This week, Ethan, Jack and Edwin try to find a scrap car to save and put back on the road before it ends up being crushed or dismantled for parts. We'll tour Silverlake Automotive Recycling to see what we can find, and even go around their pick and pull yard to see what parts we can find for our rescued car too.

Let’s change the throwaway culture to a repair and rebuild culture!
keep dreaming
what? 🤦🤦🤦 if you change this culture for this many car companies are dead. They profits comes from changing old car to new. and it must live shortly and parts must cost high prices.

Was great to have Jack, Edwin and Ethan at our Silverlake Depot! Also really pleased to see the 106 back on the road and hopefully a great working relationship with Car Throttle to come!

Nice one Jake
4 months later and the Porsche we see at 2:38 is in AutoAlex's unit. So it really happened, CT made the final 3 presenters walk away and team up with Alex again. CarThrottle, you've had it. RIP.
Came back here to see this as well - absolutely love that they’ve broken away. I wonder if the new series will just be saving scrapped cars?
I wouldn’t complain about that at all!
@@damonlangley6615 it's a shame that CarThrottle landed in the wrong hands and is now dead because of total morons in management. This channel became good because Adnan gave Alex the freedom to do whatever he wanted as long as it put money in the bank. Current owners should've given their video crew the same trust and budget. There is something about saving little nugget hatchbacks from the scrappers that really warms my heart..
I love it. Saving little nuggets and it's like animals going extinct. We need to protect them
Seeing the 106 'Nana Diesel' back on the road just warms my heart up. It's as if she's happily skipping along on the countryside road after being on the chopping block. I love the early 106's.

@bluerazor7049 is it the 1.4 or 1.5 version ?
this could be a series, saving cars one by one...
I hope they could save mine. I've spent a lot of money on my car and it's still not fixed. It's been off road for two years and I've just had nothing but trouble and being messed about by multiple garages, the last one caused my car to have a no fuel fault and wont accept any responsibility and had my car for months saying they will get to the bottom of the fault but never did and still charged me for their time so hoping car throttle will see this message and hope they can save my car from going to the scrapyard. I feel they are my last hope.
Yes yes yes!
Save ALL THE CARS!! 😃
Please make this a series. This one was a bit to easy
That's an awesome ideal! Come on car throttle this is right up your street
Cannot describe how happy this video made me. Please make this a series.

Same!! At some point I realized I had a huge smile on my face watching the boys leave with that little car and I thought "damn I really love cars, mate"
Edwin is like a car wizard historian. I learn so much from him. Always pointing out interesting shit about cars.
I can't get over how clean that car is, amazing find!
Its fucking lush, would be an absolute crime to scap it
that interior and even exterior is too mint to be scrapped@@Yom_Bristol
True, I imagine this car is soon going to be worth a lot more than what they paid for it if there is only 7 left of them now!

We receive a vast array of vehicles in our yard from insurance companys/police/council and alike
You've just bagged yourself a very rare car! That's got the 1.4 TUD3 engine, they're very slow but the MPG they achieve is INSANE and the engines are practically bomb proof! That engine held the Guinness world record for the furthest distance driven on a gallon of fuel for over a decade. It achieved 104MPG (87MPG-US) when it was fitted to the Citroen AX in 1989 and was only knocked off the top spot by the Peugeot 207 (IIRC) with the 1.4 HDi (DV4) engine.
What's even better is if its fitted with the Bosch fuel pump rather than the Lucas, you can run that on 100% cooking oil which makes running it even cheaper!
Please make this a regular series with that place! Absolute goldmine of content there
It breaks my heart to see so many cool and interesting cars destined for the scrap yard
I used to have one like this. The power is enough because there's little weight, pretty much bulletproof engine, I'd have one again if I thought I could fit!
Im surprised the minor is there, its an actual classic, in its current condition its at least worth 2k and done up probably 5k. Who decided to scrap that, they must have been mad.
@@jh565bb It might have been abandoned, pretty sure it'll sell at auction.
This the Saxo and the Clio on a NC 500 road trip? That would be one hell of a series
Yes, it would be absolutely fantastic
Given the performance, it’s a 3 week trip up there 😂

How such a clean car ended up at the scrap yard is insane !!!
What an incredible car!! Its in beautiful condition as well! Love the seats, carpet, paint, everything about it is so perfect!
300 quid for a low number special edition 106 is a steal, I know as my Aztec SI was a lot more, christ even my 1.1 series 2 was more than twice that. The 1.3 diesels in these do like to blow a head gasket now and then, and they make about 49hp, but the mpg from them is immense. Nearly bought a key west myself, the colour (and the green seatbelts) are pure 90s excellence. Love it !
They never made a 1.3 diesel, it was either 1.4, like this one or a 1.5D which came out around 1995/96 time.
@@trigsretromotors theyre 1360cc. Sometimes people say 1.3 sometimes people sat 1.4. Either way my point was the smaller of the two diesel engines liked to blow head gaskets more often than you'd like. I think i might call the TUD3 a 1.36 litre engine from now on
@@SunnyD1865the later 1.5d improved on that issue massively
I was kinda worried about what would happen to CT with the departure of Alex... but I actually think everyone benefited from it. CT seems to be better than ever, and Alex is happy doing his own thing. It's like one of those rare instances where everyone wins.
Based on the viewership, it don't seem to be the case.
Idkn really, I feel like quality here dropped
@@Orcawhale1 Has the viewership dropped?
Despite loving Alex on CT i've never got into his new channel and unsubbed after a few months. I feel like these three were just like the old top gear trio and did best when they were bouncing off each other.
@@Matt_Alaric Yep.
this needs to be a series!! some of the cars even from a quick glance deserve a revamp or a new story, the old porsches the rare japanese cars and the old boats were mint to see 😮💨
I’m actually jealous, I had one of these as my first car, I loved it. Handled like it was on rails, did galactic miles on a tank of fuel and nothing ever went wrong with it. I think the lack of performance and powered steering would be challenging for a Daily now, but I’d still love another one!
It's like seeing stacks on stacks of corpses. It just isn't right. So many of them can be saved!
Did you watch the video?
Used car prices in the UK are fairly cheap, but if anything goes wrong the fixing costs are ridiculous on top of yearly MOT fixes. That's why so many used cars that could still be on the road, just end up in the scrap yard.
some look like they're not even 5 years old lol
How can you have an old or rare car and take the scrap money then sell it to someone who wants it and will give more money I'm looking for a 106 at the moment can't find a good one and that was going to get broken up
@@user-ou2kv4pf8bkinda hard to do without the owner. I bet most of those got there because of insurance, police or repo
These kind of cars really are the perfect first cars for new drivers. It teaches you how to drive, how to anticipate (not much power and the brakes are less responsive but also less weight so it is a lot more manageable) and you can really feel the road while driving one. Also most rich dudes in fancy cars actually give you a wide birth because A. they think you have no money so they are deadly afraid of you or B. used to own one and feel nostalgic about it. 10/10 would recommend and make mandatory for new drivers.
I have a feeling the insurance on that for a 17 year old will be dearer than a newer more safer car.
@@welephant2013 I pay around 45 euro's a month for the insurance for my 25 year old Clio (Mandatory Third Party liability insurance and optional passenger insurance). Your mileage may very depending on country, local laws, your age and driving history etc.

I love this trio. We need more regularly videos with a of them, the chemistry between them is nice
Would pay 300 just for the green seat belts
If this was a Porsche you'd be paying 3'000 for those belts!
Loved meeting Edwin, Ethan and Jack on behalf of Silverlake 😊😊😊😊
This had me smiling wider than I have in a long while. Well done, guys.
What an epic find! Seeing you all in mint seat belts was hilarious. Great premise for an episode 👏
That’s a 1.4Diesel not a 1.1. I have a similar age and mileage 106, that visits shows in the South West. You would be amazed the attention it receives. Good job! 😀
1.4 and actually not the same as the Saxo, but as the Citroën AX, the later S2 was the same as the Saxo.
Init it bothered me slightly everytime they said it 😂
The later had a 1.5td and early had the 1.4. Bothered me that they said 1.1 as I’ve had every iteration of the 106 and a saxo vtr also, and would have loved to have the diesel version because it pulled like a train, though it couldn’t get to a ton. And would happily run veg oil all day long. My saxo was the most fun but I miss each and every one of them equally. Good little cars, but absolutely useless on electrics lol
Thank you I'm not the only one that was irritated they said 1.1 😅
@@samstevenson2520 yes they later changed to a 1527cc, although it was never turbo charged, certainly from factory. It was however a much more responsive unit. 😀

Bonus points because this one is green, and a special edition - two of my favorite things.
What a bargain lads, please make sure this gets cherished and cared for.
This was such a wholesome video to watch. Definitely want to see a road trip with the the three of you, the 106, Saxo and Clio. South of France maybe?
im really liking the direction the channels been going with the past few videos, taking old cars that didnt have a chance at life, and renewing it! very entertaining to watch!
That car will live on for a while longer I'm sure, it looks mint.
If they keep it alive for another 10 years it'll probably be very desirable. It's from 1993 and any diesel car that's over 40 years old is exempt from London's ULEZ rules. Considering the condition we've seen so far, it's probably not that unlikely that this car will see this happening.
This absolutely warms my heart ❤
Keep it up guys!! Would love to see more of this.
Seriously do more of these! I find that yard so freaking cool. Last pick and pull? They are everywhere in the USA! I'd love to be able to pick up cheap older cars but insurance in Florida is now the highest in the nation. I have a 91 Prelude and they want almost 1800 a year now for full coverage. It's insanity. Keep up these types of videos. Become partners with this company please!
I honestly feel like after Alex left the channel struggled a little bit but the content over the last few months had been bang on! Love seeing not only buying the cars but making the progress with them. Keep it up! 👌
nah only one of them is decent, other 2 are toff uni media kids.
@breathoffreshair7314 Got to be honest the educational background of the channel hadn't come into my thinking.
They and their content seems genuine and I think it shows.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion though 👍
@@superflyfarmboy The reason i mention it is because 2 of them dont really have a clue about cars, yet are involved with a car youtube channel .
Hence why they struggled after alex left as he was the only one of them with any know how about cars.
And as someone who has fluttered btween working class and middle class worlds, the middle class uni kids generaly are clueless when it comes to cars. So thats why they struggled.
Basically theyre not real car guys . Take away the channel and they arent going to be involved with modifying cars again in their lives, i bet money on it.
As a fellow owner of a diesel 106 this is the happiest ive ever been watching a CT video.
Mines a version 2 106 but the 1.5 diesel engines are mega reliable, economical and has taken me hundreds of miles in day on motorways with no sweat on many road trips while also being good fun on smaller roads, please give this car everything it deserves

Great episode! I want to see more of this car. I love when you guys get cheap nuggets and this one feels like a little gem. Good work saving it from the wrecker!
I love this. I’ve thought for a while that the days of picking up a usable car for less than £500 were a thing of the past but you just proved that if you think outside the box it’s still possible. Nice find by the way. I love these little old 106’s
Cracking purchase
They were great little cars
Glad it's another one saved instead of these little gems being crushed
It's absolutely mad how those structures can hold those cars like a shelf built for model cars. It's great how the Polo saloon, LS400 and Colt were saved. Just shows that there are people who want them on the road still. The 106 is a gem, give it a full detailing and it'll be a proper survivor. I also noticed a 4-door Mk2 Golf that looked to be in great condition. There are a lot of Mk2 Golfs puttering around in my area. Keep it stock, don't change anything on it!
I like how you’re keeping it stock (except for when you need replacement parts of course). It’s really true to its heritage.
That little 106 is lovely.
With such low miles, and what looks like good overall condition, with the year’s MOT there absolutely must be a profit of at least £500 profit in it. How about a trading up series?
Every video you three post has been brilliant, I smile the whole time and love how different each one is, keep it up boys!

Love it. My first car was an L reg 106 XND Graduate which I wrote off when I was 18. That was a mighty 1.4 non-turbo diesel. This video brings back a lot of memories.

Probably only if you had people pick them up directly, shipping them would not
I'm chugging along in a '98 Clio. Sure the mileage isn't that great but it's solid, easy to repair and fun. Also while a lot of it could be re-used it could also be re-used more efficiently every year it doesn't get trashed.
