    Thanks so much for making this free, such an amazing tool, I used the import button to put flame fractals,and mandelbubs in it. Awesome!
    awesome!

      That's a great idea. I may have to steal that for my future emitters!

      Please elaborate. I too am a fractalnaut. I'm not quite understanding what you're doing / how you're using the imported flames and mandelbulbs. Do you have any examples?

    It would have been nice to have more information about how deflectors work in 3D as it's simply mentioned that they exist at the very end of the video. The online documentation has this to say: "Deflectors are currently 2D (projected into 3D), so in a 3D project they work a bit unpredictably - especially when the camera is animated." I purchased the plugin yesterday for a job I'm working on and was hoping to find more information to help me understand how to use this in real-world VFX applications. I'd be much obliged if someone could point me towards specific info.

      Hi Laddie! Thanks for your comment. We asked Alan Lorence (the father of PI) for more information, and he recorded a video for you explaining deflectors in more depth. You can read his reply post on the PI forums here: forum.borisfx.com/t/deflectors-in-3d/13839

    It would have been helpful to have an explanation/examples of how deflectors behave in 3D instead of just mentioning that they exist.

    I know it's free software, but I would love to have a "camera aperture size" + "focal length" combination for the camera, instead of a "zoom" number (which IMHO makes no sense). Current implementation prevents Particle Illusion from matching camera with other 3D applications.

    • @BorisFXco

      These are good points, and definitely something we are looking at for future development.

      @@BorisFXco Thank you for taking this into consideration.

    It would REALLY be nice if you guys used standard camera terms: Tilt (up/down), pan (left/right), and roll (around the center). Also, what the software is calling a "pan" is actually a truck movement. With tilt, pan, and roll the camera stays stationary and just rotates. With trucks, dollys, and booms, the whole camera moves.
    It's very confusing when people decide to use their own terms for things when there's long-established standard terms to use.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před 2 lety

      I appreciate the comment. The terms used here match the nomenclature used across other Boris software established over the past few decades. You're absolutely right that it isn't a nodal pan movement.

    Can this feature be used in combination with davinci resolve fusion in some way instead of the build in system?

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před 2 lety

      Yes, if you have the OFX plugin, you can use 3D emitters and the built-in Particle Illusion 3D cameras.

      Awesome man, is there an Instagram I can hashtag my vid too? Also when I try to import new particle shapes it doesn't seem to show up in the database where does it go? What format are the particle shapes in? Are you guys thinking of adding USD, or fbx 3d model rendering in later releases? It would be so coil to make these things 3d models you can path trace. I'm using Nvidia Omniverse and there looking for new extension add ons.thanks.

      @@scotthaney4995 The shapes are not separate files -- they're embedded in the library files. If you change the shape image for a particle in your project, it does not change anything in the library -- the original library emitter stays unchanged.
      If you use the "import shape" option in the shape editor window and you want to add a shape to an emitter library instead of just adding it to the selected emitter in your project, you first need to select an unlocked library to view its shapes -- for instance the "custom" library. Then the "import shape to..." menu will let you select the "Emitter Library" option.

    wait what? my particles arent true 3d. they're completely flat, and there's no depth option. Is it cause I'm using the free version?

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před 2 lety

      The emitters emit in 3D. The particles themselves are 2D sprites.

      @@BorisFXco I've downloaded the particle emitters if I haven't done it wrong though. Any tutorials on that? Also it will be pretty hard to blindly animate when you can't put it with the video you will use.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před 2 lety

      If you have downloaded and installed the emitters, you will see hundreds of new emitters in your library. The standalone version doesn't support background images. The premium plugin can be applied to clips and has lots of other benefits, like built-in motion tracking. See more info here : borisfx.com/products/particle-illusion/#comparison
