Master Kong Nay is the old gentleman in the music video.That man is a legend. Kong Nay was born March 15, 1944 in Kampot, Cambodia. He is Cambodia’s most recognizable traditional musician. Kong Nay was blinded by smallpox at age four. He began his studies playing the Chapei Dong Weng at the age of thirteen. Chapei Dong Veng is Cambodia’s three stringed guitar and also music style where songs are improvised while playing the Chapei. He plays Chapey Dong Veng and sings (poems) without pre-writing.

Wasap bro! Appreciate the love on my people. His name is pronounced as Vahhn-Da. So Master Kong Nay is one of the few masters of that guitar instrument pre Khmer (Cambodian) Rouge Genocide. During 1975 to 1979, the country of Cambodia was seized and captured by a militia group. They knew to kill all the educated and the artists in the group. As a result, a lot of our historian and artist had died off. He is also a master in Ah Yai which is a poetry freestyle artform that have traditional men and women speak on issues in a rhyming fashion and goes back and forth betwern each other like a bantering style. The instrument is call jahpai, Cambodian ancient rappers play this instrument centuries before modern raps existed. Master Kong Nay is popular in Cambodia and he is one of the few survivors from the Khmer Rouge time.

Master Kong Nay 76 year old and was born blind. He rap ( free flow) and play his own instrument ( chapei). My father used to play his songs all day when i was young.
