    One other setting to change is to set the auto power off temperature to "High" in the settings under Setup 9 "Power Setting Option". This raises the temperature limit at which the camera will automatically stop recording video. It's set to "Standard" by default, which limits record time, especially shooting outside. Changing to "High" will maximize your 4K runtime. (It won't run indefinitely, but it will run much longer.)

      I’m so surprised how much this setting is not talked about. I although had a very strange experience where mine overheated pretty fresh out the box. Barely an hr in and I was just simply playing around with the settings. Placed it down to review a video like this I was watching and when I went back to it, I noticed it was off. After turning it back on it turned off a min later due to overheating. To me that didn’t seem normal so I’m getting a new one from Amazon to be safe. But this setting is not much talked about!

    It's also worth noting that the "lowest quality" option for video recording, as it's referred to here -- HEVC 4K -- is a High Efficiency Video Codec file. It is essentially the video equivalent of the HEIC photo setting mentioned earlier in the video and can bring the same playback issues on non-optimized computers/systems that you can have when trying to view HEIC photos. It also requires the most work by a computer, if it can read the file, to "unpack" the mp4 file while you're editing your media, which can make your editing software and/or computer run slowly. I think Jerad's assessment is spot on: XAVC S 4K is a happy medium between the ultimate in file quality (and editing flexibility) and not having files that are outrageously huge.
    The bottom line in our work with both the A7iv and the FX3 has been that everything is usually on XAVC S, and sometimes on S-I depending on the situation. It's less about perceived visual quality and more about the intended use of the footage, since all three record options produce good visuals. Plenty of instructive content out there on when to shoot LongGOP vs All-Intra, if you're working in professional settings where you think that S-I might be useful.

    It would be great to have the option of recording images to slot 1 and slot 2 alternating. This way, you have fast write speed and in case one card dies, it's somewhat likely you have a similar photo on the other card still.

    7:42 - since newest versions of lightroom support raw file formats from a7 iv aswell, it automatically imports only raw files directly from the card.. idk why or when would you choose each file secifically, skipping the jpg in the card...also if you need to do that, you can just type in search 'jpg' or 'arw' and it will only find you specific format that you just Ctrl+A select and import đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž 🙂

  • @easterlingderek34
    @easterlingderek34 Pƙed 2 lety

    You was talking about not having to click every other file when separating raw vs jpeg. But you are giving up a back up of your photos doing that. When you could just use list view, then use file type filters which will cause windows to show only the .arw files. Usually I believe it gets reset back to the normal way after you close the window so it won’t cause issues with not finding files later on as well. That way you can do a shift click on all .arw files.

      Unfortunately, this is not a feature on Sony mirrorless cameras even after the new menu system update. When I first shot with the Nikon Z6, the rotation of the menu following the rotation of the camera was a game changer. This is something Sony should have done a long time ago.

This for me is huge. I let the camera settle with the timer and then I take 3 bracketed continuous photos. Since I need to re align these photos I cant have movement when i release the shutter on the first photo.
