- This is a very peculiar shrub rose and is very closely related to the species Roses introduced by David Austin in 2013 the shrub produces large crimson deep pink blooms on nothing stands around 4 1/2 feet tall
When you say that most roses are floppy most people assume that’s down to the stems Not being able to support the weight of the flowers in this case that simply not the case the growth is Woody and upright. Is the blooms themselves which face the floor my suggestion with this rose is the plant it in a pot can it up high where you can look up at is incredible flowers and enjoy it the wonderful fragrance
Highly recommend this rose. In Baku, Azerbaijan it even blooms at 40°C when other roses stop blooming
I have this rose and I absolutely love it, it has brought me joy every summer since I have had it.
Hi Ben
I bought this one last year and I agree with all your comments. Mine is in a pot but next year to avoid the drooping flowers I'm thinking of adding one of those small obelisks so that I can tie in the flowers upright etc
Lovely flower, colour & scent.
Thanks for your informative and explicit videos.
I wish you and your beloved people a happy and healthy New Year.
Incredibly useful video by Ben Anderson. Helped me decide to buy it.
Happy to help
He’s very handsome 🍃🌹🍃
Thank you for the information
Your most welcome
It is very very pretty. All blooms droop alright. But i have mine in a tall and wide pot and it works .I agree with you to transfer it in a pot.
Mine grows 7 foot tall so the flowers dangle at eye level. So strange how the height varies between different growing conditions. I have clay soil, maybe it likes it? It flowers really heavily in June and July, then goes a bit quiet, and now in September it is covered in buds and flowers again. Looks super healthy and the colour is fantastic. Set off with Grace in the foreground both look amazing together.
I am so useless at talking about or identifying a specific Rose fragrance. This has to be an art in itself! An art you seem to have off pat!;)
I’m really glad that you think so 💚
I just received mine in the mail today (bare root). Good idea to plant in a pot, or since you mention the drooping, I might just plant this behind my retaining wall where it will be planted around 3-4 feet up. I'm in Charlotte, NC, zone 7b.
That sounds like a perfect spot
It's BOUQUET not Becket! These do go wonderfully with my candelight suppers, mind you.
I got this rose last year. There were only three blooms on it but this year there are about 30 buds! Most of them waiting to open. The one that is opened so far is drooping right down. It has been quite windy here though in the past few days. I was hoping the stems would be stronger this summer. The flowers are indeed beautiful but their drooping nature frustrates me. I have him in a half barrel on the patio. My azalea and Rhododendron, also in pots, haven’t disappointed except for last summer when I made the mistake of watering the Rhododendron over the top of the flowers during a few very hot days. The result was that the hot sun converted the moisture on the blooms into fungus and the flowers all turned into brown mush 🤮. This summer I carefully poured some water onto the root ball. They don’t need a whole lot of watering though. At least it taught me something😁.
I’m sorry to say but this issue with this particular rows will never really rectify itself the stems will become woody and quite upright but the blooms will still hang you have it in the correct situation however in a pot up off the floor that will give you the best vantage point to enjoy its blooms it will be floppy and they will hang
The droopiness reminds me of fuchsias. 😆
I can see that
