style...and how many A's and B's they will give..and what they will do if you don't do this or that...or if you happen to come 5 minutes late..or the homework is not in the box by this much time. Every professor there behaves like he is the president of the University. I still remember I and a couple of other guys, we used to attend the first class and within moments we would know that this guy is a Jerk. And yes, believe me, there are racist professors who simply don't like you because you are Asian, and they will make it known to you during their very first interaction with you. I got my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 96, and oh man, was it hard...homework..homework and more homework...on and on. Very difficult to get on campus job..I can write a book on these issues. Back then h1b was easy to get. I got my opt in 2 months. Time just flies, iam 50 now. Some of the guys I knew are still there. I returned.

Look at present scenario especially if you're an IT professional don't go for masters...... Really focus on DSA and CP and the whole world will become small for you..... You'll get plenty of good jobs and earn much more with experience, doesn't matter which country you live in..... Really any higher education in any country is not worth your time energy and money wise........ Better learn a good skill and go for contractual jobs in software domain, you'll earn way more than any MAANG engineers.....
i dont know ..recently an acquaintance of mine went to study masters in boston uni in 2021 by taking bank loan of 49 lakh, and today she has a job and have repaid half the loan in just 4-6 months of her job ..if the people are living paycheck to paycheck , how come she is paying back the loan so fast. Also She got a job of 10k dollars per month and she must be saving a lot...i got confused by your video and by looking at what the she did.....can anyone clarify and give the clear picture
Do not believe everything one says. But let us assume that everything you said is true. It means that this person paid off $30k in 6 months. Which means she paid off 5k every month. Now let us say she makes 10k per month in Boston area. Which means after taxes, she gets about 6k-7k in hand. Let us say, she gets 6.5k in hand (I get 66% in hand in Texas where there is no state tax so it is impossible that she gets 6.5k in a state where there is heavy state tax). For all practical purposes, she gets 5.7-6.1k in hand salary. Let us go with 6k. Which means she is earning 6k and paying back 5k in loans every month. Now remember that in Boston a single bedroom will cost her no less than 2.5k. The minimum expenses if she lives by herself without sharing her apartment will be close to 5k. For all practical purposes, for a person making 10k a month, the expenses are likely to be between 4k-5k a month. Which means she would probably save no more than 1-2k a month. So if a person is saving at best 1-2k a month, it is impossible to pay back a loan of 5k every month. The situation changes if she pays less in rent because of shared accommodation. Even in that case, the best, the absolute best she can save is 3k a month. Mind it that it is difficult to do so in a city like Boston. So how can a person who can saves 3k, pay back 5k a month? The numbers do not add up. So the story you are telling me is unlikely to be true
I do not understand the point of making repetitive negative videos saying same things again and again in different way. It’s very simple : come to usa for masters with limited expectations of staying in states for only 5 yrs , make sure you pay back your loan in those years. There is nothing to lose if you just follow these basic rules. Not getting h1b is not end of the world or getting h1b/green card does not mean ultimate success/forever happy life.
Reality is that nobody comes to the US with 'limited' expectations except 2% students whose aim is to go back anyway or who are super affluent back home , for them, India/ US is nothing different. I don't agree with your comment- " Not getting H1B is not the end" . True, one is not going to die, but in literal sense, it's like end of the world if you don't get H1B job in the US as you will have to literally pack bags and come back home ' empty handed'. Trust me, I have faced this ; I had started my Masters back in 2006 like Professor. FOREIGN education doesn't help much if you are back in India without considerable experience abroad; you're considered as a fresher in India and Induan firm really don't value foreign education, except one has considerable experience! I'm nit generalizing, but from my personal and my colleagues experiences who had studied in the UK too!!
@Prasad, kindly note that this is not a 'demotivational' video. Each and every point mentioned here are the harsh and true realities of studying in US. Of course there are many benefits of studying in US but these things also come along with them. That said I have personally seen more than 95% of Indian students doing masters in US leading a very depressed life if they are unable to get TA/RA. But let me mention you, the situation is very different for the PhD students because they are getting paid really good from the university. Hence they can afford a decent standard of living. But unfortunately not many people do PhD and even if they are interested in research it is really difficult to get admission in good PhD programs in US. Peace!!

The only thing I was trying to say : he has already mentioned these points very clearly in many other videos , with similar video titles. Also , life is not easy in any country. Search jobs in canada , if usa has 90,000 job posts canada won’t even have 1000. Similarly in Australia and Germany/Uk international students will have their own share of problems. Spot On!! What he said, Masters without any funding is like a hell. Other point what students take for granted is that they can 'easily' fly to Canada. As he has mentioned, Canada economy is not that great compared to the US, it's relatively expensive and if you want to move elsewhere , be it Canada or Australia, you could have better studied in those countries as it would have had been easier since you get immigration points for studying. Getting FSW for Canada is not easy nowadays!!
So here you are clearly demoralizing immigrants who choose Canada. You know why its better to choose Canada over the US these days. These days people go to the US either to come back after few years or settle in Canada after few years in US. Having the green card is close to impossible nowadays. US doesn’t need immigrants, but Canada does. People who go to the US to settle there, only delay the process to get Canadian PR. One wrong point there :)
if one gets a job in Canada, then surely its great. It is usually much easier to get through immigration there. However, the number of opportunities available in Canada is much less than what you get in the US.

Getting a job in Canada as a techie is easier due to less competition but for other streams getting a job there is almost impossible. Canada needs a lot of tech immigrants atm .

For a PhD you need a research background (published research papers etc.) And a good academic record is a plus

I do not understand the point of making repetitive negative videos saying same things again and again in different way.
It’s very simple : come to usa for masters with limited expectations of staying in states for only 5 yrs , make sure you pay back your loan in those years.
There is nothing to lose if you just follow these basic rules.
Not getting h1b is not end of the world or getting h1b/green card does not mean ultimate success/forever happy life.
Reality is that nobody comes to the US with 'limited' expectations except 2% students whose aim is to go back anyway or who are super affluent back home , for them, India/ US is nothing different. I don't agree with your comment- " Not getting H1B is not the end" . True, one is not going to die, but in literal sense, it's like end of the world if you don't get H1B job in the US as you will have to literally pack bags and come back home ' empty handed'. Trust me, I have faced this ; I had started my Masters back in 2006 like Professor. FOREIGN education doesn't help much if you are back in India without considerable experience abroad; you're considered as a fresher in India and Induan firm really don't value foreign education, except one has considerable experience! I'm nit generalizing, but from my personal and my colleagues experiences who had studied in the UK too!!
@Prasad, kindly note that this is not a 'demotivational' video. Each and every point mentioned here are the harsh and true realities of studying in US. Of course there are many benefits of studying in US but these things also come along with them. That said I have personally seen more than 95% of Indian students doing masters in US leading a very depressed life if they are unable to get TA/RA. But let me mention you, the situation is very different for the PhD students because they are getting paid really good from the university. Hence they can afford a decent standard of living. But unfortunately not many people do PhD and even if they are interested in research it is really difficult to get admission in good PhD programs in US.

The only thing I was trying to say : he has already mentioned these points very clearly in many other videos , with similar video titles.
Also , life is not easy in any country. Search jobs in canada , if usa has 90,000 job posts canada won’t even have 1000. Similarly in Australia and Germany/Uk international students will have their own share of problems.
If we only focus on negatives, we can never achieve anything.

Spot On!! What he said, Masters without any funding is like a hell. Other point what students take for granted is that they can 'easily' fly to Canada. As he has mentioned, Canada economy is not that great compared to the US, it's relatively expensive and if you want to move elsewhere , be it Canada or Australia, you could have better studied in those countries as it would have had been easier since you get immigration points for studying. Getting FSW for Canada is not easy nowadays!!

So here you are clearly demoralizing immigrants who choose Canada. You know why its better to choose Canada over the US these days. These days people go to the US either to come back after few years or settle in Canada after few years in US. Having the green card is close to impossible nowadays. US doesn’t need immigrants, but Canada does.
People who go to the US to settle there, only delay the process to get Canadian PR. One wrong point there :)
if one gets a job in Canada, then surely its great. It is usually much easier to get through immigration there. However, the number of opportunities available in Canada is much less than what you get in the US.
@@DesiAmericanProfessor As working in IT for last 7 years I can surely say that all your points are absolutely right... Even I know people who got Canadian citizenship but working in Qatar and Dubai for better salaries
Getting a job in Canada as a techie is easier due to less competition but for other streams getting a job there is almost impossible. Canada needs a lot of tech immigrants atm .

When I started my channel, 50k was my lifetime goal for my channel, which is now about to be achieved in just two years. That said, this youtube is not a career for me. So you may care about my subscribers, I do not.
Don't always make negativity based videos on international students life, you are scaring the shit out of the students who are planning to come to US. You are breaking there moral and hope. For once atleast make a good inspirational video for international students and say come to USA...I don't like they way you spread negativity among international students

He is talking about the harsh reality of the struggles. Pls , listen to the video again. Is he anywhere saying that don't go to USA for studies. Why shd he say, come to America. If he says this, then people like you , will again blame for not bringing out the facts which could have guided you to take a final decision.
