I just bought a Sony A7iv and this is the most instructional video I came across so far! I’ve been feeling overwhelmed with all the previous videos I watched on YT but this was precise and straight to the point 😃
I have a video specifically for the A7 IV also here: czcams.com/video/Vt3g42Y56jI/video.html This video is for the A7R IV, which although similar, is not the same... I appreciate the kind words and I'm really glad this video has helped you out ;)
My sentiments too. He doesn’t overwhelm you with technical jargon.
Wow I i’ve been a photographer for 40 years this is one of the best triangles exposures I have ever witnessed love your examples also keep the great work up I am a true fan thank you

Excellent tutorial, really helped. Was able to easily pause, follow your examples, experiment and understand before continuing. Also I was able to properly listen and follow what you were saying - I find some peoples tutorials sound like they've a bus to catch and they're trying to cram everything in before it arrives 🚏🚌💨😄
Great to hear and thanks for the very kind words :)
I just got done watching this video for the first time and I have to agree with your comment . salute
I am a semi pro but new to the Sony system. I went from canon and my last system is the 5dsr which is now my backup so I look at everything for this system. Good job. Thanks.
Thank you David ;) I also have a Canon 5D system from back in the day when I was doing professional photography like portraits and weddings. The Sony's work way different for sure!

Thank you for making this video. ding ding ding
Thank you Jay for such a great video and help me a lot as beginner point of view. If possible, can you help to do a video on lenses for AR7IV? can't we zoom in with FE 1.8/85 lenses?
this is one of the best tutorial I've come across so far. I just bought this camera and also bought sony 355 f.14 and very happy with that. These concept for sure going to help me improve. Could you also recommend a good tripod ? and the question is what is the setting for taking picture of multiple peeople or a family of four in a outdoor place like time square or a birthday party event ? thanks
Hi Jason, I just bought the exact same setup, I'm a fine artist, and I bought the Sony A7R 4 primarily to take photos of my paintings at hi res, so as to be able to offer prints. I can see going manual is the way( i've only used auto up till now). Ive also got a Zeiss 55mm 1.8 lens, as well as the Sony 24-105 F4. I'm using continuous lighting at 5500K, with two lights on either side at an angle of 45 degrees. I can dim the lights right down from 100% to 0%. I've been using the Zeiss on auto with the painting Im trying to capture at the moment measuring 750mm H x 1200mm W. I have the camera set at 1800mm from the painting where it fills the monitor screen, but its still not quite sharp at the outer extremities. After this demo I'm thinking of using the manual setting with a slow shutter speed (I've got the wired remote, and camera on a Benro 3-way geared head). Would I then have the f stop at 4-5.6, and the ISO at 100 to get the best image of the painting, in low continuous lighting? Thanks.... Im learning, but Iv'e found both you and Dan Fox have great tutorials.
Hello there, I would try stoping down the lens to f/8 and moving back from the art piece a bit. Then zoom in on the art to eliminate any perspective distortion. f/8 should get you corner to corner sharpness if you are lined up perfect. I would also set the self timer on the camera and allow the shutter to be whatever it needs to be @ ISO 100
Hi Jay awesome video thank you so much. I’m officially subscribed thanks for your knowledge. Quick question, I mainly shoot a video during a sunny day or sometimes cloudy but mainly during the day, what priority setting do you recommend? Should I be in manual mode or a particular priority? I am mainly doing a Aviation video and my focus is the plane as it approaches for landing or takes off. I do not care to have anything else and focus. Any advice on the best mode, aperture, FPS, ISO settings, shutter speed? I am currently shooting at 24 FPS 1/50 shutter Manuel mode auto iso! Thanks for your help
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
The best tutorial ever I have learned so far!👍👍👍👍
Wow, thanks!
@@Jason_Hermann I have learned quite a lot on your a7r4 tutorial and would expect if you could do another tutorial on A7S3, as some other CZcamsrs either all inclusive and covers every item or too quick in explanation the main function menu.
Just down here by the river in the dark learning things lol
I’m by a beach but doing the same thing 😂
I just bought that lens, it’s my standard lens that lives on my camera full time. Thanks for the education
U have saved my life
Hi Jason, your tutorial was like 2 years ago but it is just what I need right now. I have watched it carefully a few times and have benefited a lot. There is one thing I hope you could give me more tips about Sony A7R4 Iso Auto Min ss setting up. I am lost here, it can set 1/125'' or 4s or even 15 to 30ss. In my situation of shooting day-to-night timelapse, what speed should I set?
Many thanks.
Randy
Good job
Thanks
Best Video
Usefull video
Glad you think so!
Top 5 on the internet
Brilliant mate ..
Time well spent even if I own a 6600. Thank you Jay!
Thank you for the comments and I'm glad the video helped you out ;)
Hello, thanks for great video!
I just got this camera. Please can you advise me how to set shutter when in Auto? I have manual fisheye lense. Cheers!
Amazing explanation. Thank you for taking the time to do it. I found your video because I was gathering information about the A7RIV evaluating a possible purchase but I see in the description that you use A7C which I didn't have considered... Could you tell me why you choose that body? I was undecided between the A7RIII and IV, but will be good to have some insight for another option. Thanks!
I also have the A7IV now which is my go to camera...The A7C I am using only for my studio camera these days... The A7C is a very small camera body so not the best ergonomics and the electronic viewfinder is low quality, only on e memory card slot as well, and cheaper! The A7R series cameras have a super high resolution sensor, where the A7C has a 24MP sensor... Also the camera body on the A7R series is larger and more robust with lots of buttons everywhere... I would highly recommend checking out the A74 and here is the perfect video for you: czcams.com/video/M7OIRjcePZE/video.html
great thank you
Welcome 😊
Thank you
You're welcome!
Simple but clear.
Glad you think so!
