They seemed so awkward when this channel started, but now they have the relaxed charisma of talk show hosts.
Thanks for being with us since start🌹😊❤️
At the end, when asked, "who will help me carry him" and all those men came, gave me swollen eyes and tears! That is true Honor!
Yes this is as emotionally powerful as a movie gets. Loved their reactions!
Holy crap - I realize this is one of the most satisfying killings in the movies, ever, but the CinePhiles reactions had me crying and I think it's the first time I have done that for this movie. I appreciate your compassion and willingness to let movies reveal your personalities to us.
Ridley Scott made a universally great movie here, by sticking to traditional themes, and picked a setting which still echoes through time. This passed the reaction test completely.
Seeing them become emotional touched a note with me. No matter who you are or where you live, family is always the most cherished treasure.
"Just distract the public with sports and then do whatever you want."
He knows what's up.
Brilliant reactions from these great guys. One of the best channels to film reactions purely for these 2 chaps. The way they understand and grasp the storylines is pretty impressive.
You guys have become one of my favorite reactors, and I follow a lot of reaction channels. Your channel does the best movies. Your reactions are so pure. I have a crush on both of you 😊
Thanks for showing so much love 💕🌹

Oliver Reed died three weeks before principal photography ended. Because Proximo was considered a key character, a clause in the movie's insurance contract would have allowed the filmmakers to re-shoot all of Reed's scenes with another actor at the insurer's expense, about $25 million. However, most of the actors and crew were exhausted from the punishing schedule, and Sir Ridley Scott did not want to cut Reed from the movie. The script was rewritten, and a body double and CGI were used to give Reed's character a plausible resolution.
I didn’t know he died before the movie was even finished shooting. I’m glad his scenes weren’t cut. They’re too good.
I don't want to sound cruel but Gladiator is a better movie because Oliver Reed died (more expensive to make, yes) but the whole Maximus's friend saying "I will see you again but not yet" (originally Proximo was supposed to be the last man in front of the camera) and other little pieces regarding Maximus's black friend who is more likeable than Proximo were only put in to make up for the loss of Proximo.
I remember watching this at the theater as a teenager, it was just unbelievable to me that he died in the end, it really devastated me I couldn't stop crying. And still crying to this days every time I see that ending scene
I knew there was a chance of me crying at the end of the movie 😢... seeing these gentlemen shed tears is what got me crying even more 😭 enjoy your cinematic journey 🤗
I took my daughter with me to see this at the Movies 🎥 she was 16 years old and I know we both cried. 😢❤ I love this historical and incredible movie. I even like Joaquin Phoenix in this beautiful film. Each persons role and actors were legendary and yes 🙌🏽 the music 🎼 is forever my favorite. HANS ZIMMER the Best Composer of films created the OST and it’s timeless. Thank you for sharing the Reaction.
Them laughing at Commodus suffering was great. Love how the acting and story carries over so well across language and culture.
The end of the movie gets me every time too.
You guys are awesome! Enjoy watching my favorite films with you!
Awesome review, guys. That's what separates you from many of the other channels. You're not afraid to give your honest reactions, and you even noticed the incredible acting of the antagonist. It's not easy to humanize a character that is supposed to be hated by the audience. I bet you guys never realised you would become some of the best movie reviewers on CZcams but you are 😄👌
These guys deserve way more attention than the hundreds of reactors/content creators that watch movies on here. Their reactions are raw and genuine but not only that, they grasp the themes and message behind each movie and acknowledge the acting and production of the movies, all of which is even harder to do watching movies in a different culture and language than their own.
This will be amazing. I've been wanting these guys to react to the gladlater for a long time.
You have been heard. Enjoy 😊
It’s been years since I’ve seen this film, but I was crying right along with them at the end…since they liked the actors, Master and Commander is another great historical film with Russell Crowe.
I always cry at the end of this movie
Great reaction, this is a classic movie. You guys are doing wonderful reviews, please keep them up!!
I love these guys, and I'm super impressed that they pointed out that the government distracts the people with bread and sports. There is a famous Roman saying about this: panem et circenses. It means that if the government gives the people superficial benefits like entertainment and some food, it will appease them enough for the government to do whatever it wants. These guys nailed it!
I knew they would enjoy this type of movie! I'd love it if they saw, "Dances with Wolves"!
BTW Mansoor's hand gestures and finger pointing always have me cracking up! @40:10 🤣🤣
They might be interested to know that, although the story is fictional, some of the characters were real. Commodus was a real Emperor, and he really did fight in Gladiatorial arenas (although he fixed his fights by giving his opponents wooden weapons). There is no evidence that he murdered his father to become Emperor, though. Indeed, he was already ruling the Empire anyway due to his father's failing health. He was described by contemporary historians as cowardly and stupid, and his rule was noted for many acts of wanton cruelty.
Maximus himself is a purely fictional character. But is a composite of several real life individuals.
Joaquin Phoenix is indeed an incredible actor and has a show stealing performance here, while Russel Crowe always has a kind of rugged, everyman charm.
I believe Maximus character was inspired by a real historical character, Spartacus, who had a pivotal role during rome's 3rd slave rebelion
@@Pichuuh Yes, among other people. He was also likely inspired by Marcus Nonius Macrinus.
@@seraphinaaizen6278 As well as, Naughtious Maximus, and, Biggus Dickus.
@@Cosmo-Kramer .....What's so funny about Biggus Dickus?
I have a wewy good fwend in Wome called Biggus Dickus.
My boyyyysss!! ❤ Movie time! 🍿
Mansoor was sweating the final fight, pushing that knife in Commodus’s throat.
Navid and Mansoor have quickly developed an eye for detail and grasping the main plot and subplots. Very keen observers. Job well done.
These two gentlemen are beautiful human beings. God bless from England.
When a character makes you like them in their victories and sad in their death, you know they were writen well. Giving life to a fictional character because of how real they are, virtues and flaws included, is the dream of any writer.
(Btw, the movie was based on real life events but not one for one)
Same can be said if a character that makes you truly hate them, Commodus:
@@rdmrdm2659 oh totally. Villains and antagonists can come in as many flavors as heros. The classical villain (boring if it’s too vanilla), the fallen hero (a hero in the past that became a villain for some reason), the heroic villain (the villain that could easily be the hero because they want to do good. Problem is their tactics and the costs. Practically the definition of Doing great things but at what cost).
People deserve respect who give respect. Great reaction, Thank you both. 🙂
A digital body double was created for the remaining scenes involving actor Oliver Reed's character Proximo (the old gladiator) due to Reed's death during production. Reed died from a heart attack during a break from filming Gladiator in Valletta, Malta, on the afternoon of 2 May 1999. According to witnesses, he drank eight pints of German lager, a dozen shots of rum, half a bottle of whiskey and a few shots of Hennessy cognac, in a drinking match against a group of sailors on shore leave from HMS Cumberland at a local pub. His bar bill totaled a little over 270 Maltese lira (almost 450 GBP; about 590 USD). After beating five much younger Royal Navy sailors at arm-wrestling, Reed suddenly collapsed, dying while en route to hospital in an ambulance. He was 61 years old
His escapades with Keith Moon are legendary
@@smokeyverton7981 May they Rest In Chaos🍻🎉👯♀️🍾
Mansoor got so moved by this he started crying ❤
The Colosseum in Rome has been standing since 72 CE. it still stands today.
Magnificent
When Lucious said, I’m Maximus the savior of Rome, I was like Oh Damn ! 😂
The actor playing Proximo (Oliver Reed) passed away shortly after finishing his scenes. There is an on-screen dedication to him that reads "In loving memory of Oliver Reed", but there's another amazing thing about this movie that many people don't know about.
In the original version of the film it was Proximo who was supposed to betray Maximus in the end, but it would make his character too unlikeable. Not an image you would like to leave behind of an actor who has just died.
So some movie scenes were reshot, others were changed. The whole scene where Proximo is freeing Maximus at night while soldiers are fighting against gladiators - that's not Oliver Reed, its a man that looks like him from a distance. The moment when Proximo unlocks the bars and exchange a few words with Maximus, if you pay close attention light on Proximo's face doesn't look exactly right - that's because it was Oliver Reed's face taken from another scene and digitally superimposed on the face of his "double".
The moment where soldiers are about to stab Proximo to death - he is filmed from behind as they are closing in, but when he says "Shadows and dust" while it cuts to his face, that bit was taken from when they were in the Colosseum and he said those exact words to Maximus.
Seems like simple enough changes, but you must remember that digital effects were not cheap, or easy in 1999. Reshooting all the other scenes and re-cutting the movie just to give Oliver Reed a better send-off cost millions of dollars, but that's what the director decided that should happen - Thank you Mr Scott.
Nowadays there'd just be a creepy CGI double with an AI-generated voice...
I didn't know that! He played him so well, I'm glad they kept him.
Show them AMADEUS. By the way, love the teacups.
I'm literally crying right now with Mansoor 🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧😫🤧🤧🤧🤧
The music is performed by Lisa Gerrad of the band Dead Can Dance. One of the best vocalists to ecist on this earth
Hans Zimmer and Lisa . I absolutely love the soundtrack and play it . * Lisa singing with Denez Prigent is also awesome.
Thanks for reminding me what a good movie this was. And, as always, you guys are the best!
This movie will make any grown man cry.
Yes! Ordering pizza now.
🍕🤤
I always feel your reactions straight in my guts. You are the only reactors I watch. ❤ from Texas.
"He doesn't consider humanity! Leave her, bastard!"
That is the appropiate reaction!
Been waiting for this one, nice reaction guys
Gladiator is the movie that can make the most hardened man cry.
Mansoor is very emotional bless him
This is the first reaction of you guys I have watched. You have profound insight for the emotional complexity of the art of cinema and moral challenges of life especially for how difficult it must be for good men to nonetheless be dangerous when it is necessary. BRAVO TO MY NEW FAVORITE REACTOR REVIEWERS.
This is the only movie where it’s OK for men to cry at the end😅. It’s also my favorite movie of all time🥲. Hello from Los Angeles, California everybody👋🏽.
I don't care what gender you are, if you don't feel you can allow yourself to cry after some of the most moving movies of all time, such as Schindler's List, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, etc., then I think you are doing yourself a great disservice. It is not un-manly to FEEL and to CARE... don't ever let anyone convince you otherwise. That isn't manly, it's just sad, unhealthy, and more than likely, a lie to yourself by trying to fit into a false narrative. No truly brave man would do that.
@@margaretsmith756 chill, it ain’t that serious😆🤦🏻♂️.
A lot of us are crying with you. Maximus! Maximus!
You should show them the movie Signs. The actor who plays Commodus is in that film and it's very exciting.
I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR MORAL REACTIONS AND FEELINGS.
I TOO CRIED 🥲
IT'S NOT SEEN MUCH IN WESTERN CULTURE WHERE I LIVE ❣️
I very nearly cried with them. Had to steel myself when I know it’s coming. That scene is very touching indeed.
"He's not a warrior, he's just a man without purpose"... that hit hard
May I never be looked at in the same manner that Naveed and Mansoor were glaring at Commodus!
I have been watching your channel for a while and feel like I know you guys on a personal level. You guys are now considered.. Family.
Outstanding fellas,😊👍✌️🇺🇸
One of the greatest films ever made. Love how these gentlemen enjoyed it. I weep every time.
Great movie and no doubt, is gonna be a great reaction, as always. Here's my like 👍
I will watch later 😊
After seeing this, I'm crying. This movie is so emotional, so hard, so beautiful, so powerful... Mansoor's tears says everything at the end. Maximus died with honor. That's a lesson for every human being.
Thanks guys for another wonderful reaction ❤
When Commodus asked his father “Have I missed it? Have I missed the battle?” I couldn’t believe it! What kind of question is that? 🤦🏾♀️ He was late because he was a narcissist coward. You can’t expect to get love and respect from that.
bless you for that reaction. I cry every time. Incredible film, incredible performances !!
This is fim is "Maximus".. this guys also!!!
Hugs from Brazil!!!
Whoever's picking the movies are doing a great job! Wonderful reactions, as always ❤
Your reactions are priceless, fascinating and very emotional! You are charismatic guys!
300 next!
Mansoor has a big heart ❤️ 😢
Hey I'm from New Jersey, USA. I watch your channel a lot now, good videos, good job guys.
Keep enjoying, share the video with your friends as well 👍
Great review guys. I don't say this often, but Mansoor you almost made me cry too just by watching you. Such a genuine emotional response shows you have a good heart. Now can someone please give Mansoor a hug??
Wish I could double like for you guys, deserve more views.
It’s mind-blowing that basically nothing about The Colosseum’s size and function in the movie is historically inaccurate. They’d even FLOOD THE FIELD and recreate ship battles sometimes!!!
This proves we all share something in common in our believes around the world, because this is a story about the best man vs the worst man and everybody knows who is who.
You guys are seeing a copy I have never seen before. Some of these cut scenes from the OG makes me want to watch it again... lol
The Collisiem is still in Rome, big tourist attraction.
Have watched this every year since it came out. Still makes me cry.
😊You two are my favorite reactors! Love this channel👏🏻👏🏻
Beautiful manly emotions flowing. Love these guys
This movie brings many a tear to peoples eyes lol. This movie always moves me to start tearing up especially at the end. 😢
I love these two’s reactions
Another emotional journey for poor Mansoor!
Always love your reactions...thank you! Good journey :) Peace!
Peace ✌️
The movie 300 next!
I love that you reacted to the continued rise in democracy. Thank you.
Gladiator is one of the best films ever and you guys gave it justice. There are Roman landmarks all over where I live in Wales. The empire came a long way. (They were shot by Welsh bowpeople a lot though)
Gladiator is my all time favourite film I must have watched it about 30 times (not exaggerating) but there were several scenes in this that I have never seen! I have no idea what this extended version is but I must buy it
Also enjoyed the reaction 😂 especially because it’s my favourite
I recommend Blood Diamond as it’s another favourite and has Djimon Hounsou in it who is Maximus’ good friend in this film
Blood Diamond to.
Great reaction! I've just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work!
You have to get the movie 300 in front of their eyes. They would definitely love it.
Love from Texas, USA. Y’all are one of my favorite reactors.
I highly recommend, Kingdom of Heaven! Also produced by Ridley Scott 🤌
I would absolutely love to see their reaction to The Count of Monte Cristo.
Where are these guys from? Couldn't find that or their names anywhere. Love this channel!
Publius Cornelius Scipio Amenalius Africanus was a Roman General who won the 2nd Punic War, the hero of Africa, the person who influenced Roman history
This is the one movie that really gets to guys in the end. Including myself. Great movie. And great reaction vid.
Russell Crowe never disappoints. Among his huge portfolio, there are two movies that I LOVE with him: "A Good Year" and "L.A. Confidential". Your reactions to these two movies would be most appreciated! I really enjoy your reactions. Much better than many, trust me!! 🙂
He was finally able to go home.
poor Mansoor! watching him cry almost made me cry
There are a lot of historical inaccuracies, Commodus was co-Emperor alongside his father for a number of years before Marcus Aurelius died of an illness during a campaign against the Quadi Germanic tribes. The battle in the beginning of the movie was an early battle in Marcus' reign against the Boii, an Iron Age Germanic tribe that eventually became the Dutch Vikings.
Commodus was murdered by his personal trainer and bodyguard Narcissus acouple of years later, it's not verified as fact but some historians claim Commodus was bisexual and made unwanted advances on Narcissus who had no interest in him.
Maximus was a fictional character loosely based on Judah Ben Hur in the Christian bible who was falsely accused of murdering a Governor and forced to fight as a gladiator as a charioteer until he won his freedom. Then went on a bunch of revenge crusades against the Romans like Robin Hood until became a disciple of Jesus, witnessed the crucifixion, married Esther, had a couple brats and allegedly built the Catacomb of Callixtus or Crypt of the Popes in the Appian Way in Italy.
Nicely done gentlemen ……. I enjoyed your honest reaction to this amazing film….. Keep up the good work …..!!!!
Omg I saw this when it came out I was like whatever probably will suck. But the battle in beginning was like so epic
this is known as a 'guy cry' film same as field of dreams and the shawshank redemption
Great reaction! Just subscribed! Great comments from u guys! I cried at the end of the movie. The feels!
Was this some directors cut? I have never seen the scene of Commodus beating up the statue.
As you said, superb acting both from Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix. Great direction by Ridley Scott (who also directed "Alien" and "Blade Runner") and an unforgettable soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. The film also teaches us some valuable leadership lessons, the main of which is that leadership is not a position (a leader can never be appointed) but the result of someone's integrity, strength and courage and something that is always earned in the eyes of the people who choose to follow that person.
21:11 "Pisat", " Pisati", "Pisa" in Serbo-Croatian (spoken in Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro and sub families in Macedonia, Slovenia) means to urinate lol. I heard something along those lines.
I still cant wait for them to watch Kingdom of heaven or Last Samurai or Schindler List. Historical movies I think are great for people who may not have the greatest understanding of the past or other cultures. We are hear because you guys come remote places and experiencing a life you may not have seen without internet. Good job
