  • For this video, I had the pleasure of driving the new 2021 Honda Ridgeline. I really like the redesign of the Ridgeline, and I believe it gives it a much more rugged, truck-like look. If you're in the market for a midsize truck, look no further than the Ridgeline!

    I purchased a 2020 Tundra Limited Crewmax Limited TRD Off Road Moonroof, fully loaded a few months ago. First pickup ever purchased- have always wanted/needed a truck instead of borrowing family members trucks. Went with Toyota for Reliability and Resale - Long Story short - Truck was too big for my daily needs and for My girls to drive/park etc.... traded it in for a 2021 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E and could not be happier. Before everyone starts saying the Ridgeline is not a truck (which was me). You have to smartly evaluate what you will be using your truck for. I have no need to tow 9k LBs and within the first week of owning the Ridgeline- knew this was a better fit for our family and needs. Loved the Tundra - great truck. But think of it like a tool. There are many different hammers/lawn mowers/ladders etc.... You should choose the tool that best fits your needs. Our Ridgeline can do all the pickup things that the Tundra could and many / many things better / MPG / fits in the garage / has a trunk / drives so much better / but what it cannot do is tow / or offer the interior space that the Tundra Crewmax did. So best advice IMO - Really look at what you need from a truck before you buy. Best of luck to all.

      Could not agree with you more. The Ridgeline is every hard to beat, and gets a lot of (unnecessary) hate. You hit the nail on the head when talking about comfort, storage, fuel economy, etc. Yes, the tundra is a great truck, but a lot of full size pick up owners never tow, and mpg suffers bc of the weight and engine size. Not to mention they’re not as agile. I’m glad you realized you didn’t need the tundra and made the move into a Ridgeline! I’m sure you will love it the more you keep driving it. My family’s 07’ has 169k miles, and runs like a top! Believe me when I tell you that you’ve made a great choice. Congratulations!

      Great advice. We test drove the 2021 Ridgeline and felt really comfortable and drives so well. The only problem we felt was the backseat was smaller than our CRV which we feel a little small with a carseat in the back. Also we will use a truck for towing a camper later down the road and would prefer having the extra towing power so we are going with a full size truck. Is our full size truck gonna be a daily driver? NO, Weekend Warriors? NO, Roadtrips one in a while? Yes.
      We test drove the Titan and like it.

      @@jimalden9376 Best of Luck - I got lucky that I found a Dealer not too far away that had the exact truck I wanted in transit. There is parts supplier issue for Micro Chips and that is why the delivery dates are far out and no specific timeframe. If you can wait - you will really like the truck IMO.

I liked my old Ridgeline enough that I would consider another. For sure, the new truck will get annual rustproofing (Ontario, Canada). Only question, should I wait for a 2022, so this revamped truck has a year under its belt?

      It never hurts to get the revamped version of a car the 2nd year after it comes out so the manufacturer can iron out all the kinks. For the RL however, I feel like Honda didn’t change the RL THAT much to where you would have to be worried about first year defects. I personally think you’d be fine getting a 2021. As a driver of an 07 with 175k miles, you will love the new RL

    I bot a 2021 White Black Edition a month ago. Great truck; rides like a luxury car. I do have a couple of complaints (not deal-breakers though). First complaint: the front seats sit too close to the floor. The driver's seat can be raised but the passenger seat is stuck in a low stance which is bad for short passengers who want to see outside. I placed a couple of aftermarket cushions in the passenger seat. Maybe Honda is catering to the taller folks or folks with bigger cabooses. Second complaint: the in-bed trunk has a strong chemical odor (smells like paint thinner or turpentine); I'm guessing the bed/trunk material emits the odor. There's been discussions for a few years at the Ridgeline Owner's Club website about how to get rid of the odor. I've left the trunk open & dumped some charcoal in there too but neither strategy worked. So for now, I'm not hauling groceries in the trunk.

      Yeah, can’t beat the ride! And yeah, no car is perfect, but I really wish the passenger seat was power adjustable up. Kinda a shame it’s not, but what can you do. @@703Speed Thanks for the "washing" suggestion. I'll wash it with some Dawn dish soap, try a can of Ozium, & fill it with ice too. On the topic of seats: I prefer a spit bench front seat with a center fold-down armrest (in cars too). Consoles are a big waste of prime real estate. With consoles, manufacturers have subtracted the romance factor with no chance for your honey to sit next to you & against you. You're correct - those Ridgeline armrests are deluxe. The Stop-Start feature is auto maker shenanigans, especially not being able to turn it off for good. Any chance it has its own fuse?

    • @703Speed
      @703Speed  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah that’s a good point. The consoles do definitely take up a lot of space - there should be a bench option. I doubt that’s something Honda would do though. The arm rests are a great comprise tho (in my opinion). And one of my “pet peeves” is auto stop start in any car. I really don’t see a point with it - it can’t be good for the longevity of the vehicle. I’m sure there’s gotta be a fuse, but there should be a hack to turn it completely off. I’ve seen f150’s have something you plug into the auto start button and is permanently disables it. I’m not sure if they have something like that for the RL - but it’s be something worth looking into

    I'm a fan of the Ridgeline and it's probably my next vehicle. Already drove a 2021. Fantastic. Good point about a boat, but seriously, how many people have a boat? Another thing, calling trucks with a solid axle being in the "stone age" is not why they have a solid axle. Yes, the ride is rougher, but when you're offroad, you get much more articulation with a solid axle than with independent suspension. But the trade-off is ride. For me, I want to tow a 3000 lbs travel trailer with one or two motorcycles in the back. I also want to be able to put sheets of plywood in the back when I do projects. The Ridgeline has 50 inches between the wheel-wells unlike about 44 to 47 in most others in the segment. That means FLAT laying wood. It's an amazing truck. I don't need to go rock crawling in it, so for me, it's a MUCH better option than a Ranger or Frontier or whatever. I'd also take its torque-vectoring AWD over FWD any day. The only thing I will do to mine is lift it about 3 inches and give it a skid plate. Just for some of the trails I might end up on. Thanks for the review!

Yes it really is an amazing truck, and Is 1000% more reliable (imo) than the American brands and way nicer on the exterior and interior than the frontier. I’m a fan of the RTL trim for the money. I think they missed the boat on the HPD trim. Those black stick on looking flares look horrible against the busy paint. And the way the front fender flares tapers at the bumper is horrible. Ok but I’m a huge fan of all the trims. Very clean look. Can’t wait to see these with a nice 2-3” lift and a beefier tires

      Yeah I’m not a huge HPD fan, but I do really like the black edition. The RTL is really nice also! I too am very excited to see what a 2-3” lift will look like in person. There’s a guy on here that reviewed a 2021 with a 3 inch lift. His page is Ben Hardy

      It was good. Depending on the mode. In eco it definitely kept you in the highest gear possible for mpg. Sport mode held RPM’s for max performance, and normal mode was the best (in my opinion) for daily use

      Unless you’re pulling over 5k regularly or going off road REGULARLY, get the RL. You will not regret it. I’ve driven both, and the Ridgeline rides A LOT better and has a nice interior feel. Please let me know what you end up getting

    Nice Truck. Yeah all wheel drive to me just means worse gas mileage. Don't really need it in Virginia. Front wheel drive is just fine here.

      True, but when you get those big snow storms AWD is a blessing. But 99% of the time you don’t need it. What part of VA?

    Not being able to have the ventilated seat here in the US is a deal-breaker for me. Why in Canada only, where it's cold most of the year? I took one out for a drive this week. The feel and sound of the expansion joints compared to a body-on-frame vehicle can not be ignored. The sound system is better left off. Needless to say, I'm not impressed with the drive portion. I do like many of the features this truck has. It's just not for me, yet! To clarify, I'm driving an Escalade now, and the comparison of the difference is probably not fair but is still real. So glad I do not have to deal with that non-gas-saving invention. Engine shut off at every three-second stop!

    • @703Speed
      @703Speed  Před 3 lety

      Yeah I’m not sure why they don’t have ventilated seats. It surprised me. I didn’t think the sound system was that bad, but I’m sure the Bose in the Escalade is better(should be for the price). I do think the drive is really good and on par with some Cadillac’s like the XT5 and SUV’s like that. I hate auto stop start in general too, there can’t be that much savings in gas! Thank u for watching!

      They spec some things differently in Canada for different vehicles.
      Ridgeline in Canada have models with rear heated seats and power folding mirrors. It's confusing like they had the White color Black Edition Ridgeline in Canada last year. The turn signal mirrors on Canadian models Rain Sensing Wipers on Canadian model.
      Here in USA some highest trim Pilots have ventilated seats and other features but the price point is more. I don't know if price is the factor. Those top Pilots are $48,000 and Black Edition Ridgeline is $45,000.
      But the Canadian auto market seems to be different how they spec some vehicles.

    • @mikepaulino5044
      @mikepaulino5044 Před 3 lety

      Adding ventilation to the front seats and folding mirrors would not add much to the MSRP. Maybe $10 to a monthly payment. After asking if the parts department could order said parts from the Pilot parts list. I was told no, they could not install said parts.I guess a third party could and void my warranty.

      Canadians also get the Touring Edition (next trim above RTL-E) option, with heated rear seats, and heated steering wheel. AWD was their only option as well for a few years now.
      I wish Ridgeline offered an Elite Edition (next trim above Black Edition) with the panoramic roof, copper flaked black paint, and etc... The Elite Edition Passport is amazing.
