Being alive during the Vietnam conflict, I'm surprised to say I have never heard this before. It's SO COOL! That war really did have the best soundtrack.🤘
Love Jimmy Cliff, huge reggae star in the late sixties and seventies. "Suffering in the Land" "Going back West" "You can get it if you really want it" lots of great songs.
Jimmy is a legend almost did as much as bob spreading the music!
Ps. Listen to many rivers to cross, i can see it clearly now. He did so many great songs
Bob Dylan called it the best anti war song! Other great songs by Jimmy Cliff are "Many rivers to cross", "The harder they come" or "Bongo Man"
Yes, love both of these. Forgot about Bongo Man!
Jimmy Cliff's 'Sitting Here in Limbo' is straight fire!
Biz, let me start by saying no one plays better music than you on the internet. I cannot believe you played the great Jimmy Cliff! Jimmy is one of reggae's biggest stars ever, right up there with Marley. Most critics say that the greatest reggae album of all time is the soundtrack to the 1972 film "The Harder They Come", ranked #119 on Rolling Stone Magazine's Top 500 album list. The film stars Jimmy as Ivan Martin, a poor Jamaican young man who aspires to be a reggae star, though later he winds up pursued by the law. The album features Jimmy on 6 tracks, Toots and the Maytals on 2 tracks, as well as songs from other artists. Also, Jimmy has a live '76 album called "In Concert: The Best of Jimmy Cliff" which is a dynamite concert recording from a '75 concert in NY's Central Park and includes a great extended version of "Viet Nam." "Catch a Fire" is great, but '74's "Natty Dread" is my favorite from Bob. I'd love to hear that album in its entirety. Thanks for playing the classics.!
Love the early reggae musicians - Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley ,Peter Tosh, etc. Definitely worth a deeper exploration. My favorite Jimmy Cliff song - "Many Rivers to Cross" Thank you for your great reactions, really enjoy them
Brilliant. Jimmy Cliff's catalog is SO worth diving into.
Jimmy has such a deep catalogue. Will always hold a huge spot in my heart ❤️
Bob Dylan called "Vietnam" the best protest song he had ever heard.
Jimmy Cliff!!!! I never heard this song; my father was a Vietnam Vet. PLEASE react to his song “The Harder They Come”; I really think you would like it. A Vietnam song I would love to see your reaction to was actually an 80’s club hit; “19” by Paul Hardcastle; a serious dance song, not the pop junk; but the message is brutal; the average age of the Vietnam combat soldier was 19, and the horrors they had to see and endure broke their minds.
I'm not surprised that I've never heard this great song. They didn't play Reggea on the radio where I grew up. Thank you for the introduction. It's going on a playlist for sure!! ❤️✌️
Wonderful World, Beautiful People is an awesome song by Jimmy.
Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy…. Love that guy!
I love older reggae too! You should check out The Wailing Souls! Their album Firehouse Rock. You'll love it, I promise!
Cool song 🎵 Never heard it before. Thanks for playing this!
Jimmy Cliff starred as Ivan Martin, a ganja runner caught up in a double cross, in the 1972 Jamaican crime film The Harder They Come. The movie is pretty cool for what it is, but the soundtrack is next level awesome roots rock reggae heaven -- Jimmy Cliff "You Can Get It If You Really Want", Scotty "Draw Your Brakes", The Melodians "Rivers of Babylon", Jimmy Cliff "Many Rivers to Cross", The Maytals "Sweet and Dandy", Jimmy Cliff "The Harder They Come", The Slickers "Johnny Too Bad", Desmond Dekker "007 (Shanty Town)", The Maytals "Pressure Drop", Jimmy Cliff "Sitting in Limbo", Jimmy Cliff "You Can Get It If You Really Want", Jimmy Cliff "The Harder They Come". Yeah, some songs repeat, but at different time lengths that reflect the fact of their use in the movie. Jimmy Cliff "Many Rivers to Cross" is one particular stand out tune that rivals "Bridge Over Troubled Water" for gospel emotional intensity.
That soundtrack is one of the best Reggae Albums ever. Straight🔥
Used to listen to this when I was stationed in Frankfurt Germany (not in Vietnam) from 1967-1970 in the Air Force; haven't heard it for a long time.
Pretty new to your channel, But I'm impressed with the content that you have shared!... Thank you!
Love the reggae groove
Jimmy Cliff is an absolute legend.
One of my favorite Jimmy Cliff's song is, "Sitting in Limbo."
Dive into Jimmy Cliff!!
Jimmy Cliff made Reggae famous before Bob Marley did
Biz, love that ur diggin into Jimmy Cliff. Many Rivers to Cross is another great song
Since you love Marley, how 'bout a little "Natural Mystic"?
His album "rebirth" in 2012 is great.
He was in the movie club paradise with Robin Williams
We lost way too many brothers in Vietnam……… WAR……what is it good for?? …Absolutely Nothing!!
War Makes Money..
ya..Even with "The American War in Vietnam! Grifted Again?
Jimmy is the panacea to all the world's problems.
What he said was really happened. It was true.
Check out "Take a good look " probably Cliff best song
