    I’m in between the honeymoon phase and starting to actually want and crave more nutrient dense foods. Today all I wanted was oranges and sweet potatoes but didn’t have access to them.
    So tomorrow i will have those! I made a savory cream of veggie soup that I can’t wait to enjoy.

    I was heavily influenced by media and magazines toxic portrayal or thin women and models as “the ideal” image. I became obsessed with dieting at about 12 years old and by 15 was in full fledged raging grips of an eating disorder. 15 years later, started on the path to recovery which was in about 1980, I’m now 68 years old and have enjoyed being fully recovered since.
    I discovered intuitive eating on my own after suffering for 12 years with an eating disorder. I never got counseling for the ED and honestly, I think I came close to dropping dead on many occasions. For the first month I used “self talk” and I definitely asked the question am I hungry and am I full and by month three I pretty much had it mastered.. It’s something you practice and get better and better at. After all, it took years for the media to teach us not to listen to our own bodies and minds, and indeed to create a separation between our bodies and minds. It is key to understand the concept of separation between mind and body because going back to listening to your own body and mind cues again is the most important part of understanding. I try telling people about intuitive eating but it’s not easy for people to understand. I have had open heart surgery to repair a damaged valve which was successful, however, I believe the damage was caused by the ED.

    This is an incredibly valuable video. Learning IE alone means i have no reference for anything I'll feel/experience & this will help me stay on track & navigate obstacles.

    A little tip.. when you eat little food.. your body changes your taste buds. So this is why taco bell doesn't taste the same now as it does when you are dieting. I noticed this when I was fasting. Foods I hated before tasted amazing when I was hungry but not whn I wasn't. I.e. Sardines. I think this is something your body does to make you want to eat any food even if it has a bad taste. This is a good thing when you start getting enough every day you become more picky.

    Phase 2 for me! It's definitely tricky. I have my hunger and fullness clues down and most every day I choose nutrient foods and meals except a few days ago when I ate 8 cookies, 2 mini twix, and 2 Reece peanut snack bars then had diarrhea and upset stomach bc I haven't ate like that in the last 6 weeks..oh and then today at the superbowl party when I had 3 pieces of chcolate cake and a plate full ot chips and dip đŸ˜© but I am trying to hang in there. It didn't turn to a binge, I'm not skipping meals and am going to keep on trucking with my intuitive meals. I do crave actually healthy foods most of the time already but it's hard not to feel guilt when I eat 3 pcs of cake and a plate of chips in one sitting. The thing is I only ate that and that volume bc I was listening to my body. I haven't been restricting so I don't know why I needed to have 3 pcs of cake and that many chips. I am guessing bc I was restricting previously and now listening to my body it temporarily wants that much. I am hoping over time as my body realizes that most of the time we make healthy choices, sometimes we choose cookies and cake, we don't binge, we don't restrict and skip meals it's ok and don't end up needing 3 pcs of cake and plate of chips etc. Its scary on so many levels...am I going to gain weight, am I going to over do it and mess up how well I've done over the last several weeks, why do I go not craving sweets for a week or two to then eating 3 pcs at once...😱 I hope I figure it out

    I'm trying to get skinny though. I'm not trying to be rude but you're also overweight so I don't think it works.

      Intuitive eating isn't about getting skinny. So you probably are looking for different advice than what's offered in the video.

      @@wednesdaymonroe To have a better relationship with food if people feel like they don't have a good one currently. People can be any size and have an eating disorder or just feel like they want to improve in this area.

      @jalee20 but how can you have a good relationship with food if you eat to the point you're overweight though?

    • @jalee20
      @jalee20 Pƙed rokem +3

      @@wednesdaymonroe There are so many reasons that someone may be overweight that's not due to overeating. You believe what you want thought. I hope you have a good life.

    Not sure if this is worth anytjing but : Ive been ready to flame this whole mindset thing after exploring weight loss/better eating and surprisingly I feel more aligned to this then I initially thought I would, in the sense that I think a temporary diet to lose weight is very silly and in many cases potentially worse then not dieting at all (and going back to old eating habits) ultimately through my relatively short better eating journey (which has resulted in roughly 30 pounds lost so far) Im not dieting in a sense of restricting or banning certain things, just changing behaviors such as sleeping earlier (eliminating late night snacking and binging) eating heavier early in the day and tapering off, NOT drinking calories as much as I can avoid (especially soda!!) while being reasonable with natural juices (fruit and vegetable, little to no added sugar) focusing on proteins, while practicing moderation in healthy fats and carbs (fruits and vegetables are great carbs) and I just find the great whole foods I really enjoy while keeping it in the boundries of a rough calorie limit for the day. I LOVE fruits like berries and apples and I could probably eay pounds of them a day, but I just work on fitting them in a reasonable calorie frame for my size and activity level and its been wonderful! People who my weight loss sometimes ask or almost accuse me of being on a diet but I really wouldnt say Im "on a diet" at all... Im just making more reasonable choices and not overconsuming or eating stuff just for the sake of it tasting good, keeping sight of liquid calories (milk, juice) and sauce calories (mayo and ketchup calories and sugars vs mustard and hot sauce lack of sugar ect) has helped me so much it doesnt feel like I even have to try after a few weeks of getting a good sense of food proportions (calories) and buying fruits and vegetables snacks at the store rather then Doritos and Coke. To me it seems your shining a light on the fact that a temporary diet for temporary results isnt the way to go, and rather getting a grasp of your appropriate caloric requirements and filling it with the best healthy whole foods your taste buds are happy to consume is by far the best long term! Anyway, the video made me happy and i appreciate it thank you!
