Why do these countries dislike each other?

  • ▶ In this video I explore a few international relationships marked by tension and dislike between various countries. I start with Venezuela's claim on Guyana's territory - Esequibo - following with the strained relations between Poland and Belarus due to their opposing sides of an external conflict. Saudi Arabia and Iran, the United States's rivalry with Russia, and China, and what each of those involve. Next I delve into the lingering grievances between Chile, Bolivia, and Peru since the War of the Pacific which caused Bolivia's landlocked status, as well as the tensions between Morocco and Algeria. Finishing with the discord between Myanmar and Bangladesh, and the historical animosity between Turkey and Armenia.

Poland and Belarus: you omitted that in Belarus there is a regionally huge Polish minority, which was usually opressed by the authorities of "the last dictatoriship in Europe". Hence Poland supported democratic oposition in Belarus.

@@General.Knowledge After WW2 border changes not all people migrated: many Poles from Grodno (quite big city just east of the border) in Belarus and Vilnus in Lithuania because stayed and formed locally even a majority. In Belarus there were always clashes with Belarusian regime since Poles wanted their national organisations, cultural and educational institutions and were mostly catholic so wanted to restored churches nationalised during Soviet era. Also small Belarussian minority lives in Poland in few counties near the border.
Today this situation is also worsened by Lukashenko's persecutions and political inprisonment of Belarussians (also Poles), Belarussian involvement in Russian invasion of Ukraine and their "hybrid attack" by sending migrants from Africa/Asia to polish border and provoking polish bordrr guards/army.

I think title of today’s video is a bit misleading. I find it difficult to comment on all countries mentioned in the video, but can put my two cents in and comment on Belarus vs Poland. It’s not true people in Poland dislike Belarussians - colleagues of mine work together with folks who left Belarus after February 24, 2022. They get on very well together, as the cultural differences between our nations are almost non-existent. However, it’s true we do not like Lukashenko’s regime, as we consider him as puppet of muscovy.

As a Pole who was born and lived near the Belarus border for years I deeply disagree with the claim that our nations dislike each other. Both Poland and Belarus are victims of Soviet imperialism. We really respect especially those who tried to oppose their Lukashenka regime. We understand Belarussians because we share similar pasts, problems with Russia, communism, and so on. Constructive criticism here. Please do not add background music to your videos. It is distracting and makes it harder to understand what you are saying. Remember we already have background noise around us when we are watching so adding more is not favorable.

Perhaps, if not for the events of 2020, Poland and Belarus would have had much better relations, since Poland openly supported people who wanted to arrange the nineties in Belarus (they wanted to arrange privatization in the same way as it was in Ukraine, regionally and distribute shares entirely, while Belarus often retained a controlling stake shares of enterprises).

Wat is this thumbnail? I'm from Poland and I feel Belorusians are our brothers. I'm slightly offended by marking us as rivals. We have quite some migrants from Belarus and they are cool people. There's less cultural difference than with Ukrainians... Perhaps Belarus is closest culturally country to us.
You should have made us rivalizing with Russians instead. We are historical rivals since forever.

@Chase-AUSYeah, but if he picked russia that would work much better... I think it was mistake, also 50% of comments that I see say the same.
This grudge is completely out of scale compared to other countries in this video. We already have bigger tensions with Ukrainians. Not that I support these anti-Ukrainian narratives, I just feel that by observing people around me.

You forgot Argentina, that its society also deeply hates Chile for the Chileans' support for the British in the Falklands War (April 2, 1982) in response to the invasion that a resentful Argentina wanted to make on the Chileans ( December 22, 1978) after an international arbitration ruling ruled in favor of Chile regarding the dispute over the Beagle Channel and the adjacent territories (May 2, 1977 - Beagle Conflict)
