  • Is eBay a good place to get 2 dollar bills if you can't get them from the bank? Find out what they go for in this video! Here's a hint: what sold on eBay are overpriced enough that you should sell your own - and that's what we did! How much money did we make selling our own $2 bills? Perhaps you can all become just like the part time pickers and make money selling your own.

      Your bank should have no problem getting them for you, but you may have to wait a few days for the delivery from the Federal Reserve.
      There should be NO extra charges to you, because banks transfer cash all the time.

    I use twos a lot, and the thought has occurred to me to sell them on eBay to make s a small profit, but I feel that would be highly unethical. But it's amazing what people are will to pay for all kinds of banknotes that worth no more their face value. I'd rather #usethetwo.

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  Před 4 lety +3

      I agree - use the two instead of selling it. That said, there's nothing unethical about listing them on eBay. If people want to pay more than they're worth, that's they're prerogative. You never know, maybe they're okay with a markup for convenience sake or another factor. The guy who's up over $2,000 in my video sure ain't complaining.

    If you’re outside the US and looking for $2s, there’s no harm in visiting your local travel exchange and asking if they have any. The one I work for doesn’t routinely order them, but we do get them back from people returning from the States, though I think we can also order them on request. In any case, you’ll only need to pay the exchange rate, which should be quite a bit less than the markups people use on eBay!

      @@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary It’s definitely worth a try! Often supermarkets tend to contract out their currency exchange operations to the same exchange companies that operate at airports - in the case of the UK and at a lot of other places around the world, that’s Travelex, but some operate theirs in house, and some banks and other facilities will also run their own exchanges, so there’s definitely quite a bit of variety out there in terms of operators, I’d say :)

      I use dollar-bill-sized pieces of cardboard that I've cut into that shape. The bill goes in a sleeve for protection and there's cardboard on either side. A bubble mailer adds extra protection, as might a waterproof mailer. But if the bill is in a sleeve, it should be safe from the elements if the package gets wet. For a single bill though, a regular mailing envelope with some lighter cardboard will keep the envelope from bending, and also make the shipping no more than 88 cents.

      Welcome to the channel! The video I'm pasting to a link to at the end of this answer will give you an overview about many $2 bills' value - with a section on red seals bills - but it all depends on several factors. A local coin & currency dealer might be a place to start, but they will be looking for pristine-condition bills and won't have much interest overall (in my opinion). I'd really suggest eBay, and I'd say to search completed items to see what these bills have sold for in certain conditions. List a group of all of them (or two separate sets of 10) instead of selling them one by one. czcams.com/video/4YzENRcFS7I/video.html

    I believe ebay takes a 10% cut of all sales, plus you usually have to pay a credit card processing fee when receiving payment of 3%. That probably comes out to $43.50, and since you sold $42 worth of bills, you most likely only made about $1.50 profit.

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  Před 4 lety +1

      You're almost on point. They charged the buyer tax for some reason, so I made a few extra bucks there. When you order from the bank, ask for a strap of 50 bills ($100), or more conveniently, a strap of 100 ($200). Those will be untouched bills, straight from the Fed, not only in crisp condition but also with sequential serial numbers. If the bank gives you any negativity, tell them you're doing a fundraiser for kids and they should no longer have an excuse not to order them. They are ordering new money all the time, so adding $2s is only a small inconvenience. They should be able to get them for you very easily. Good luck!

      Sometimes. They often have brand new straps from the Fed, which are serial number-sequential by default. If someone came in and deposited a bunch of them beforehand, and you get those in a withdrawal, you get what you get.

    Your profit calculations are wrong. Ebay fees, IRS fees, State tax fees, shipping.. the profit isn't as high as one thinks, especially if the orders are 1 at a time.

      I don't recall there being a specific profit calculator in this video. The idea was merely to show what the item can sell for over face. eBay does take a whopping 13.25% for currency sales, but you can add a shipping cost with a handling markup and actually profit there as well. That would cover the paltry IRS and state tax fees, which amount to nothing when you write off your shipping supplies.

    2:50 Okay I am going to have to stop you there. Are you sure you are the same guy who went around and learned about $2s? Bicentinial bills are Not - I repeat definitely 100% Not -- worth just $2 each lol. And if you think they are feel free to stop by anytime and I'll buy them from you for $2.10 and get you lunch to boot! And that's Friedberg disagreeing with you, not me, but I am willing to put my money where his mouth is lol.
    On average... on Average! In EF40 - which those bills would likely grade above - '76 $2 [assuming none are stars or have fancy serials of course] are valued at $3.33 and a lot like that is usually going to have consecutive bills since they appear to have been stored together and are in similar condition as one another. Without even taking the extra 10 seconds to look at what is bringing them additional value (like you should have done considering you are making a video on it lol) I would bid $2.25 or $2.50 per on that lot, less cost of shipping, and that leaves me room to make money haha. No matter what though, not $2 each.

      In general, most $2 bills from 1976 are worth $2. There are over 400 million of them. Sure, there are people like you you will pay $2.10. Sure, there are people on eBay who think consecutive serial numbers are worth paying more for, but that's a situation where it's worth what a collector will pay for it. Outside of those fancy serial numbers and star notes, take a bicentennial $2 bill to your local coin & currency dealer, and if he doesn't find anything unique about it, and of course if it isn't a high-grade, pristine bill, he will tell you he's not interested. Of course, you're the same person who thinks they're rare, so I get where you're coming from. The point is if you go around thinking that just because a $2 bill says 1976 on it that you've got something more valuable, you're going to be disappointed more often than not.

    Isn't this illegal?

      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  Před 2 lety

      No, otherwise eBay would pull every one of these auctions down. Bills considered "collectible" can be sold. You can find bills of all denominations on eBay - many will be older bills that are more rare or have something unique about them.

      You're doing something very wrong on eBay. When I sell something on eBay for $100, I pay about $6, plus I add the shipping costs into the fee at a markup, so I make some of that back. Got it bimbo?
