Plo Koon also wore clone armor. I like the idea that the Jedi that loved and respected their clones, wore pieces of their armor.
also practical for protection
As did Mace Windu

i would like to know mace's thoughts on the clones
@@zedbruh7212I feel like he respected the clones a lot but wasn’t buddy buddy with them like Kenobi and Plo.
@@zedbruh7212 mace loved the republic to the point of zealotry so the ones defending the republic were his allies
I always loved how Kenobi wore Clone Armor over his Jedi robes. Such an iconic look for not only him, but other Jedi such as Plo Koon as well.
I liked the clone wars movie where he was in full clone armor with Jedi tunic over the breastplate
True that.

I'm beginning to think this Palpatine guy isnt such a good egg
He has a redemption arc. Trust me bro
He loves democracy. He said it himself. And when has a politician ever lied?
*Norm macdonald voice*
I've got a bad feeling about this...
Don't worry the republic is secured
Anakin/Vader being the most expensive single part of Rebels because of his need to dramatically enter scenes with his robe/cape flowing is just hilarious and fitting
I remember Obi- Wan rocking the clone armor along with his speeder bike in the 2003 clone wars, badass indeed
That helmet was awesome
Almost 21 years ago😢 dam, I feel old reading comments like this
And cape billowing well done
I thought it was because the jedi knew that it only takes one stray blaster bolt or shrapnel to kill them so armor is a prudent choice.
That whole 2003 micro series was badass. everything in it.
Cody & Obi-Wan. Rex with Anakin & Ahsoka. Greatest friendships in the Clone Wars outside of Domino Squad.
It's 1 of the reasons Rex was able to stave off Order 66 as long as he did...
Perfect friendship
Bro checked out the REVAN DRIP and was like *"Nah, Impossible. Perhaps my wardrobe is incomplete"* and got the clone trooper drip in his collection.
😭
True!
I never knew I needed this comment in my life
Obi-Wan and Anakin also shared in the comradery in other meaningful ways. They both commanded the clones from the front lines rather than the rear, and they would share the same sleeping quarters and foxholes with clone regulars during sieges. They valued their opinions and strategic insight when offered to them and respected them as individuals and not a tool of war. They were as much a part of their unit as they were their commanding officers.
Obi Wan often commanded from a tank, though we never really see that reflected to heavily in the show in the back end of things that was one of his most well-known strategies. Turn a tank into a mobile command HQ, fuck shit up, get out if ABSOLUTELY needed lol
Fun fact: obiwan even had a clone helmet at one point of the clone wars but lost it in battle against the famous bounty hunter Durge.
Strange how it was the armor that made the public view them as warriors, and not the fact that they were the generals of the army lol.
I guess people understand that line between badass soldier and pencil pusher
It is pretty easy to get a large group of people with herd mentallity to think stuff. Conformists are easily manipulated and controlable. Palpatine did not even have to do that much. All he had to do was place his wood at the right spots and fan the old embers that already existed and bam dude has a bonfire. Keep in mind not all of the member spcies of the republic were of good repute. They only joined due to the benefits the republic gave them.
The Jedi were peacekeepers. That means between all the member species of the republic they had to police. Your species was either helped or stopped by the Jedi or had little interaction at all. Nearly half of the republic hated the Jedi if not half or more.
The republic was always a giant bomb ready to go off at any time. The only reason it lasted was that there were always more people working to stitch up the tares than those who made tares. Palpatine simply in one fell move turned all that pent up animosity into his tool and watched the republic tear itself apart.

I love how Obi-Wan looks in his short appearance in Tales of the Jedi. I think it’s the first time we’ve seen him with his Jedi mullet while in clone armor since the 2003 micro series.
True, but it kinda creates a continuity issue
@@MadChristoph why
@@athunderfanBecause it’s impossible to grow your hair out or get a haircut. Obviously.
This is a common misconception in general with peacekeepers, etc. First, you can't keep peace that didn't exist to begin with. Second, you can't call yourself peacekeepers of the conflict is getting worse and your peacekeeping actions worthless. And third, if you're not willing to engage in combat and defeat those trying to destroy the peace and create conflict, then you're worthless as a peacekeeper. It's like being a police officer but refusing, or being too afraid, to enforce the law out of fear.
Protect and Serve
I think Kit Fisto once said that Jedi traditionally shunned armor because while it provides protection, it also numbs the senses, thus subtly interfering with their ability to channel the power of the Force.
I think that’s only an issue for Jedi that don’t have a strong enough connection to wear armor while using the force due to lack of force training and concentration. Anakin,Obiwan and Plo Koon have all shown that they can wear armor and still fight well and that’s partly because of their training in the force.
I've also heard the explanation that Jedi eschewed armor because it was considered unnecessary. A jedi was to trust in the force to protect them or, when it was their time, to allow them to fall in the service of greater things. Armor was simply an impediment in that ideology because either it was unnecessary because the force would save them alone or because the force may have wanted them to die and the armor would then be actively working against the will of the force in trying to protect them.
Simply put; to some the use of armor was a pathway to fear. Fear of injury, fear of death, and a lack of faith in the force.
@@darkarrow3683It's frequently stated in games, books, etc that armour interferes with jedi and sith's force abilities.
Armour that can be worn without interfering with force abilities is either relatively light, or is considered very rare.
@@gitghetto ok
This is very nice of Obi-Wan. Anakin,Ahsoka,Plo and many others. I really like this. Brotherhood and friendship.May the Force be with you too😊
To show his love and appreciation for his clones. Something that was controversial amongst jedi
Interesting, as always.
I took it as practical for Jedi like Anakin and Obi Wan who saw so much front line action.
I like the added nuance. Thank you.
Kenobi looks so good with the armour!! He is my favorite along with his master. I think it is awesome because he is the master of defense and that he is also one of the jedi that showed that he cared for the his troopers and wanted to close that gap showing them that he was a soldier just like them.
"If you want Peace, you must prepare for War", it's a very cynical quote, but I believe there is some truth in it. The Grandmaster of the Order after the Battle of Ruson over corrected and is why they ultimately failed by the time of the Clone Wars. IMO, the Old Republic day's of the Jedi were the closet to the "best" form of the Jedi after the days of the formation on Tython, and perfected in the age of Luke.

That opening image of Obi wearing that phase 1 visored trooper helmet goes hard as FUCK 🔥🔥🔥
I assumed it was a sadder reason. I was thinking Aragorn with Boromir's bracers, which would also inspire camaraderie aplenty, I would imagine. Not only is he wearing armor like ours, he's wearing armor that belonged to others like us that he was friends with and carrying a piece of them through the war, being protected by his fallen comrades. Then he could retire the armor in a nice commemorative place after the war ended, probably somewhere the clone had off-handedly mentioned that they liked and wished they could have visited without the shadow of war hanging over it and omg I'm gonna make me cry at 8 in the morning with non-canon Star Wars events from my brain head 😭😭
Hayden dressed in the TCW costume broke me.
This is most likely just going to be down to preference in the future as more characters with the armor have and will likely continue to be added. Cals master was wearing the armor in jedi: fallen order as well.
Jaro (Cal's master) also seemed to have the same fashion sense as Anakin with the dark robes.
I wish Anakin Obi Wan and master Plo continued to wear armour in the clone wars. Also fun fact Master Rahm Kota wore armour as well.
Everyone seems to be forgetting Mace Windo's gauntlets, though I can't remember if he ever wore armor. I think he did.
@@mgk1397 yeah I think people forget cause we only got a few episodes where windu was actually fighting on the frontlines directly
Kit fisto wore gauntlets, adi Gallia, cin drallig, eeth koth,
I think it would be cool to see you guys cover the legends timeline where the attack on the first death star failed, and Lei when to the Empire, around the time Palpatine got sick and was dying
I would imagine there's a pragmatic reason to wearing his trooper's armor: he was on the front lines with them, all the time, and needed the protection armor could afford him. He may have been a jedi, and may have been capable of deflecting blaster bolts with his lightsaber, but in the event he got careless, the armor would at least buy him a second chance.
Title is wrong.
Obi wan wasn't the ONLY one to wear Clone Armor pieces.

The clone wars was the opposite of the Old Republic.
In the Old Republic, the republic’s army were made to fight at the behest of the Jedi order to fight the war against the Sith Empire. It ended with the Ruusan Reformation and the Republic’s army dismantled.
While the clone wars, the Jedi were made to act as generals to the clones at the behest of the Republic. Which ended in Order 66 which saw the Jedi Order forcefully dismantled.
Armoring up in a time of War just to makes sense
In lore reason: makes sense and is very epic and wholesome
real life reason: Budget
Money talks so much...
Real problem was how disconnected Jedi were from the public. It is really easy to frame you if you are mysterious group of scary power
I loved the gesture the unity of we are in this together it feels right
I like how this began very early on, with the Tartakovsky mini series, and then Dave and his team grabbed the concept, ran with it to save some money, and eventually came up with an explanation for it. Great pieces of media are made when you engage with it's shortcomings, and make the solutions work for you.
Obi "Why do I sense we've picked up another pathetic lifeform" Kenobi sure came a long way.
In KOTOR wearing armor nullified force powers, but in KOTOR2 specialized light armor (forgot the names but they came in blue and green) was available for force users.
Jal Shey and Zeishon Sha both have that property.
KOTOR 1 was basically D&D (as in literally it was a digital version of the D20 system that underlay D&D 3.5 at the time) in space. And in 3.5 D&D armour penalises magic users.
@@BlackLiger788 Fun fact: It's a double variation, because it's a variation off the Star Wars RPG system, which itself is based off D&D 3.5. Just an interesting fact for you.
I played both KOTORs as a Jedi guardian with heavy armor ALWAYS. Like 10 times each. Force powers were not nullified by wearing armor.
Pong krell also had armor as a Jedi general
It's kind of neat how the gauntlets helped with protection during the blaster bolt trick the jedi pull off
Could you please make a video explaining the differences and changes that thrawn went through between the events of rebels and Ashoka series?
I honestly like this, and like you said shows a true form of comradery if not respect for the clones. They fight and bleed with the Jedi during the Clone Wars, especially taking down multiple critical threats towards the Republic. It also brings a unique take or trope called 'Kit-Bash' Armor; A blend of Light armor and Heavy armor pieces into a complete armor ensemble. which is very rare if not shown often in Sci-fi battles or Sci-fantasy stories, or if it was it needs to be shown more and this video is one of many prime examples.
Great content 👌👌💯
Thank you 🙌
Is there some form of spray or gas that could be used to make a cloth/leather blaster resistant to some degree even if it's a one time use or something similar?
I see this as Revan giving everyone PTSD during the old replublic era when he picked up that mandalorian mask and started wearing it and being unhinged that they had to rewrite the rules 😂
I love the look of General Kenobi. In fact I use the General Kenobi skin in Battlefront II. Even though it likely doesn’t do anything but look cool within the game’s coding lol
I can see certain sections of armor having some benefit overall to wear particularly in battlefield senarios
See this is always what gets me about these lore videos. The point is that Jedi as a whole CHOSE to embrace this war centric role. Saying it was forced into it takes away from the theme of the Jedi and Republic becoming arrogant, complacent and ineffective.
Palpatine was playing 4d chess while the Jedi and The Republic were playing checkers.
ObiWan had that drip though in the original clones wars show not the reboot.
I used to love that he wore clone armor. Made him look even more tied in with the clones fighting alongside each other
I always viewed it as being practical in a battle. Unless there was a practical reason not to (aka the old kotor games havjng certain armor lock off your force powers) id be wearing as much armor as i could into combat. The gauntlets/ arms would be ideal balance as a "swordsman" between mobility and protection. Plus ya know, everyone needs a good pair of boots in the trenches. And between the arms and boots they end up covering most of the hugh risk joints in the process.
Though its not star wars i took inspiration from this for fallout and my scifi story.
Fallout. My minutemen general would ally the brotherhood and railroad against the institute with multiple strike teams and through both sifes forming what would be called the time of unity. He was gifted the first generation if the coalition of democracies armour that utalised all the factions strengths into armour with the general being the first general of this new faction. Im going to do this for a video when i get the chance.
My scifi novel- the main character during his time with a tribal people, he took inspiration from there culture which his companion from the tribe would share the same belief with the peacekeepers which she joined. So they decided to share eacjothers styles into there armours platings when they were promoted into elite troops for special missions and given new armour they modified. It wasnt thrownd uopn by the higher ups as the peacekeepers were of multiple races and cultures who all shared the same goals of peace amd order for the galexy and encouraged the different details the eilte troops would put on there armour.
Even though the timing is off, I liked dressing Cal Kestis in similar armour in Jedi survivor. I like the idea o Jedi wearing clone armour to try relate themselves to their troops.
It always comes to my mind this topic and despites of this great video, I always thought this was also a need for protection that could be twisted (as it happened) thinking that jedis were looking more like "siths" with non-red lightsabers as in the lore there are not a few ammount of siths with robot/tech limbs or pieces to protect/enhance their capacities or for a survival reason. So, maybe using an armor also felt like jedis were "transforming" into a dark force user that could potencially becomes a sith
Obscure video in a great way
He had a bad feeling about it
Jaro Tapal too, which must have been custom.
Really showed that they was more than allies, but brother's.. even with Rapid aging and a lower survival rate despite better training, they was treated with the same amount of respect as jedi and i loved that.. And even tho they was complete clones of each other, they had unique traits and styles that u couldn't help but admire..
I cant be the only one who wants to see the elbow pieces click into the elbow slots on the upper arm armor
Obi Wan WAS The Master of Defensive Combat.
Too bad he wasn't also a master of keeping those around him from perishing because of his actions and a lack thereof. Worst Jedi in the order by far. Maul, Anakin, Satine, the Jedi on Tatooine, etc.
@@mycelia_ow wow. You really don't like Obi Wan
@@mycelia_ow you probably blame others for your decisions huh?
Obi wearing a clone helmet is way too badass to have not been displayed more.
I most definitely remember Master Windu wearing a variation of Obi wan's clone armor during his battle in the 2004 animated series. Plo Kun also wore it. Obi wan was far from the only Jedi wearing clone armor. that would imply that he was the only general that didn’t treat his men like crap.
I also would’ve straight up left the Jedi to start a reformed practice guided by researched forms of therapeutic force meditations.
Watching the Clone Wars, you can for sure tell who cared for their clones and who didn’t
Kenobi, Windu, and other Jedi who wore armor during the Clone Wars understood that if they were leading troops, those troops would respect them more and tend to follow them more readily if they endured the same dangers and tribulations as themselves.
And donning armor was one of those tribulations.
But also, there was a practical aspect to the Jedi who wore armor.
A battlefield is a dangerous place.
Jedi were not immune to getting hit by energy weapons or shrapnel anymore than the troops they were leading into those battlefields were.
A Jedi might be able to stop blaster bolts in mid air, or pick up people or objects and hurl them, or choke or shove an opponent via their connection to and manipulations of the Force.
But the Force was not an armor plated bubble.
Just as Kenobi told Luke many years after the Clone Wars had ended.
The Force surrounds and flows through objects and binds both objects AND people together.
So therefore.
A blaster bolt or errant piece of shrapnel on a battlefield might also be flowing through the Force and could intercept or collide with a Jedi's body, which was just as much a part of that Force flow as everything else was.
And too.
In a traditional sense.
A knight...whether a Jedi, Sith, or anything else.
Wears battle armor INTO battle.
This would've been true of the very first Jedi in Star Wars lore or in real life, on our present Earth.
That armor might take different forms.
And in some time periods could even be as simple as religious robes or clothing.
Depending on the weapons a knight might face.
But it's still armor nonetheless.
And a knight really isn't worthy of the title without it.
It's as much a part of who a knight is as his sword or other weapons are.
No matter how religious a knight is or isn't.
Or whether or not they can manipulate things telepathically via the "Force" like the Star Wars Jedi can.
palpatine just hating on the drip for real
Genndy Tartakovsky was the first to put obi wan in clone armor. He didn't do it to save money , he did it because it was badass. Genndy's clone wars cartoon will always be the superior clone wars imo
THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS
Pocket sand! **throws sand**
Obi wan in the old Clone Was series was basically just a trooper with a cape
He even wore the helmet XD
Kenobi is the best. Just the best
I like how you addres how ineffective body armor was in this movie: I think I spelt that wrong
TLDW:
Obi wan wanted to show a good gesture to the clones to let them know they matter. He stopped wearing because the council ask them to stop for the reputation of the jedi
Obiwan is the greatest hero of starwars. Change my mind.
Forget about obi one sayimg its hard to block shrapnel and having a bit of protection is not the worst idea. Or something to that effect.
Iirc in the clone wars series most jedi generals had the cline armor bits
Armored Monks always look badass.
I think Jedi should only fight wars that the Force wills it like Sith Wars and should wear some armor for it will make be more mortal to the public
6:05, I appreciate you shining the light on the CGI aspect, but allow me to touch further on this, it's not really cloth animation, it's more like cloth simulation. And the reason why it costs so much is because that's actually handled by a different department that specializes with the physics and dynamics, plus the addition of lighting and rendering, this eats up a lot of GPU usage, which is already costing tens of thousands of dollars.
I always thought it was because after geonosis the Jedi realized how in prepared for the war they were. A crutch
I am a big Clone trooper/ Stormtrooper fan, I think Jedi who wore Clone armor looks bad ass and looks the part of a General.
I feel it makes the Jedi Generals look more Uniform and really show their equally serving the Republic as its Defenders.
I love the Imperial era because everyone had a job in the Empire, a rank, a roll to play, Sith Inquisitors were similar rank to how the jedi were to the clones.
It enhances the sense of meaning and purpose and also Structure and order within the Military of the Republic and Empire. And when you think of Generals, you think of them as wearing Armor and welding swords but a prestigious suit of armor or sword.
It's like sign of their rank and it looks so cool!!
2:38 - 3:03 THEY WERE GOOD MEN!!!
I ordered that General Kenobi hot toys figure INSTANTLY months ago😢
Leave it to a Jedi like Kenobi to see prudence an being always prepared to play "D" ESPECIALLY during time of extended brutal warfare... an the High Council to preach victim waiting to happen. Mentality. On top of showing he was no better then his troops an actually respecting them as individuals seems Ole Ben was one of the good ones.
Jedi can deflect blasters but they sure ain't gonna deflect shrapnel and blunt force trauma 🗣🗣
I think Obi-Wan and Anakin were too pragmatic and simply believed that they needed some armor to protect places they didn't want to worry about. Its a nice touch to be a jedi knight and have some armor to reflect that, all while, weaving the backstory and inspirations behind it after the fact.
I think this is a much better explaination. It's more than just having extra armor to protect themselves.
I always fantasies about a new reality of Star Wars where the Jedi Order survived Order 66.
“Take inspiration from everywhere, else it becomes rigid and stale”
Because it looked cool. And because it opened up the opportunity to have different styles and variations of marketable items like toys, minis, and shirts.
He had a helmet too
The Jedi armor was originally a concept from the original Clone Wars cartoon
At 2:11 Obi-Wan looks like Mark Hamill a bit.
The out of universe explanation makes sense for 3D, but what about in the original clone wars cartoon when some Jedi wore armor? It seems like they had the in lore explanation prior, and kept it.
It's still easier to animate armor rather than robes in 2d cartoons.
you also forgot to mention that by making the jedi switch to stop wearing armor it made them easier to kill when the time came
Didn't mace windu at least wear the bracers?
Had they told me to take off the armor, I would’ve told them that the soldiers the republic had made needed peaceful role models. The best way to have done that would be to show that I was one of them, and thus vice versa.
Jedi Guardians would wear armor during the Old Republic era.
when i was little i thought the image of obi wan wearing a clone helmet was a clone now as an adult its much cooler
If you haven't already covered this topic, I would like to know where holocrons came from and how they're made
Well maybe the council should pay for a higher CGI budget.
Interesting idea. I thought it was more about practicality. They were in a war and outnumbered. Wearing armour makes sense.
The clone armor gauntlets had another benefit. They were a place to mount their com units.
