NARROWBOAT Living - UK’s 3rd Longest TUNNEL! Gayton to Stoke Bruerne! Ep60

- This week’s video sees us leaving Gayton Junction and go onto the Grand Union canal. We cruise our NARROWBOAT floating home through some lovely scenery and on to the UK’s 3rd longest TUNNEL. The tunnel is very cold, damp snd eerie, but so so busy, we pass many boats going the other way. I try to explain how the tunnel was repaired years ago by using pre-cast concrete in a unique way. Once through the tunnel, we cruise on to Stoke Bruerne, where we moor up for a couple of days. We take a look around the CANAL museum too.
Hope you enjoy this week’s vlog! xx 😃

Aww that’s lovely, thank you, lovely to have you with us Diane and David xx
I'm not usually claustrophobic, but man-oh-man, that tunnel was soooooooo long! I was quite ready for the end of it, and I wasn't even really there! Stoke Bruerne is such a lovely reward for making it through the tunnel, with its interesting museum, cafe, and other features; the ice cream looked delicious! I hope you two had a lovely couple of days there, enjoying the ambience and offerings.
Hi Chris, yes that tunnel seemed to go on forever, and we couldn’t believe how many boats we passed going the other way! Stoke Bruerne was lovely, we’ll definitely try to stop there again on our way back soon. Thanks Chris! xx
Best horn ever! 🎺📣
😂😂Haha that made us laugh! Martin’s pride and joy lol. Thanks Tom! xx

Aww thank you so much Dave xx
So beautiful - fabulous reflections and all those wonderful views. The tunnel was rather long and very wet, but it was an achievement for you!! Love your videos, thank you 😊
Thank you Mishka, it was a very long tunnel, felt like it went on forever! Thank you for your lovely comment xx
What a beautiful video! Lovely weather and scenery!
Aww thank you so much Ann, it makes it all worthwhile to get comments like this, thank you! xx
What a beautiful cruise! That will be us soon 😊. Can’t believe there was so much traffic in the tunnel!!! 😳
Aww thank you! Martin did well didn’t he, we seemed to be in that tunnel forever! Looking forward to seeing you both …. and of course Poppy & Hamish xx
Thank you for sharing your adventure! That's quite the tunnel. Thank you for taking me along. Cheers!
Hi Dan, yes, that tunnel seemed to go on forever lol. Thank you! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB You're very welcome!
That canal is lovely and wide. The bridge looked the same colour as your boat. That light should have been angled down. Hope you guys are good xx
Hiya matey, yes we’re all good, well I’m nursing a poorly foot, but apart from that all good 😃👍 Hope you’re both ok, hopefully see you soon xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB oh no. Hope it gets better soon and yeah, can’t wait until we catch up again xx
6 boats!! Well done Martin, not one knock.
Aww thank you Wendy, he’s good isn’t he! 🥰 And he really doesn’t like tunnels 🫣xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB well, I wouldn’t have known! ❤️
Thanks for the vlog Julie reminded us of ten years ago when we got a boat from gayton marina and went through the Blisworth Tunnel with both our sons. Find it so funny how you refer to your husband mostly Mate! Then Darling 😂
Lol, we’ve always referred to each other as Mate, but when we were in the tunnel, I called him Darling as I know he really doesn’t like tunnels, so was being extra nice 🥰 Hope you’re both well xx
Neat ride on that lake. And is that where u could drive a bit faster. Sure r alot of swans.
The lake was stunning! You can go a bit faster on rivers, but to be honest we love going at a snail’s pace lol. You’re right there were a lot of swans on the river. xx
the toner is really long it takes you about thirty two minutes to get through it and it is very very wet wet wet wet in there so you gonna get salt but i'll enjoy going through it love dave
Yes, that tunnel is very wet! I love the tunnels, but Martin doesn’t like being in them, he goes faster so we can get out quicker lol 😂 Thanks Dave! xx
Thank you very much for sharing take care you2
Aww thanks Lilo, we love seeing your comment every week 🥰 xx
Xx
Thank you Edward xx
vlad and niki on chugga bug and the life of amy are all in the same area as you so you might meet up with each other
Hi Dave, we met up with them all at the Crick boat show, it was lovely to see them all. Gary, Nicky and the kids and Steve & Christine, lovely friends xx
I dont like tunnels i can go over high aqueducts no problem the Harecastle is the worst i have done.
Were down the Montgomery canal again moored right at the bottom Gronwin wharfe there is no one here and there is no where for two miles towards here so there are no other boats within 2 miles of us a first 😮
We haven’t done Harecastle yet, it’s on our list for next year 😃 wow, you’re nice and remote 👍 mind you, we’re on the Aylesbury Arm and haven’t seen another boat for 3 days now lol, no-one comes down here which is a shame as it’s lovely. It’s nice and quiet, but we are starting to miss people lol 😂 We’re resting for a few days to let the weather improve and to allow my foot to recover (broken a toe or two) Hoping to start moving again on Saturday. xx
That canal looks amazing but I would not like to travel through that tunnel
Haha Edward, that tunnel was a bit of a challenge, it just seemed to go on forever! The Grand Union canal is lovely, thank you Edward! xx
