    the price is overwhelming , starting at $2,300 with QHD with no GPU, while there are contendors such as G14, Asus zenbook 14 pro, unless your office is paying for, it is a bad deal.
    as an architect, I am always looking for 3 things in a new laptop portability, perfomance enough to handle BIM-CAD softwares and some once a week rendering of moderate project, at the same time affordable. Dell most of the time doesn't tick all the boxes. ASUS always deliver in that realm.

      @@robinwatson4282 The point I am making is if you think about budget side of things, It should not be someone's first choice. Saying that If someone can afford it There is not reason not to buy it. You just have to make an informed decision. Some buy Rolls-Royce cars while other buy Honda civic. There is not good or wrong but, just a matter of context.

      @@robinwatson4282 I'm pretty sure the takeaway is more the fact that most other brand is selling a better laptop in terms of performance and in some cases even better build quality and features, for half the price. To the point where a razer would probably be cheaper. 1499 for not even a half decent graphics card is abysmal. I was going to buy the 4060 version of the xps 14 but then I realized. I could save 1500 dollars by just changing the brand. The 4060 isn't going to be underpowered as hell and it will actually have decent battery life. Just saying "oh youre poor so you can't buy it" does not solve any issues and is not, in any remote sense of the term, a logical argument. Please improve yourself and pull your head out of your ass. Not everyone has the absolute disdain for money that you do.

    Thanks for all your time you spent on it to give us your nice reviews! For the display itself I wouldn't have given it 10 out of 10 due to the noticeable Screen Door Effect (Aka moire pattern/graininess on screen with light colours) ... If that wasn't there and still have the touch layer a 9,5... and with pen support a 10 ;)

    • @marcusst8809
      @marcusst8809 Před měsícem

      @@cameronbosch1213 Well, some care, some don't. That's an individual choice.
      I don't need ports that I don't use, just for "having them". I haven't used the headphone jack on my XPS 13 or MB Air 2020 once. The only thing I sometimes use is the Micro SD card reader on the XPS. The MB Air 2020 doesn't have one.
      Sure, an USB A port would be nice...but that's also not a deal breaker for me.

    • @cameronbosch1213
      @cameronbosch1213 Před měsícem

      @marcusst8809 Then you'll likely not need something like an XPS. Something like an HP Spectre 14 is cheaper and better imo.

    • @marcusst8809
      @marcusst8809 Před měsícem

      @@cameronbosch1213 also that depends on use case and personal preference.
      The Fn + Lock choice on the HPs is for me a much bigger issue than the capacitive function row. HP devices have huge issues with Linux. Dell BIOS is in my experience much better and polished, especially the thermal and Cpu management. The XPS Displays have so far been a significant amount brighter than the spectres. I've always had issues with HP touchpads. They often came lose after a while and became wobbely.
      And last but not least, I am quite pleased with the Dragonfly Look & Feel of my work laptop, but...my private XPS 9310 is just another level. I even do prefer it over the MacBook (which unfortunately has the worst keyboard of the 3 and sounds and feels shallow). The XPS just feels the most premium of all of them...and it is a factor for me.
      And I don't mind the price gap as long as the experience is there. I do love the battery runtime of the Dragonfly though. It is for sure not on the MB Air level but way better then the XPS...
      Therefore I am very much looking forward to the XPS 13 review with the new Intel processors combined with the 2k screen.

    Awesome and honest review. Much appreciated!💯
    I am a coder and I have been using an XPS 7590 for 5 years now. I am absolutely in love with it. Pretty sure my next laptop is going to be an XPS as well.
    Some really long term observations:
    - I have not observed any burn ins on my OLED screen.
    - Everything still works perfectly I mean the ports, the keyboard, the trackpad, the backlight, the screen.
    - performance has degraded a little bit but I think a cleanup should fix it.
    - the only problem I am facing since very recently is frequent BSODs. This is usually but not always complimented by the laptop heating up. A friend who has a newer xps model mentioned that he was facing the same issue and both of us agreed that this happened after a recent windows update. His problem went away after another windows update but mine hasn’t yet. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know.
    The absence of a physical ESC key is definitely a turn off for me as a coder but I have a monitor setup and I usually do all my typing on an external keyboard so shouldn’t be that bad.
    I love the XPS lineup since it has proven to be very reliable for me.
    Thanks Andrew and keep up the good work!!👍🏼

It pains me to say this as a long time dell user who had planned to get this, but No, even with the shallow price reduction dell is still taking the piss with this by pricing it exactly like the m3 pro which floors it in most practical metrics ( if not all ). I've had a XPS-13 since 2016 (high resolution OLED!) and loved it. It aged well. 3 batteries and a new palm rest (got sticky) later it was time for an upgrade. Ultimately the 2 core CPU just didn't do well today. No screen burn in over 8 years. Alas I am a software developer and lack of a function key row was a deal breaker. That's a legitimate problem for some people like myself. They should correct this and I would have bought this one even if it is almost $1K more.
    The old XPS still looks great next to my new laptop (ended up with HP Spectre-14 which is one of many competitors today) and I expect the new one to hold up equally well. 14 inches is the better size.

I seriously considered an older XPS-15 with a function row. The 14" screen is also taller than the XPS-13 16:10 which helps. The key combinations do work though if you press shift first and then Fn (but not the other way around). But in a normal, fast typing flow, the result is not predictable.
      Everyone is complaining about the touch function row on the XPS...even though most will barely use it. But compared to the Fn-Lock situation on the spectre (and dragonfly), the capacitive buttons are unfortunately a smaller issue in my opinion...

    Nice laptop. Camera and mics are good. It goes to show if they could put a 1080 camera in this laptop they probably could have put a 1080 camera in their previous years' models. Do not care for the capacitive row. Display is very good. Speakers do get loud no doubt but the sound at that level sounded a little distorted. Probably at a slightly lower volume distortion would not be there. I think Dell purposely priced these with a higher list price then lowered the list price so potential buyers would think they are getting a "great" deal on these. I think it is a pychological move Dell made to increase sales on these. This still might be a little pricey but do not get me wrong this is still a very nice pc. Grea review

    When people say this is a terrible laptop or bad move by Dell..., what they really mean is just that it's not for THEM. I don't know why it's hard for people understand laptops are very subjective. For example, the most common complaint I see about all laptop reviews, is non-removable RAM. But I don't give a freaking crap about removable or not RAM, and im a huge laptop buff!
    I guarantee the new XPS will still sell hundreds of thousands of units to people that love it and don't have any complaints about the touchbar or keyboard. And yeah dell has high prices, but they come down quickly overtime, and for some people, price is not as important as being happy with the laptop. it's a premium model. Its not a bad laptop, its either for you or not.

    I am honestly embrassed by how many reviewers seem to be reviewing this so falsely positive in such an out of touch way.
    There are so many problems with the 2024 XPS laptops that I don't even know where to start. But I'll try.
    1. The design is going to be divisive. I personally dont like it, but I'll admit that this point is very subjective, so _your_ mileage may vary.
    2. Get rid of the touch row. There's no good reason to have it when control alt delete is an important key combination and escape is used so often that even Apple had to bring that key out of the touch bar as a physical key before they finally killed the touch bar altogether.
    3. That invisible touchpad is not only frustrating to use, if you have vision problems, you literally cannot use this laptop. Also, the touchpad once again seems to have QC issues, as shown by Just Josh's review, where his XPS 16's was horrible and the XPS 14's was not as bad.
    4. The port selection, especially on the XPS 13 and 16, is embarrassing. The 13 doesn't have enough ports at all and the 16 should have a full sized SD card slot, not a microSD card slot. I mean, even Apple reversed course on this!
    5. Why does the XPS 13 & 16 get Wi-Fi 7 but not the 14? Dell, fix that shit immediately; give the XPS 14 Wi-Fi 7!
    6. The upgradability, particularly on the XPS 16, is a massive downgrade from the XPS 15/17. Not only is all of the RAM soldered, but there's now only one SSD slot instead of two. This is a massive issue for people like me who might have wanted to dual boot thd system without having to partition a drive, because to upgrade to a bigger drive requires cloning the SSD or reinstalling Windows. Not to mention how expensive RAM upgrades are, especially for 64 GB.
    7. The performance on the XPS 16 is embarrassing. Not only is the GPU super low wattage on the 14 & 16, but the 16 no longer has an RTX GPU with more than 8 GB of vRAM. This leads me to my final point.
    8. The XPS lineup feels like Dell's MacBook Air alternative, not a MacBook Pro alternative.
    Dell needs to completely change course on this laptop series, because they're in for a rude awakening if they don't.

    I'm surprised some reviews were so much more negative than this one. If you frame it as something smaller than the MacBook Air being more performant in many ways than the M3 Pro MacBook Pro, it's an impressive package. Somewhat worse battery life but that's what you can do with Intel right now, and it's still a workday for most people.

    As someone who has 2023 xps 15 and a dell latitude 9440 I do not like the Haptic Touch pad and prefer the more conventional touch pad. You cannot easily use the haptic tp with one hand. On the other hand I do love the zero lattice keyboard more. The ones talking about battery life… the xps has never had that for its strength except the older 13in models. If you want battery life don’t do the 3k oled display. The touchbar is a misstep but you definitely get used to it. Also you cannot compare this to a MacBook. The xps is much more versatile than a mac

    With the battery life upgrade and three ports, Dell have finally fixed the XPS 13, well done Dell. The removal of the esc key is bizarre but on the flip side Dell managed to fit a 4050. Against the Spectre, you’d really need that 4050 to go for the XPS, against the Macbook Pro, you’d have to really want the Mac to justify it. A three way test at the 32Gb\2TB level would be good. The ASUS is a competent machine but I doubt the support is good enough.

    The only thing this laptop lacks for 100% happiness is no 2-in-1 design and no pen support. In this respect, I would lean towards the HP Spectre x360, but I am willing to sacrifice this functionality for Dell, planning to purchase the XPS 9440 in July. Why? Because I don't trust any other brand. Only Dell offers such great durability, stability and, above all, EXTRAORDINARY WARRANTY SERVICE! It is not without reason that most global corporations use Dell equipment.

    Dell laptops are not bad and the 2024 Dell XPS 14 (9440) is a perfect example of that. The best time to order any Dell laptop is when they go on sale as Dell periodically runs sales on their website. This laptop has a lot going for it from a beautiful design with the extra thin bezels to a gorgeous 3.2K OLED display, a 120Hz refresh rate and finally a 1080p webcam which is crystal clear as well as the internal mics. The RAM is unfortunately soldered in but at least it's the faster RAM. Your best bet with the RAM is to make sure you upgrade to the 32GB version during the ordering process. You do get the option at least to upgrade the SSD though. While the internal quad speakers are good for a Windows machine, however, it is still not a match to the MacBook Pro which is the king of speaker sound. In closing, the 2024 Dell XPS 14 (9440) laptop is certainly worth your consideration. Excellent work Andrew!! 👍😁
