Thank you for your knowledgeable advice. I'm having difficulty customizing a few buttons, and I don't follow the instruction manual. I use a7IV and 200-600 Sony lens for wildlife only. The bird-eye focus is set from the menus because birds are 70% of my subjects. But I always need a quick change to animal-eye when in national parks etc. Ideally I would like a button on the lens for an instant switch, or the C1 button would be fine. A step-by-step guide would be super appreciated. Thanks for your informative videos, best regards Alan (South Africa).

@@Gemini_Connect just got it and going through the menus. This video is helpful. 2 questions - How do I setup my EVF to allow horizontal info display when holding my camera vertically. My Canon R6 does it automatically. Second I set my separate video and photo modes and when I switch the focus area in video it follows when I switch back to photo. I double checked and the focus mode has the checkmark in Different Set For Still/Mv settings. I'm shooting in M.
looks like you can only set focus mode and not focus area. Poop ... my R6 does this automatically. Sets the focus points and area separate between Photo and Video. hhmmmm

Thank you I followed along but I'm not yet advanced enough to play with all the setting lol, quick tip if you want to free up another button on the back (I just recently found this hack) you may already know it but if you press and hole menu and trash can you get format so you could have another button on the back instead :) thanks from NZ.

I've learned heaps and subscribed. Scott Bourne recommends to read one page of the manual each dat, no your camera. I'm a pensioner who is active like MTBiking, Tramping and really enjoy photography. Along with that I fly a drone and I find that more nervous that going down a steep bank on the MTBike or crossing a swollen river. Ho I still build. Now for part two

Lovely job …. Thanks so much. Great clear and concise content. Hey, have you had any luck with RAW files on the iPad Pro? I was using infinity photos up until I’ve updated my iOS software. Now it doesn’t work. I just purchased Light room on iOS. I can now decode my photos. Unfortunately I’m only getting blank spaces on the native app. The JPEG’s show up but not the raw. It worked perfectly on my a7iii. Apple is so bloody annoying.

It's up to you, but personally, I don't use Picture Profiles while shooting photos. I just shoot in RAW and add filters in post production.
Picture profiles are only applied to jpgs. If you shoot both raw and jpgs, the profiles will only be seen on the jpgs.
Hey ! Awesome content. I just received my Sony A7IV. But I can only choose frame rates for movies between 25,50 FPS. I do not have the option of 24 FPS. Do you know what I am doing wrong?
I think it's because you have PAL video format active, which is common when shooting overseas. Here in the USA, we don't use it.
Idk why the dial that have the lock doesn’t work, does it comes off or anything like that, I never use it cause I have my camera by default but if I try to use it just doesn’t do anything? Any help idk if there is any extra lock or something like that
Can you record 4k/24fps on Auto mode?
I can’t fine my af illuminator it only give me focus mode/transition speed/af shift sensitivity /af assist
thank you for this video. i’m having trouble with the setting at 7:00. it seems to be greyed out and won’t let me change it
If you hit the right toggle button when on the grayed out section, it should tell you why it's not available. For me, this happened when I was on memory recall mode.
Thanks for that! Did you figure it out how to have Peaking fuction turned on in video but only for MF, and when jumping to AF having it automatically off? I can only turn Peaking off in AF by disabling it completely.

Can you do it some long exposure test to see if this camera get colour banding?I In my case when I'm shooting night photography ,in long exposure I have colour banding in my photography, this more visible in the sky.
I've done long exposures with this camera and haven't seen banding.
@@Gemini_Connect in my case if I use iso 100 Aperture F8 I have colours banding in the sky , if I put iso high like 500 colour banding gone ,but the sky locks like day light which is not that good, my purpose it's to have dark sky ,so in my case doesn't work .

Great tips. I'm planning to upgrade my Nikon D300 to some more modern and faster camera with video options. Would you prefer the A7IV for shooting airshows and fast jets with often difficult light conditions? A9 and A1 are too expensive in my case. Greetings from Belgium.
Yes, the A7IV would be perfect -- a nice upgrade from the Nikon.
@@Gemini_Connect Thanks very much. My Nikon D300 was a great camera body back in time, but it's almost 15 years old now, so things evolved in that period. The Sony is also quite a bit lighter what makes it more comfortable to work with whole day. But it's especially the speed of the autofocus what attracts me as well as the image quality.
In the beginning I was considering the A9ii and was following an A9 group on Facebook, but I think it's to expensive and not the best camera for my style of photography. Then I came to the A7IV, but the resolution will give such heavy files and I heard the video isn't that good. And at last I came to the A7IV, I thought it would work great for my needs...
Today decided to purchase the A7IV. As well as two lenses. Think I made a great buy and huge step forward comparing to my oldish DSLR.

I personally think the A7IV is better and more suited to my needs when I'm shooting paid photo and video work. It's not the most beginner-friendly camera though. Do if on a budget and wanting a simpler camera to get started with, the ZV-E10 is better.
Sorry another question. On my R6 I can have video delay start of 2 seconds with the front LED flashing when recoding starts, Is there any way to have a delay start with the Sony. It seems the drive mode has the delay start but doesn't work in video mode only in photo mode. There are tons of stuff in the Sony I don't have in my Canon but I'm used to some basic stuff which is missing in the Sony. I'm also struggling with the auto white balance. There is a lot of green tinge even when I manually set the Kelvin. I metered the lights and the room and manually set the Kelvin on both cameras. The Canon nails the colors and the Sony does not. Also so surprised that Sony does NOT allow 30FPS in HEVC. Silly you can only do 24 or 60 but 30 is missing. I prefer HEVC because of the compression to save space but can't shoot 30FPS. So far I sound negative and it will take time to get used to the Sony but my initial 24 hrs is not going well .... :) thanks for listening. Steve from Toronto
I'm not sure about setting a video delay. Haven't heard of that feature. The color on the Sony definitely takes some getting used to, especially if coming from Canon. I miss Canon colors A LOT, but they were just too late were their entry into mirrorless cameras. I feel Sony has better lens options since third party brands (Sigma, Tamron) also cater to the E-Mount.
if you upload the video of designate keys and dials in detail like custom setting vidoe, it help beginner like us to make those keys and Dial helpful.

When adjusting the settings in picture mode to raw, then switching to movie mode and going back to picture mode it automatically changes to jpeg all the time, any idea why it won't save the settings? Thanks for the video btw🙌
Hmm… I’m not sure. As long as your photo type is set to RAW or RAW + JPG in your settings, you should get RAW too.

When you format the SD cards in camera, you will lose any CAMSET files you might be using. Then you must reload the backup files back onto the card from your computer. I prefer to delete the DCIM folder from the card after I download and backup the files to two different drives. That way, the CAMSET file/files stay on the card and can be loaded or changed if necessary.
Was good but I really wish you told us HOW to SET the custom settings, verses just mentioning your personal favorites.
