*Pricing is still being finalized, but as of the recording of this review, the Spectre x360 14’s starting price is $1,650. Presumably, that’s for the entry-level configuration of an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. My review configuration with a Core Ultra 7 155H, 32GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD is $1,970, which would be a very reasonable price for a heavily upgraded machine

I appreciate that!
nice video review!
1 suggestion could be to look at perf (and comparison) when unplugged / running on battery v.s. when using AC
Your style of reviewing the laptop is outstanding.. Like showcase by opening the backlid of laptop, also audio caparison with industry standard macbook.... Well done.. Keep it up 👍
Thanks 🙏
Thanks Andrew once again for your quality review of the 2024 Spectre. I bought the 2022 Spectre with the 13.5 OLED display (3000x2000) and the 1255U based on your review and my research and have been happy with it. The 2024 has many improvements I like, such as the 14" OLED display (16x10), speakers next to the keyboard and stronger processer. Looks very appealing for perhaps an upgrade.
This Spectre looks gorgeous. I hope the thermals to be way better than the previous editions and that the fans don't make much noise.
Excellent detailed Test. Thank you very much. I think I now know what I need.
Great job, as always, Andrew! A real joy and life-saving videos you make. Really grateful for that! Keep it up! I wait for Lenovo new 2024 laptop line, curious about what do they have in store for us.
Great review as usual. Wish you cover the pen performance when it comes for typing and drawing when you review 2 in one laptops. 🎉🎉 Keep up the great work
Such a massive improvement: I love it, didn't mind the 3:2 aspect ratio from last year that much though
This looks amazing! Thanks for the very in-depth review, just ordered mine thanks to your review :)
Appreciate that !
Where Did You Order Yours And How Much?
Hey Andrew, great review! I just received a customized Spectre but I got several blue screen errors and the laptop wouldn't even load for the first time. Surprisingly, this is the second Spectre I've purchased (prior gen) with the same issue. Wonder if anyone has had similar issues? I'm returning mine but I appreciate your thoughtful comparison to other laptops, your insights are spot on!
Indepth review as always. Thanks Andrew.
As always, love your videos!!! Did this newer 2.8k 120hz Oled panel have the same Screen Door Effect like previous generations and a lot of other touch related OLED screens? Because that was the thing that was bothering me most in previous generations. This is especially noticible on white & gray background and lite colors. And for some like me very annoying! In the video it seems that black on the OLED screen isn't black but had rather green-grayisch film over it, is it due to the filming? Or some sort of Antireflective cote ? Thanks!!!
So my take on the 16 inch version so far (1800p OLED, 16/1tb, 4050 55W). I quite like it but it’s not quite as good as I’d hoped in certain areas. First of all, the display: it’s pretty good, gets decently bright, but as with HP their touchscreen OLED displays have this visible ‘haze’ when you look up close. The best way of putting it is that it looks like there’s always ‘noise’ in the display, but from a normal viewing distance, you don’t really notice it. 120HZ, and apparently G-SYNC compatible thanks to the 4050, but haven’t found a setting to suggest that. Pleasant screen to use, but I wished it got dimmer. My Latitude 9330 reaches as low as 0.9 nits which is 1 nits lower than my iPhone, it’s so dim to the point where I’m struggling to see the display when it’s pitch black.
Performance: whilst the Ultra 7 155H is good, I wasn’t expecting the fans to keep intermittently engaging. What makes things worse is the power modes are all over the place. Let’s talk about unplugged: high performance tends to result in the least fan noise, whilst Smart Sense and Balanced engage the fans far more often. Here’s the thing, power saving mode maxes out the fans! There is definitely a bit of work HP need to here. When the laptop’s plugged in, the power modes make more sense.
4050: it’s a low power variant (55W according to Nvidia’s Control Panel) but I’ve found gaming performance to be quite decent. For games that support DLSS 3, it’s going to easily beat a 3050 Ti (85W), but for those without, the 3050 Ti wins, and it’s a sizeable win for some games like TF2. The system cools really well, playing TF2 whilst connected to an external monitor uncapped, and GPU temps don’t even exceed 55 degrees, and the fans are unbelievably quiet (performance mode). They have a higher pitch to them, and more so at lower speeds, hence why I don’t like them turning on and off constantly.
Keyboard and Trackpad: Personally I prefer the Envy 15 x360 OLED keyboard, it just has more travel and is more satisfying to type on, but the one featured on this laptop is still very good. Trackpad is massive, glass but palm rejection isn’t the best. Haptics are quite nice.
Speakers: Honestly a disappointment. My 13.3 inch Latitude 9330 sounds far better. Much greater depth and the clarity of voices is better as well. By the size of the speaker cutouts on the front edge, I would have expected a much beefier system, but they’re nothing special. Not that I own the Envy anymore because of the 1080p OLED display which I deemed too low res when drawing, but the speakers on that were better. You can probably infer that a laptop’s speakers are quite important to me, and it certainly won’t be the case for many others.
Also to mention is the high RAM usage. Even with 16GB of soldered memory (the 32GB option was £300 more at the time I pre ordered) it gets used up an awful lot by HP software/bloatware. I uninstalled the OMEN hub because that was pointless, and would take up around 400MB all the time. Removing that and McAfee the situation has improved a little.
Webcam: Not sure what the hype is honestly. It’s 9MP, sure, but my latitude 2MP webcam is more colour accurate, and looks as sharp if not more so 😅.
It still dunks on Dell’s XPS offerings though, so there’s that!
Microphones are excellent.
I’m still choosing to keep it thanks to its form factor and the fact it plays games well without overheating at all. From looking at the underside, it doesn’t look much different to a Victus machine with the same dual fans side by side.
My overall rating would probably be a 7/10, for the money.
Improvement points, speakers are comparatively weak to even 13 inch premium convertibles like my Latitude, and so better speakers would be nice. Fan curves are odd and power modes are all over the place.
Great video again, thanks Joseph
Niiice, thanks for the great review AMD!
I’m surprised the dongle they included doesn’t have an SD card reader, I think they missed an opportunity to make up for it missing from the device itself.
Other than that this ticks all the boxes on my wish list I mentioned in the comments of the thinkpad z14 unboxing - oled convertible with 32gb of ram (you didn’t underline just how stupid fast that ram is clocked to by the way, 7466 is crazy good and helps with igpu) that can do hardware AV1 encoding - something not yet available with a ryzen 7040 or 8040.
Love it. Will wait a bit to see what other manufacturers come up with but unless someone does all this AND includes the SD reader then this is the one for me :))) 👌
this just replaced my apple silicon mac and ipad combo- im IN LOVEEEE
In your reviews of 2 in 1's please include a diagonal line test, where you draw a diagonal line with a plastic ruler or freehand at different speeds.
Many 2 in 1's struggle with this due to emissions and digitizer. Interested to see how new spectre holds up to this otherwise very good review.
Palm rejection mentions is a plus as well.
Wifi 7, BT 5.4, D.p 2.1. OLED at 120hz. Top tier specs.
Best combination of video and (spoken) audio I've seen/heard so far: crisp clear video, natural colors, no sound dropouts.
Thanks 🙏
Great work as usuall Marc, can't wait to see a new x1 Carbon gen 12!
Can't wait!
As always excellent review! Excellent laptop by HP. Perhaps you can review the new 16” Spectre!
Awesome review! Do you have any insight into how the battery performs when the screen is set to 60hz as opposed to the 120hz mode?
This is perhaps my best review... Very beautiful work.... Saving up to get this.
Thanks 🙏
Excellent review! Seems like it got a few nice upgrades!
Thanks! 👍
Great review as usual. Thank you, Marc! Now, every reviewer and their dogs talk about one finger lid opening... This is absolutely unnecessary IMO. To me, a strong, tight, wobbling-free hinge which is not so easily opened by one finger is an advantage of a laptop, not its negative quality.
thanks a lot for the review, Im really wondering about low brightness PWM, could you check this out please? Its been tough for me to try and find good oled laptops
Great review! i am wondering is the 14 inch come with midnight black?
A top-notch and leading laptop reviewer on CZcams, delivering insightful and clutter-free analyses. Please also review the 16 inch model once that is avaliable.
Thanks 🙏
Second this request. 14's are just too small for my eyes
Thank you for the review!
I just pre-ordered the 16 inch model with a 4050. £1600 is a lot don't get me wrong, but i'm partial to HPs keyboards; they are quite literally my favourite, excellent comfort for long typing sessions. Delivery in 10-15 days.
Why is the 14” 16GB 1TB more????
Please advise
@@lifestylewithsleekyj Mine was 32g
A great review. You are doing well.
I wish you talked more about the drawing experience: Pen technology, line wobble, hooking, etc. as I think artists are some of the main audience for 2-in-1s. Otherwise, great review!
Webcam audio is fantastic! I hope they got rid of the sharp edges around the chassis.
nice piece, if pricing are similar, do you recommand the hp spectre x360 14 or lenovo slim 9i? thank you.
How was the editing process in Davinci resolve with the laptop? Thank you for the render times, but the editing process would be nice to hear more about that you experienced.
Way FASTER than AMD. Check hardware Canucks preproduction unit review of Zenbook 14 with ULTRA 7 155H.
I've been using 2 spectre x360 so far (2017 and 2021), also recommended for a few friends of mine. Everything is nice except for the battery (great at first but wear out real quick, the current one that i am using can no longer be active after just 2 years 😂) and the SSD (1-2 years and your device might refuse to start up all of sudden).
Customer service is not very responsive, and Smart Charging feature is nowhere to be found (such a shame for a hi-end laptop).
Still love it for the gorgeous design and the versality, but im switching brand right now 😅
Great video! Is the finish prone to fingerprints? Tempted by the Nightfall Black variant but if it's just gonna look full of fingerprints, might as well go for a Silver look!
Fingerprints not too much of an issue with the Slate Blue.
Excellent review as always.
I appreciate that
Great review. Mine didn’t come with a pen. What model HP pen is included with the one reviewed?
Hi Andrew, I love your videos, very informative in choosing the right laptop workstation, I was wondering if you are going to do a video on new 2024 Dell precision 3591 or 5490.
Yes, soon
3:2 aspect ratio was what made it special. Most other laptops and convertibles are 16:10 these days. I'll never understand this "argument" that you'll have black bars on the top and bottom when watching media. That's the case with every aspect ratio, even with the terrible 16:9 aspect ratio. On an OLED it matters even less since it's just completely black anyways. For office work, Internet browsing etc. 3:2 aspect ratio is just way better.
Totally agree. We keep getting strong horizontal screens forced on us. 3:2 is what made this machine special.
100% Facts. Laptop makers seem to forget that adults use their laptops primarily for work, not entertainment.
Hi Andrew, what device are you using to measure the display's color characteristics? @ 8:15
A top-tier laptop without 2 USB-A ports and an SD card reader is just not my cup of tea. Why do I need to carry a bag full of dongles just to plug everything in it? In some ways, new laptops are just like tablets with keyboards.
But they are providing dongles for all the extra load, which is a thoughtful and smart move.
My hatred for dongles personally is in the fact that if you happen to forget the dongle at your house, school, wherever, you may not be able to use what you need even if you have like the regular earphones with wire. It's not exclusive to laptops it's phones too.@@nikhilpandey3985
@@nikhilpandey3985 they're not though. They only sent the dongles to the reviewers
Bro, coud you please do PWM test for every OLED display laptop from now on?
Looking forward to the 16inch review
Does the power button work in stand mode, when the keyboard is facing down? The spectre 2018 had a power button in the corner gemcut which was brilliant as you have access to it in any mode...
Please, really need to know if the sound from speakers suffers in different laptop modes .. tent mode, tablet, etc

Thank you, really appreciate it.
Would be interesting to compare to similarly equipped Dell XPS 14 (2024 version)
Great review thanks Andrew. Love my 2023 spectre. The only weak point for me are the the speakers - they're muddy, slightly tinny & lack bass. However unlike previous generations of spectre x360, they don't rattle! Which is more than something. For what I use it for I don't need the extra multicore performance of the 2024, so the upgrade wouldn't be worth it for me (nicer speakers aside). But I think if I was coming from an earlier model (11th gen or below) this would be a very fine & worthy upgrade on every level!
It looks like the upgrade makes a big improvement of battery life with the OLED display
@@joliettt sorry if you got the message I deleted a second ago. I was replying to the wrong one. That's good re battery life.
As a spectre 16' 2023 owner waiting for comparisons with 2024 vs 2023 16' models.
Hello, I just took this same notebook 2 days ago, it has a very noticeable screendoor effect. Did you notice it too? Very heavy on white and light colours in general. Almost not noticeable at all on darks
Surrender in the background, good man! Great video, tfs! 👍🏻
How well do these do when using the laptop screen AND a 4K monitor? Seems like that could be a thing some do better than others.
I wish you covered some light gaming too since you gave info about how much it drains the battery in the related section. Overall a great review though, my first yime watching one of your reviews and this one was through and detailed besides what I mentioned previously. Although it is understandable since this is not meant for gaming but I am specifically looking for a device for college that can also handle some light gaming just incase I decide to give that a shot since I used to game my whole life except for the last year.
*time
Damn this checks off about every box for me, 120 hz! Dedicated Graphics! (I dont need Nvdia level graphics). I do wish it went on a diet, lost a little weight, as 3 and quarter pounds is kinda heavy for a "Ultra Book", I think it needs to be 3 pounds max. But I can deal with that for these specs.
I just bought the HP Spectre x360 14 inch 32gb 2tb, great laptop no fan noise at all, only turn them on when I am charging the laptop. Battery life is still a bit of a guess for me, but I think around 10/11 hours with normal use in internet and Microsoft apps. Thank you for this video! Choose this one because of your excellent video.
Hi Andrew, saw you liked my message. Quick question, I have the brightness on 40% and battery saver mode on. With this I guess I can get around max 10 hours while your video says 13 hours. I like to have my screen brighter, are there other improvements to make while having a brighter screen?
sir i ask one question which laptop is better this laptop which you are review in this video or asus zenbook 14 flip oled please sir tell me
From what I heard the speakers sound close to the MacBook. Certainly very good in Comparison to the six speakers on the MacBook. Thanks for a very informative review.
When comparing speakers it is of utmost important that the sound level of both speakers (including at each frequency tested. But that's another issue) are exactly the same. Otherwise the louder speaker will almost always sound better. Ie . Bose.
The sound quality appears to be the same in both HP Spectre 360 and MacBook Pro.
I appreciate the total weight part, but for laptops that can be charged with "normal" travel USB-C charger (35W -> 65W), practically we can ignore the charger because folks would have at least one of such charger when on the road for phone and other stuff. But that is not true for "gaming laptop" or workstation laptop that requires 230W+ power bricks.
What's the deterrence between 1TB M.2 SSD and 2TB TLC M.2 models?
Please make a video on the latest MSI laptops (intel ultra processors).
Solid computer very excited to see more
Is it fully compatible with Linux? Also it seems like that touchpad might interfere with typing since it extends quite a bit to the right side, covering the control and alt keys on the right.
I am confused between Asus Zenbook 14 and Spectre x360 (both Ultra 7 with 32 GB). In India, Spectre x360 is INR 45,000/- (approx. 550 USD / 425 GBP) costlier. Is the Spectre worth the extra money ?
Cannot decide between Spectre x360, asus zenbook 14 oled and msi 13 ai evo. HP and Asus are both same price, msi is cheapear around 300usd in my country, which should i choose?
This seems the best option so far with a new 14th Intel from all the brands that put an option out.
Hi can you tell how do use various apps eg. the illustrator which is a replica of the ipad feature in this HP x360.
Is this better than the new Zenbook 14 OLED?
Those cutouts with ports at the edges looks pretty sharp. Problem?
Comparison between the galaxy bool 4 pro 360 and the HP Spectre x360 16" (2024), please 🙏
GOOD VIDEO, Greetings.
Those speakers are INCREDIBLE?!!!
Wonder how it will compare with the new Dell 2 in 1 XPS 13" Core processor or the new Surface Pro 10. What would be the Lenovo equivalent?
How's the screen after a using this for a while? I heard it's very prone to scratches from the keyboard and palm rest. Is it true?
Between this and the asus zenbook 14 2024 (Intel variant), which one would you recommend?
In the official release on HP and BestBuy they state WiFi 6E and no mention of the dongles. HP site mentions the pen but not BestBuy?
Yep, just bought it at Best Buy and it does indeed come with WIFI 6E
Funny, that HP had added speaker grills on the sides of the keyboard, while Lenovo did the exact opposite with thr X1C G12. Win for HP in my book.
great job. thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks thanks a lot Sir. You again proved that you are the best. Other reviewers should learn from you.
Intel Core ULTRA(METEOR Lake) again is the most efficient chip for Windows laptops and also FASTEST in video editing, etc content creation and also FASTEST iGPU for gaming.
HP spectre or Zenbook 14 or any other Intel EVO laptop.
Now we can proudly say Windows laptops has MacBook level of BATTERY LIFE, all thanks to Intel.
I'm really liking how these laptops keep improving year to year and the 2024 HP Spectre x360 14 is no exception! Everything about this laptop is great to me but if I had to nitpick it, it would be the very glossy display which may be a bummer for some. Other than that, I like the Bright OLED display and the 1440p webcam as well as the internal mics with noise suppression. I also like the fact that you can configure this to a max of 32GB of soldered RAM. I was also blown away by how good the internal speakers sound. While it is still not a match for the MacBook Pro's, it does come very close to it. I guess the speaker grilles on each side of the keyboard helps in this regard. Excellent laptop for 2024 and Excellent review as always Andrew! Thank you!! 👍😁
Thanks Rafael!
Is it really that glossy? It claims to have an anti glare screen and eye safe certificate.
looking forward to see some great GPU based laptops of 2024,. from the new CES..
can you review the vivobook 15 pro oled pls? i don’t find any good review on youtube
Still looking good in this new unit, just hoping that HP could apply 64GB RAM option
Thanks Andrew for your Contributions in the Consumer Electronics community. Always the first 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks 🙏
Man, I'm just giving into these laptop manufacturer's now, think my the days of dedicated cameras are coming to an end for me, since all the laptops I like don't come with SD card readers anymore! I wish HP would have included an SD card reader on that dongle they gave. Maybe there'll be a dongle upgrade option?? lol.
I preferred the gold frame and hinges, etc. Those are what made it stand out and feel more premium to me.
That's exactly how I feel about the Dell XPS carbon fiber look that they apparently have ditched much to my dismay. I almost got that one just because of the looks. But I went with a 16-inch HP Specter and I have no regrets
I'm at the opposite. I'm interested in this laptop now that the gold is gone :D
What would u recommend for a student for year 9 we need a computer I was thinking between a m3 mac air with 16 ram 512 GB or the HP 14 with the same stuff? I also need that it last long over time like a computer that can last me 6 years
Can someone please suggest which colour looks better for spectre - blue or black?
my next buy lsptop is gonna come from this channel reviews
can we use Ubuntu along with the tablet feature?
Would love it if you could compare this to the lenovo 9i 2 in 1 2024
I really like the 2023 model and have no complaints after nine months. There are some real upgrades to this year's addition that I would buy in a heartbeat if I needed one.
Hello, is there any problem that is characteristic of these hp specter laptops? I plan to buy one, but I don't know what to be careful about when buying laptops from this series.
@@lamillalamilla1 They used to be almost too thin so battery life was average. HP has improved this immensely. For the 2023 model, it is a strength.
Does anyone know if the M.2 slot can accommodate double-sided SSDs?
Thanks,
I was waiting for this, i need HP 14, OLED 120 FPS, wow
Intel + Arc
No problem!
Is there extra slot for SSD?
Please review Samsung galaxy book 4 x360 (2024) and compare with HP spectre x360 (2024)
In my opinion, the problem with HP laptops is not the features but that I've never had on last a full year.
Were you able to tell if this model has the OLED grid/screen door effect that the Asus OLED touch laptops have? I'm returning my Asus because of this issue and I'm really interested in this computer so long as it doesn't have the same screen problem
I would love to know this too, seems are few people are reporting the grid issue on reddit.
