Picture today's NBA, a melting pot of talent from around the world, and then rewind to a time when the court was far less diverse. In the 1940s, long before the NBA we know, one player broke racial barriers but faced a torrent of prejudice that eventually pushed him out of the game. As we delve into this untold story, prepare for a sobering look at the challenges that plagued the first Asian player in NBA history. Welcome to a narrative that's not just about basketball, but a poignant tale of resilience and loss.

Bullied? Call a spade a spade.....racism is the correct term
Completely Agreed. Our apologies.

NBA Insider yes, never heard of the dude
Interesting!
If you don't mind us asking, what is it that you loved most about the video/channel?
@@NBAInsider You agree, yet the title remains the same.
Bullying can be racist too, and both the title AND video make it clear this was racist Bullying. You guys aren't wrong, but the titles fine.

Saddened to hear that Wataru Misaka passed away on November 20, 2019 at the age of 95.
Wow just last year!! I just figure it out him today
Nice long life
What’s sad about living that long
I dont know how america didn’t side with the nazis considering how much this country loves everything white, blond and blue eyes
Lol
I been saying that for years! They even hated on the irish who had red hair, italians, and polish!
We pretty much did side with the Nazis if you think about it
It was more about power with amer
Look up the history of eugenics and Smedley Butler. There were industrialists who attempted to overthrow the US government in order to put a fascist government in its place but they were exposed before they could pull it off.
Wataru Misaka is still hanging in there at 94 years of age!
He really is!
Tre, is this your first time hearing about Wataru Misaka?
@Jamir Temjen that racist but yet true xD
@@NBAInsider Actually, no. Since he hasn't played in 70 years, people would assume that he probably isn't alive anymore. Impressive story and impressive life!
He needs to be inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame despite for his short tenure.
Whatever happened to the old narrator of this channel
I knew of Wataru Misaka but never saw actual footage of him playing. Thanks for the video. As a Japanese growing up in 1980's Australia, I experienced quite alot of racism. I couldn't imagine what people like Wataru went through in 1940's USA, especially during the war.

NBA Insider, I find this story compelling given it was during an era where Japanese Americans faced forced internment camps and discrimination during the war. Australia where I live and am a citizen of had internment camps too for Japanese Australians during the war. No doubt the Japanese Imperial army committed alot of atrocities during the war so it's understandable that the Japanese living abroad at the time faced such harsh treatment. As a basketball lover all my life, I see alot of myself in Wataru so that is probably why I really enjoyed your video. Looking forward to more great content from this channel, you guys rock NBA Insider!

Knicks always cut the asian guys. Jeremy lin.
They really do. Is this your first time hearing about Wataru Misaka?
Knicks never cut him - they were literally just about to before he turned into Linsanity. They simply couldn't afford to keep him.

skyline Melo being injured is what started linsanity

Jeremy Lin is of Taiwanese descent, Misaka was of Japenese descent, how is Misaka succeeding in the NBA the same as Linsanity?
Conrad Shauqifue it’s a joke, don’t be so serious lol
Don't take it too literally. It's the idea that an Asian took the stage at the NBA level.

You are absolutely right. I just started during this covid19 period to feature Asian American Athletes from the past and present. My name is Harry Du Young you can see my posting on my FB page. I had yet to feature Misaka which i soon will. I want to put it in museums, sports events, award ceremonies, etc.
*Take it from someone who served in the army recently. Getting Staff Sergeant in 2 years is one hell of an accomplishment.*
Back then it was easier to rank up my stepdad got E-6 in 2 years while he was in Airborne during Vietnam
Stephen May I understand that was easier back in the day but, if you look at the history (even back. then) getting your E-6 in 2 year was extremely rare.
During war time the chances are bigger bcoz there are more missions, therefore more opportunities to prove yourself. And a lot of soldiers die too, so wartime ww2 is different.

Yes, I wish someone would cover Ralph Sampson, and how his career was mismanaged by his coaches in the NBA. At 7'4", he was a true athletic positionless player who would have fared better in todays game. Yet Coaches misunderstood his game, and forced him to play back to the basket Center/PF. He could also shoot long range, run the floor, and handle the ball as well as any guard in his era. Don Nelson forced him to play hurt up in Golden State, which derailed his career. He was Dirk, and Brandon Ingram before there was faceup big Guys. Thanks for asking.
Seems very interesting. We will be happy to look into that for you.
And no problem. We love interacting with amazing people such as yourself!

I'm not a film student, but I really liked your visual display. Good filters, rotation of certain scenes. Good, brief synopsis of the history of the time. Good clips to document your statements. Good pace. The video stayed active, much like how all those annoying youtubers just cut themselves talking constantly, but yours is with visuals and the narrative stays steady. So the visual keeps you engaged while you can listen at a good pace. I don't know how to describe it man. That's the best I could do.
