    It’s truck enough for most people looking at a truck and if you can’t admit that, you have issues with your manhood. Period.

  • @jg8263
    @jg8263 Před 2 lety +17

    Correction, hauls more than most of the competitors with just under 1600lbs of payload. Towing is lower, not payload. Also, it has the same approach/breakover/departure as a Silverado 1500 and the chevy only has 8" of ground clearance on the non-trail boss models. So yeah, get your facts straight.

    When the other “ TRUCKS” you speak about have been turned into beer cans…… 300,000 miles later….the Ridgeline will still be on the road.
    Father in law just visited today and I looked at the odometer on his 2014. 292,000 miles. He said just good preventative maintenance and not much else. It will be my next truck!

    I always see the low mpg test number, and I always laugh. It gets substantially higher than that. My absolute worst mileage I can get on it is 21mpg in the dead of winter, on snows. I got 21mpg on the highway towing 5000 lbs (55-65mph). I did see 18-19mpg when towing that same load in hilly areas. My normal mixed city commute is 21 to 24mpg (mostly depending on summer/winter tires and summer/winter gas). My highway mileage is consistently between 31-36mpg (mostly depending on summer/winter tires and driving speed, 65-75mph). My most average mixed city mpg is 23. My most average highway mpg is 33. I've owned mine for several years and have 75k miles on the thing and through all 4 seasons. Mine doesn't even have the 9 speed auto since it's an older year, so mine has even worse mileage than what the newer one will get. The only unique thing is I tend to run mine in Eco mode all the time. This does mean it runs on 3 cylinders during lighter throttle use which is a lot of the time. I've run it off this before, and I didn't really see a major difference, maybe 1 or 2 mpg at best. I mostly run it in Eco because it's the only way the throttle map is linear. Brands make all the new cars super aggressive on throttle mapping, and it's really stupid. This is the only way around that.
    These things get much, much better mileage than they're rated, and I think the rating hurts them a lot when people are cross shopping SUVs and mid size trucks. Oddly, I have no idea how they're test rated so low. My best guess is maybe setting or something with the transmission tuning relative to the test simulation. I don't know.

      Towed a Crown Vic on a steel trailer 4 hours behind a ‘19. Averaged 19 mpg doing so. The Honda lot that let us borrow it was very smug when we turned it back in.

    • @aaronbehindbars
      @aaronbehindbars Před 2 lety

      All lies. I have a 2021 Ridgeline and it does as advertised, no better in most situations. I did manage close to 27 mpg highway one time running from Flagstaff to Albuquerque. Higher elevation and a bit of a tail wind helped eek out that result. No way would a Ridgeline get over 20 mpg towing 5000 lbs. I did 19 mpg towing my 1500 lb pop up camper.

    • @Xmvw2X
      @Xmvw2X Před 2 lety +2

      @@aaronbehindbars Don't know what to tell you. Is the quality of your gas ok up there? Even something like ethanol percentage can affect it.
      I'll get 33 mpg every day of the week on pure highway and down to 31 if I'm on winters doing 70 mph. This isn't even rare occurrence either. This is like every trip unless it's windy and I'm against a headwind the whole way. It's not one instance. Even 36 mpg isn't one instance. I've hit that a bunch of times. It's year after year, many times throughout the year. Now, 36 mpg is the highest I've seen on a single highway trip running about 90 miles to visit the family, but I've gotten that several times. Most common is 33 mpg on these commutes or 31 mpg in winter (my winter tires drop about 2-3 mpg). 29 mpg is the worst I get on the highway. For a largely highway trip, I've never seen less.
      City and mixed, yeah, it drops down. But that's still 21 to 24 mpg very consistently. I don't get less outside of towing.

      @allwoundup3574 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah it absolutely does not get the mileage you're talking about. My 2017 RTL-E averages 21 with mixed highway and city driving. The only time it even came close to 30 was during a several hour drive on the interstate.

    • @jg8263
      @jg8263 Před 2 lety

      Exactly, my 2017 Rtl-t awd got a measured 29mpg the day I drove an hour to trade it in and pick up my 2021 Sport. I routinely get low 20s with small trailers behind it (like boat and utv trailers), and get high teens pulling a 4000lb bunkhouse camper.

    Ignorance is bliss, My 06 piece of garbage, non-real truck- truck has done everything I've ever needed. I don't rock crawl or tow a camper in my daily driver. I have picked up full sheets of drywall and plywood to lay them FLAT in my mid-size. I have yet to see any other mid-size pick up or SUV or Mini van do this. I tow my race car all over with a 4wheeler in the back. I go to non-designated camping areas all summer and go ski in the winter here in Colorado. All while driving comfortably for all low maintenance 306K miles. Not sure what more I could ask for. When I get a camper, I'll go buy a so called "real" truck". Until then, I'll keep non not a real truck.

  • @clarkkent9080
    @clarkkent9080 Před 2 lety +4

    Two negatives: I don't live in a snow belt and it only comes as AWD ($3,000 additional cost) and Honda is the only major manufactorer that still uses interference timing belt engines ($3,500 cost to replace. I am not interested in an additional $6500 cost in the first 100,000 mile ownership.

    • @broski6320
      @broski6320 Před 2 lety +2

      How is it $3k extra for AWD if you can't get the truck without it? That is an illogical statement, it can't be an additional charge if it's included in the price of every model. That's like saying having an engine in your truck is a $6k extra

    • @clarkkent9080
      @clarkkent9080 Před 2 lety +2

      The 2020 Ridgeline had AWD as a $3,400 option. Being that it is no longer an option, they raised the price $3,400 and require all buyers to accept something that required additional maintenence, decreases fuel economy (see 2020 MPG ratings), and serves no purpose for those of us not living in a snow belt. Does that make sense?

  • @tomgoggin3865
    @tomgoggin3865 Před 2 lety +1

    The Ridgeline does most things very well and has a respectable level of consumer satisfaction, so the evidence speaks for itself. The zings and arrows about it should be able to tow XYZ pounds, or be able to carry 100 sheets of 12' drywall (or whatever) are hideous cheap shots.

    • @Xmvw2X
      @Xmvw2X Před 2 lety +3

      Yep. Super comfy garbage with industry leading ergonomics and plush ride with no load (and entirely competent ride fully loaded) that soaks up most bumps to the point where it's more Cadillac than truck. This is the one aspect that really stands out when comparing it to both other midsize trucks as well as full size trucks. I don't think we'll really see big trucks seriously compete in this realm until we see manufacturers start to use magnetic dampers in them. Air ride can help a bit, but the instant the the first manufacturer introduces magnetic damping into their full size truck line is the day they win the ride category of all trucks made.
      5000 lbs isn't a lot though, but it's a bump up from most SUVs topping out at 3500 lbs. You can at least tow a good sized boat or a small car with this thing. Although, it could use a couple thousand more to compete against others in its segment. The engine isn't stressed hauling 5000 lbs. It just doesn't really have the heft to manage a lot of weight behind it. Even so, the Frontier gets away with a bit higher rating at a similar weight. But, big loads need big trucks, no way around that. It's always a question of fit, and that's what people need to ask themselves. How much is needed for what they intend to actually do with the thing. For a lot of folks, they just don't actually do that much, like ever.
      There's other factors to consider too like mpg and general cost of using the thing, or how easy it fits into a garage or park while shopping. The mid size range has its niche for these kinds of factors. And the Honda has its niche for being one of the most modern feeling products made in the segment. Simply put, everything else in the segment just feels dated and old tech. Toyota and finally Nissan did some great refreshes, but it's interesting what happens when you actually drive all these products (including full size) back to back. The Honda stands out at being the only thing that feels current. Everything else feels like refreshed old chassis, and refreshed to various degrees of competency.
      Personally, I'm looking forwards to hybridization. This is slow to come, but seeing something like the Toyota Tundra come with hybrid is exciting. I'm personally not on board with full EV yet. They really need the infrastructure developed first, and no one is stepping up and making it a civil project. Plus climate has some constraints towards that since battery powered anything at -40°F is not a good thing.
