Rishton to Riley Green

  • A cruise through Blackburn, starting in Rishton and on to Riley Green, west of Blackburn including a few relics of our industrial past suich as Imperial Mill and Daisyfield Mill.
    Descending the Blackburn Flight and passing an abandoned boat, a jet ski and telephone box covered in wall paper!

    A really nice stretch next to the edge of Chorley. I hope you stopped and had a look around Withnell Fold. It's a village built for the paper mill owners and workers. The settling pools on the north side of the canal are also worth a short walk and it's now a small nature reserve. The water aqueduct from the Lake District to Manchester also passes through the village and there is an impressive stone aqueduct bridge 500m after the village on the offside of the canal.

      Hi Nick,
      Yes it was a scenic part of the canal ( that’ll be the next vlog!)
      I didn’t know about that village. We cruised from Riley Green down through Johnson Hill locks the next day.
      But I will definitely take a look when we are back that way
