- In this week's video we visit Memphis Tennessee.
It is running of fumes that we arrive at Memphis, Tennessee; and I'm not talking about old Kia. It is us. It has been an intense whirlwind road trip for almost two weeks now, and we are really ready for a break that won't come for another two days. I, however, am ecstatic to be staying here right next to the shore of the Mississippi. I have always been fascinated by this river mainly because of Mark Twain's stories. I can almost imagine Jim and Huck's raft coming downstream.
We ignore our fatigue and decide to explore downtown a little bit. We walk along the bank of the river enjoying a spectacular sunset. Then we walk towards historic Beale Street, which is lined up with bars, most of them featuring live music. It is a real shame we are not really in the mood for partying.
On the next day we go to the main tourist attraction in this town: Graceland. This was Elvis Presley's home all the way from the 1950's until the time of his death in 1977. Some of the room were redecorated for the tour, reflecting different eras in the life of the King of Rock and Roll. There's also a whole building dedicated to the many awards he received as well as costumes and memorabilia. There is a meditation garden where Elvis, and well as other family members are laid to rest. Across the street there are two main attractions. One of them is the two jet planes Elvis Presley acquired in 1975. The other is the automobile museum, showcasing his extensive automobile collection.
After the museum we go to one of the most famous barbeque restaurants in Memphis: Central BBQ. While it is a tough comparison, I do believe the one in St. Louis was a little more tasty, but I could have taste bud fatigue at this point so don't quote me on that.
Our last point of interest in the city is the Memphis Pyramid. It was originally conceived as an area, but something about the dimensions prevented it from becoming an NBA arena. After much financial distress, the property was leased by Bass Pro Shops, and they have built the largest over the top store. The highest freestanding elevator in the United States takes you to the top of the pyramid, where they have a restaurant and an observation deck.
We depart at sunset and spend the night in Tupelo, Mississippi, very close to Elvis Presley's birthplace. In the morning we briefly visit the site, and then spend most of the day driving south towards the Florida panhandle.

Terrific!
Very beautiful and great video! Great footage. Thanks for sharing. Greeting John from The Netherlands.
Thank you!
That bass pro shop is great with the nature scenes. The fake swamp with the fish in the water is so cool.
Hi Robert, Just wanted to let you know that my partner and I really enjoy your video's. We stumbled across your video's several years ago and really enjoy the places you go. Through your video's we are getting great idea's for our next trip to America. We loved visiting Daytona Beach for the Daytona 500 back in 2013. We also went to Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center. Thanks for all the great ideas :)
+Tony Driesen Hey, thank you!
I loved it I love to travel too....I'll go to Memphis soon
We didn't get a chance to see inside the pyramid when we were there so it was really interesting to see that. Graceland is quite a place isn't it and we were also impressed with the clever Ipad guide! Mud Island is worth a visit and also the Peabody ducks if you ever get a chance to get back there.
+Paul Newton Yes... Next time for sure. I even had an invitation from a viewer to go see the ducks and then dinner but couldn't make it.
Robert, Memphis loves you! Sorry you guys were worn out from the road. We hope you make this way again soon! The treasures are a bit spread out around here. I'd be happy to buy you and your production assistant a slab and a couple of beers! Love your work!!
Thanks Dennis. Definitely need to revisit and see it more relaxed and rested. I lot of people have said negative things about Memphis here, but I'm sure, like most places, it has many hidden gems. Looking forward to it some time in the future.
Thanks for quick response. I'm looking to buy a great camera for my retirement trip. Good to have seen what they can do. You do make it look easy. Keep them coming..I love to hear other peoples journeys in life.
+Jay Mat On that note my main Sony camera may be a little on the bulky and heavy side for casual use... But the quality and moreover the stabilization are great for the price.
I sure liked it! Thanks.
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
I can imagine sitting on the bench facing the Mighty Mississippi, and having my morning coffee.
+Gloria Aguilar Yes, very nice
Yea... what a spot on the river! Robert is living MY DREAMS LOL!
This must be before they built the new bridge on I-40 crossing the river. They have a huge modern suspension bridge there now. It's nice. I-55 still has the old school steel support style bridges though. Memphis is an interesting city.
So COOL!"
#149 Good morning, Robert. I just stumbled on to this video, but found it very nice.
I love Graceland, have seen it twice!
Hello from Poland. Thanks for great video. Vatch all the time. Great!!!!)
+Roman Paszkow Thank you!
cool! Keep up your good work :)
Hi Robert! If your viewers get to spend time more time at Elvis' birthplace, I think they'll enjoy the presentation inside the Assembly of God church. It looks just like it did when Elvis attended. The pews look original. Huge screens come down on three sides of the building and you are transported to a Pentecostal worship service circa Elvis' childhood. You can certainly understand how the music influenced him.
Legal! Very good !
Thank you!
Nice job again Robert, the tour of Memphis and all of the kings property and belonging was well explained. when you put this trip together, Its going to be nice.. 4K is good.
Thanks. Final video is looking like it is going to be 3 hours long. I'm going to have to cut some stuff... but don't know what
I hope not to much.. It has to flow and make sense.. I still can't wait to see it put together.. Good Luck
Good video. Memphis is definitely not a mid western city, though.
I guess I'm pretty randomly asking but do anybody know a good place to watch new series online?
@Tristan Mateo Try flixzone. Just google for it =)
Love your videos what kind of camera video do you use. You do such a wonderful job. I love touring with you and your wife. Keep em coming.
I recently got a Sony XDR-AX33, which is now my main camera. I'm very happy with it. I also use a GoPro Hero3, and my phone, an LG V10.
that's much better,thanx
I'm glad you approve. I was so frustrated with the first upload I almost deleted it.
Discovered this after watching the Great American Roadtrip video. I really enjoy your channel, as I'm considering purchasing an RV. Memphis is definitely a great place to live! And the traffic is always considerably light for a city its size.
Also saw you went to Central's for BBQ. It's ok, but is more so known as a tourist spot. If you ever go back to Memphis, check out Cozy Corner, Top's, and BBQ Shop for some great 'que. Cheesecake Corner has great cheesecake & quiche. Alcenia's is great for breakfast. Also worth visiting the Civil Rights Museum & the Memphis Rock & Soul Museum.
I'll be going to Memphis in a couple of days. Maybe I'll go to some of those spots. Thank you!
I have been to Beale Street and have drank at several of those bars and listened to some good music.
Camping Gulf and that spot though!!! i would be so jealous, wait i am jealous!! u are lucky Robert :)
Thanks! That was a great spot. I had such a great time just stepping out of the camper and hitting the beach! I will post a full video soon.
Loved your comments.
Thanks!
That was a Sun Dog, or rainbow formed in cirrus (ice) clouds. Great video!
I go visit my friend in Indiana and I know every bit of that Birmy to Monty route. LOL. I used to like white castles and Krystals but they don't like me anymore. LOL...when I hit Montgomery, I yell whoo hoo when I see my first swamp. I like moonlight, magnolias and marshes. bless.
That was a Sundog you saw. Change of weather.
Just got back from Destin on my Vacation! Very relaxing! The Emerald coast at its best!
But I definitely agree there's no good way coming from the North down in tho Destin/Ft Walton areas. backwoods for sure!.... uggh!
Cool video tho.....Keep um coming!
Best beach I've seen in the USA.
I went once when my inlaws spend the winter there. Can't beat the white sand.
I expected Memphis to be more populated than St Louis.........afterall, aren't cities supposed to be populated?? Haha!
I really could not believe that a city could have such superlight traffic and almost empty streets, even in the evenings!!! (Wish my city were like that!) Perhaps everyone in Memphis is out on a roadtrip as well. hehehe
Once again, a great vlog! Loved it. But I think I am going to love the forthcoming Florida vlog even more, especially with the sneak-peek of that beach in the RV park that you gave you gave us in this video. Eagerly awaiting the next episode. :)
Thanks again. That beach was marvelous, my favorite one in Florida so far. It was great just to step out of the camper and walking or running as few steps to the water. Certainly a luxury but so much fun.
A good Video ,Greatings from Germany
Thanks you! Greetings from Florida
Thanks,Robert ,-)
Jesus has continued to bless you with great skills love the drone keep it up
Thank you!
You were real close to me in Tupelo, too bad you had to leave Elvis's birthplace before it opened up. I think you would have enjoyed the tour.🙂
we pass this city all the time when we go down south to Alabama every winter, spring, and summer. in the 6th grade of May 2012 I was about go to the actual city of Memphis but they didn't pick me.
ELVIS ALIVE ELVIS É VIVO
👍
It's weird seeing Elvis' grave not covered all over in flowers, like it was when I visited.
+Joseph Carroll Since it was my first time I have no point of reference. On that note the whole Memphis town felt depressed and most people seemed to be in a bad mood.
Great Job!! I subscribed because you make it easy for us to see different states that i haven't been to yet. 👉 👑
Mr. Robert , where do you get those state stickers that you put on teenie minnie ? And where do you get the actual outline of the United States? Thanks in advance! Also by the way love your videos, keep them coming!
I bought the sticker map at Camping World. Thank you, I'm glad you like my videos
Not to many good IPA's on this one. How much was the stay on the beach? Looked sweet. cheers
What drone are you using? It seems very unstable.
+LlamasAreBest Yes... It is the original DJI Phantom. Ancient by today standards. I am going to upgrade soon... either DJI Mavick or GoPro Karma.
Awesome. I'm from South Africa. Love your videos. Especially the ones from Florida. I've been there twice.
if you ever go to elysburg pa you should go to knobles amusement park as soon as you get there
+Ann Grubb Thank you for the tip
i will not be here for awhile it is me jacob i am going away for 4 t 6 months so fare well and i hope to see you then
+Ann Grubb Hey Jacob. Farewell to you too. See you around.

Actually, Nashville is located in middle Tennessee and is known as Music City. It's also the capitol of the state.

Wonderful video :) ... In case you go visit Memphis again, please visit the Civil Rights Museum.
Cool, I will
That's not a coffee maker. Thats a mud maker?
At 12:o6 the white Bible I think every Christian Family in the south owned one of those. Family Bible..they were sold door to door on a payment plan..All my family bought one...FYI It has beautiful color pictures and Maps of the middle east the places Jesus and disciples traveled.. It also had a place for Family records, Births deaths etc
Were are you from
I was born in Cuba
TravelingRobert yo también
Memphis is my hometown, and trust me, you don't want to move here.
I like Memphis.
Rip my friend she lives in Memphis
But why not live there? I wanted to visit her again.
Rob Olgatree : big city problems?
Why not?
Ummm Memphis is not Midwestern it’s in Tennessee the Southeast
Whats up with tourists saying memphis is in the midwest ? Mid-south is correct answer
, you must be very successful, judging from your big earlobe
I sure hear a lot...or maybe I'm a ferengi
Elvis is w god
That I'm riding in my rv song is now annoying can you stop playing it ?
No, it is my song
I enjoy your theme song - both with and without vocals !! It's part of the experience - it's you !!!
@@TravelingRobert Haahaa... Never gettin tired of Robert's theme song. ALWAYS makes me smile. 🎶
Elvis is alive, you write....where in the hell do you see him. Theres a lot of way to make people see your video, but this is not the one
Ummm. The 'spirit' of Elvis DOES 'Live' on. It's a long running metaphor. Trust me... Robert does not DO 'sensation grabbingl' titles.. he does not NEED to. Just sayin, friend.
