- This video is very different from our usual NARROWBOAT vlogs. This is a one-off, it was a gift from someone special from our working days.
I (Julie) have been a fan of Elvis since I was small, and going to Graceland was at the very top of my bucket list! So this was a trip of a lifetime! Both of us had not been abroad since our honeymoon back in 1987, so although we were very excited, we were both scared of flying! You will see from the start that Martin especially, was terrified, but as the journey went on, we soon relaxed and by the second flight we were fine. We take a trip on the Mississippi River, visit Graceland and Sun Studio and get to do everything Elvis!! We went to the legendary Beale Street, home of the Blues, which was fantastic, and so so loud! We also go up a Pyramid with surprises in store, and views that we’re out of this world! The trip was only 6 days including travel, but we packed a lot in and had a great time! Oh, and not forgetting … we were actually recognised from our narrowboat vlogs over 4000 miles away, we were blown away!!
This was a truly amazing trip and we thought we would share it with you all!
Hope you enjoy this video, it’ll be back to the canals on Thursday as usual! xx 😃

Oh! Julie & Martin this is so awesome. Elvis Presley mansion, studio, cars, motorbikes, and Tennessee. I love it thanks so much. Thought I'd never see those gates of Graceland & his home. I only live 7hrs away in Virginia. So so happy to go along with you. My favorite camping store.
Hi Terry, it really was my dream come true! I had been longing to go to Graceland almost all my life, do to get there was just amazing! And that Pro Bass pyramid, just wow! We thoroughly enjoyed Memphis! You must go Terry! Thanks! xx
I managed to go to Graceland before a flight home from a business trip. Two things I remember very well was how small his house was and how tall a man he was. I think his shoe size was 14USA, which is very big. His costumes showed his height.. I am also surprised that you were such a great fan. I'm 80 and he was more my generation than yours, though his music lives on forever. Really enjoyed how much you captured of Memphis. How fortunate for you to have been given this as a gift. Jane, Philadelphia suburbs
Hi Jane, yes I was surprised at how tall Elvis was, but I was blown away at how emotional I was, I didn’t realise just how much I loved that man until then. I’ve loved Elvis since I was about 7yrs old, I was 12 when he died and I cried for a week, he was my first true love xx
I share the same birthday as Priscilla too 😃 Thank you so much Jane, loved reading your comment xx
What a great video Julie. It brought back so many memories of my trip to Memphis. You still managed to see things I didn’t! The Pyramid building looks amazing. Thanks for sharing your trip with us. ❤
Aww you’re welcome, thank you so much for your lovely comment! xx
What a fabulous vlog, and even more special because we know how excited you were to see your ‘other man’! Still can’t believe you were recognised by one of your viewers so far from home and the canals 😮
Aww thanks you two, it took ages to edit this one! 🥰 Aww the lovely Larry, we still can’t believe it either, we were totally blown away! And it was the morning of the day I finally got to go to Graceland, so made the day even more special! Thanks, see you soon xx
This adventure was absolutely amazing! Glad you both enjoyed your trip to the USA and Graceland. Love your vlogs. 🤗
Aww thank you so much Sharon, that means a lot xx
That was absolutely fantastic. Thanks for taking us along with you. So pleased your dream came true, to visit Graceland. I was very impressed that they named a street after Ian 😂. Big hugs ❤
😂😂😂 haha, took me a while to get that… Beale Street lol 😂 It was an amazing trip, so emotional at Graceland 🥺 One of our favourite places was that Pyramid, it was fantastic! Thanks Jude! xx
After our chats in the summer we knew how much you were looking forward to this trip of a lifetime....it was great to watch it from take off to the landing back home ....so pleased for you ...well done 😁
It really was amazing Paul, we went from being nervous and scared of flying, to loving every minute of it! Graceland was everything I’d dreamed of and so so emotional ❤️🩹 But Memphis itself was just fantastic, we really loved the Pyramid with that amazing view of Memphis and the Mississippi River! You would have loved the Bass Pro Shops, there was rows and rows of every type of fishing tackle imaginable!! 😃 Thanks matey! xx
I should never have watched this, now i have the travel bug again, glad you enjoyed your trip....
Haha, oops sorry! 😜 It was such a lovely place, the people of Downtown Memphis are so lovely, really welcoming, it was fantastic! Thanks Allan xx
That was a really fun vlog you guys! I saw Elvis in concert in 1975 or 1976 and it was so much fun! The summer of 1977 after graduation from college I traveled around the UK and discovered there was a lot of Elvis music played in pubs. 😊 Then on August 17 I woke up in the campground I was staying at in Wales and visited the toilets / showers and noticed a crowd of young women gathered around a newspaper. The headline was “The King is dead at 42” 😢 and at that moment I realized the huge impact Elvis had made on the world. You’ve visited Graceland but I never have. I was in Memphis for business once but didn’t have time to go to Graceland. Maybe one of these days my husband and I will head that way for a visit!
Hi Nancy, oh wow, you got to see Elvis live! I would have loved that! I still can’t believe that I’ve actually been to Graceland, it really was a dream come true! Thanks Nancy! xx
I enjoyed your trip to America very much! Thanks for sharing it with us!
So glad you enjoyed it Maryanne, thank you so much xx
So lovely Guys ❤ Thank you for sharing your journey with us ❤xxx
Hi Glenn, thank you so much for your lovely comment, so glad you enjoyed it xx
What a lovely trip and so nice to have you visit the USA ! You certainly did a lot and visited the uniquely American Bass Pro Shop Pyramid ! Thanks for another enjoyable Vlog !
Hi Deirdre, we loved the USA, the people of Memphis were so welcoming, and although Graceland and Sun Studio were the main reasons for the trip, we totally loved the Mississippi River and Beale Street, and the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid was just fantastic! Thank you so much for your lovely comment xx
Oh, my gosh! What a great trip! When you landed at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, you were only about 25 minutes away from my house! Next time, let me know you're coming through, and I'll meet you for a quick visit! 😉😁 Julie, you looked so cute in all your Elvis gear, and I just loved your childlike sense of wonder and excitement at seeing Graceland. Martin you looked very sharp in that black cowboy hat. I wonder what everyone would have thought of you cruising along the canals in that hat, eh? Thank you both for sharing your trip with us all; I had a lovely time with you!
Oh Chris, so sorry! We really didn’t think that anyone would be interested in us going on this trip, so we didn’t say anything to anyone, we nearly didn’t put it into a vlog either. In hindsight we really should have announced it and let you know, it would have been lovely to meet you 🥰
Graceland was amazing, I’ve been longing to go for nearly 50 years, so it really meant so much to me and my emotions took over. As soon as I walked through the front door of the house my tears started and by the time we got to the meditation garden and Elvis’ grave, I fell to pieces, I really was a mess. I didn’t realise just how much I loved Elvis until that moment! 🥺 But it wasn’t just about Elvis, we absolutely fell in love with Memphis and especially the people there, they were all so lovely! The Mississippi River was so vast, truly spectacular, even the thunderstorm that we got caught in lol. And one of our favourite places was the Pyramid Bass Pro Shops, wow what a place! If we ever have the money to do it again, we’ll definitely let you know! Thank you so much Chris m! xx
I really enjoyed accompanying you guys to Graceland; that was really good but always nice to get back home! Cheers

Hello from Kansas! When you showed the firearms for sale, I said out loud, "Welcome to America!". Quite a different video for sure! I'm glad you shared your adventure! Thanks!
Hi Richard, yes I must admit, we couldn’t believe just how many guns there were, we had never seen a real gun up close before! Thank you so much for watching, really glad you enjoyed it too xx
So loved this vlog I would love to go to Memphis, if I HAD A DREAM I would say ITS NOW OR NEVER and I would keep this vlog ALWAYS ON MY MIND. Thanks for sharing xx
Hiya! Aww what a fab comment! “thank you very much” It was an amazing trip … dreams do come true! Thank you! xx
I watch your episodes starting from the beginning. Imagine my surprise when I finally worked my way to your visit to Memphis and. voila, there I was with you. What a delightful surprise. This is a terrific memory. Have a very happy Christmas holiday. Larry.
Hi Larry, so lovely to hear from you! You certainly made our day when you recognised us from our videos, we really were truly blown away! A lovely extra memory of the day I finally got to see Graceland! Thank you Larry and so pleased you are still enjoying our videos! xx

@@JulieandMartinonRIB You're very welcome!
You lead a very Good Life 👍 !
Thank you. This was our first holiday abroad for over 36 years, as we could never afford it. This trip was a gift from my previous employer when I retired! We spend all of our time on the boat otherwise, it is a lovely relaxing life. Thank you! xx
I so glad you enjoyed your time in Memphis. You were about a 4 hour drive to my neck of the woods in Kentucky. I hope the USA treated you well. Loved this vlog and seeing a lot of familiar places. Glad you made it home safe, the lightening was a beautiful display by mother nature!
Hi Gilda! The USA treated us very well, we loved every minute! Yes, the lightening was fantastic, however the landing at Dallas in the storms was a bit ‘hairy scary’ lol 😂 Thank you so much for your lovely comment! xx
I just came across this video. I’m thrilled you had so much fun visiting Memphis!!! I live just south of there and have always loved it! It’s always good to see it through someone else’s eyes. Thank you for sharing your experience in a place I love.
Aww thank you for your lovely comment, so glad you enjoyed it. We loved Memphis! xx
You got to see the Mississippi River! We live just a few hours from where it starts - you can literally walk across I - the water is just ankle deep!
Oh wow, that sounds amazing! We loved the Mississippi, we just couldn’t stay away from the water lol 😂 Thank you so much Cheryl xx
Great video and take off is an exciting experience! Landing can be nerve wracking if there are winds or fog. It looks like it was a fun trip!
Thank you Sheryl, such a lovely comment! It really was a lovely trip xx
TCB, baby!⚡
Oh yes, TCB ⚡️Ma boy ma boy! 😉 Thanks Tom! xx
love this
Aww thank you, it really was a fantastic trip, thank you so much! xx
What a place. Great vlog. So, come on Julie, what memorabilia did you bring back other tuan the cups? Please tell me that that toilet seat is now Rapsody in Blue 😂
Haha, not a chance, you should have seen some of the other stuff there, honestly, Beale Street sold just about everything lol! 😂 I did get the Graceland mug and a soft drink bottle with straw, and I obviously got the Graceland T-Shirt, so I can now say “I’ve been to Graceland AND got the T-Shirt” lol. It was an amazing trip, Graceland was fantastic, but that Pyramid was just stunning! Thanks so much xx
Thoroughly enjoyed your video, now subscribed. Look forward to viewing some of your footage from the past, then following your new adventures along the way,🍻.
Thank you so much! It’s lovely to have you with us, welcome aboard! xx
Well, you were only about a 2-hour drive (across the Mississippi River and into Arkansas) from our humble 91 acre abode. I'm sure you were on a tight schedule but, would have been happy to show you the sights in the thriving paradise (lol) that is Arkansas. Well, at least our little neck of the woods. Glad you had such a great trip and hope you the temps were at least below the triple digits while you were here. Take care.
Aww thank you Roger, that’s a lovely offer, we literally only had 5 days, but we had an amazing time. Your place sounds fantastic! The weather was quite hot, but like you say, we had heard that a couple of weeks before, the temps were 110-115°! Think that may have been a bit uncomfortable lol 😂 Thank you so much Roger! xx
Oh I wish I would’ve known you were going to be in Memphis, I just live 3 hours away in Nashville,Tn. I would have liked to have met you, so glad you had a great time in Memphis! 😀
Hi Donna, so sorry, that would’ve been lovely to meet you! What we saw of the USA was amazing! Thank you Donna xx
cool vid on boat life thanks lee
Aww thanks Lee xx
Loved your video from Memphis, so glad you enjoyed your time there!!
Aww thank you so much Jennifer, we were so worried that people wouldn’t like it xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB I live in Wisconsin and have never been to Memphis, have been to other parts of Tennessee! Beautiful state would love to go back! You did a wonderful job chronicling your visit 🤗
@@jenniferspindler9927 thanks Jennifer, that means a lot xx
Iam with Martin don't like take off or landing I fly to Australia ever 2 years love elvis your so lucky but I save up to see my son have been on a steam paddle ship on the Murray River
Hi Lorraine, yes take off and landing can be a bit daunting, but the views in the air are amazing! I’ve loved Elvis nearly all my life and had been longing to go to Graceland forever, so to finally get there was just incredible and so so emotional to me 🥰 That’s lovely that you get to see your son every two years, Australia must be a long flight! Thank you so much xx
Just after Elvis died, there were hundreds of Elvis's, every other week there was yet another Elvis impersonator in the social club. But the one that stuck in my mind -
The club's MC came on stage and said "Ladies and gentlemen, ths is real, there are no tricks, there are no magic mirrors, please welcome on stage ELVIS PRESLEY".
A great big fat bloke with a melted face walked on, the whole place fell about laughing, and he walked off never to return. It turned out it was never meant to be a joke.
PS: Did you get well touched up by American customs? I know I was, when he'd finished I was wondering if I should offer him breakfast.
Oops! 🙈🙉 Some are dreadful Rob, but there are a few really good Elvis Tribute Artists, such as Shawn Klush and Dean Z, but none are as good as the real thing. Elvis was special, and finally getting to Graceland really bought it home just how much I adored him, it was very emotional. Thanks Rob! xx
Haha, that made me laugh 😂 They weren’t too bad tbh, but they were very very serious, that’s one thing we did notice! We loved the American hospitality, they are lovely people xx
Enjoyed the vlog very much Julie and Martin. I haven’t flown since 2000, too scared. I would really like a special trip with my husband. Did you both do any prep regarding the flying or did you just go for it?
Hi Kath, we just went for it! Honestly, we were so nervous, both excited and scared all at the same time! But by the middle of the first flight we were fine, and then the flights became part of the excitement of the holiday! Apparently flying is actually the safest form of transport! Please please book that special holiday, you only live once, do it, you only ever regret the things you ‘didn’t’ do, not the ones you did! 🥰 Aww keep in touch and let us know where you go! xx
