    Hey John! Such a great tutorial! Is all of this working in the free standalone? Or do I have to use it within AE in order to bring in a logo? Is this also possible for video with alpha channel?? Thanks a lo!!

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před rokem +1

      This is premium Particle Illusion only, as you can't bring in an external source to work on in the Standalone. So there's no alpha channel to work on.
      In AE you can use anything with an alpha. Lots of possibilities!

      The only way to use an external camera is through the After Effects comp camera. There is currently no way to match directly in Particle Illusion with an imported camera. I will let the development team know about this feature request.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před rokem

      Make sure you download the right installer. It will be the Continuum installer for Adobe (borisfx.com/downloads/?product=continuum&host=adobe ) and then follow this video > borisfx.com/videos/howto-install-continuum-adobe-windows/ If you bought the Premium Particle Illusion filter then your license will only work with that filter. You can choose at install to remove unlicensed effects if you want to. Hope this helps.

    I can make a png file of text from either Photoshop or paint, but is there a way to place my png file into PI, so I can do the same thing as you're doing? I don't know if it makes a difference, but I have the standalone program. I have to follow directions from your video and I'm not sure if my question makes sense? Thank you

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před rokem

      Thanks for the question. The standalone version cannot import files like that. You need the premium plugin version to be able to do that. It offers a lot of other options not available in the standalone too : borisfx.com/products/particle-illusion/#upgrade
      There is a limited time discount code on this too. If you purchase an annual subscription, you can get 50% off with the code : PIPLUGIN50 . (This code will expire soon).

    Hello @BorisFXco --- I am able to follow along EXCEPT for bringing it back to either Premiere or After Effects. How do I get the original logo to blow away?

    • @Motionworks
      @Motionworks Před 4 měsíci

      In the tutorial, I selected my After Effects layer (the original text/logo) inside After Effects and applied Particle Illusion. When you say "bring back" I'm not sure what you mean, as PI is directly applied to the source layer. Regards, John.

    Hey, is there a way to create a emitter based in a mask? Not only the borders, but the whole shape? i remember i was able to do that in the first version of PI, and i wonder if there is a way after BorisFX relaunched it please :D

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před 10 měsíci

      Yes, we can do that with Particle Illusion 2023.5. There are lots of new mask-based emitter styles available now. John talks about how to do some of this with text but the principle is the same whether it is text or a mask. Check out the Particle Masking section in the Particle Illusion plugin parameters. hello and thank you for this wonderful video. I was able to follow and everything. When i apply, i can see the particle dissolve working perfectly, but the image is still there even after the effect. like there is solid image or layer under the dissolving image, seems like there is a second layer, but there isnt. If not for that, works perfectly. Any idea why ? thank you

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před 2 měsíci +1

      If you're seeing it in Particle Illusion, make sure you click on the button at the top of the Viewer, to the left of Render View, and choose Composite over Black. It's probably set to Composite over Source, so you're seeing the original image all the time.
      When you return to your host application (probably AE if you're watching this video), change the Composite > Composite Style to Alpha + Apply Mode

    Hi! Thank you for the tutorial! I’m wondering why particle illusion shows up in my AE, but when I launch it, I don’t have any nodes, and i don’t have the extra particle library l’ve downloaded? If i don’t go through After Effects, and I open PI on its own, I then can see the full library and the nodes. Do you know why this is happening? I was trying to follow along with your tutorial, but I can’t work inside After Effects. Any advice you may have would be very appreciated. Thank you!

    Hello friend, how do you add the logo to the layer?

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před rokem

      Hi there. If you're using the plug-in version of Particle Illusion, you just add that effect to your logo layer. This doesn't work with the standalone version as that cannot be applied to a layer.

  • @Sormad
    @Sormad Před rokem

    It's great with some PI stuff again 🙂 If I want particles with transparent BG without Black particles around the text, I need to render instead of apply right? (I love PI, but in resolve/fusion I end up going to host particles to get this effect to work - I wish though that I didn't have to do this).

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před rokem +1

      In the host, change the Composite Style to Alpha + Apply Mode. If the Apply Mode is set to None, it will just render the particles with alpha.
      Just so you know, Particle Illusion and Fusion aren't best friends and we don't have it as a supported host. The other pages in Resolve work better for PI.

    • @Sormad
      @Sormad Před rokem +1

      @@BorisFXco I can't believe I missed this one (aware about the fusion issue) - In resolve working from a "render in place" and the settings you mentioned, makes it a much better experience. Thx.

  • @Cross-CutFilms

    Could this same effect be applied to subjects in a video shot? I was thinking if the subjects don't move much, then I can use an AI program to convert them to a 3d object for use in particle illusion 🤷, or a simpler idea would just be masking the subjects out and applying this effect. If Boris or someone could let me know, then that would be much appreciated 😘.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před 6 měsíci

      You're on the right lines yourself. Don't go the 3d route, but make a mask of the object you want to disintegrate. Precomp that layer to bake in the alpha, and then you can follow this video's technique from there.

    Hello, is there anyway to shapeshift one logo to another with this effect?
    As in, convert the logo and use the same effect but the particles come to form into another logo.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, but sort of... Particle Illusion can't reform a logo once it's been blown away, but you can play it in reverse. John does this trick in another one of his Particle Illusion videos, where he renders out both and then combines them together with a speed change.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před rokem +1

      Absolutely. It just needs to have an alpha channel of some sort. So whether you key it off a greenscreen or make a mask, it should work. Remember, if you are working in After Effects, pre-compose your layer before adding Particle Illusion so it recognizes the alpha.
