    Master Kong Nay is revered in Cambodia. Some even refer to him as the Cambodian Ray Charles because Master Kong Nay is also a blind musician. A legend to the Khmer people. He was one of the very few musicians who survived the genocide in Cambodia back in the late 70’s. Most of them were executed. Vannda is trying to help preserve traditional Cambodian music and culture by incorporating traditional Cambodian instruments and sounds into his music for our youths. I learned from many Cambodian elders that not only did they try to extinct the musicians but the music as well by destroying the music records as they did with history books and such in attempts to erase Cambodian history to start a new one under the Khmer Rouge regime. Although they were able to save some of the music they suffered greater loss unfortunately. Everyone in the country were enslaved and lived below poverty line. It was a sad dark time in history for the Cambodian people. The title of this song speaks directly to the Cambodian people that it’s time to rise back up. Thank you for your reaction sir.

    You're so right about HIP HOP. The example you took from WU-TANG. WU-TANG was originated from China. It was a organization or a gang way back during the Chinese dynasty. I watched lot of chinese movies and heard WU-TANG GANG.

    To be honest with you when I was growing up as a little kid in Cambodia, I knew nothing of rap never even seen America back then and remember sitting around with a whole bunch of kids like myself watching someone like Master Kong Nay rapping. It's also a little bit of our culture and plus now these days we're even more influence by rap in America because a lot of us Cambodian are here in America. And believe it that we love rap even though though when I Heard it the first time. Wow thanx for that great reaction sir. Much appreciated 👍

      @@MONQTV the Khmer culture has our own "version" of rap from long ago, called Ayai. Like many other cultures, it's based on rhymes/poetry but singing instead of reading. That's why I believe Khmer people have it easier and more accepting than other countries regarding rapping.

    • @MONQTV
      @MONQTV  Před rokem +1

      You know I've had that discussion with some HIP-HOP heads here even my wife shit how every culture has it's own version of HIP-HOP before that weird was coined. So it would make sense that Cambodia would not be left out of that culture. Everything is connected as we are humankind and nothing is new under the sun. I would love to explore that culture more

    Thank you for the reaction. If you like Khmer beats mixed with modern hip-hop, I would recommend:
    VANNDA - QUEEN BEE - នារីជឿនលឿន
    POLARIX - ចាប៉ី (Japey) They're in the same label as Vannda
    TBP - ' វីរនារី ' Top Of The Lady
    WARRIORS | BALY FT .TOM
    VANNDA - SOLO AGAIN (jazz mixed with modern hiphop)
    Vannda Mama is a must if you listen to his music.
    Hopefully you could sample some Khmer music into your music.
