Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 Concept w/ Gravel Setup: Starts, Burnouts, Turbo Anti-Lag & Sound!

Toyota's Rally2-class contender was unveiled as a concept at the end of 2022 during the WRC Rally Japan. Built under the Rally2 (former R5) rules, it shows some interesting aerodynamic parts added to the excellent starting point which is the road-going GR Yaris, developed with rallies in mind. But quite for sure the final model will have something different from this concept.
Under the hood the Yaris Rally2 retains the 1.6-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine of the road-going GR Yaris but it will surely have some tweaks and improvements. The car should be ready by the end of this year and then it will be offered by Toyota Gazoo Racing as an eligible customer car for many national regional championships around the world.

I hadn't really noticed it before 😂 I believe they lost it somewhere in the rally stage on Friday afternoon, since the clips when both are fitted on the car are from Thursday and Friday morning

Good thing to see the very early Rally2 prototype is getting some action.
As far as i know there are three GR Yaris Rally2 prototypes right now..
- This early prototype in black
- The "JP4" rallying in Japanese Rally Championship
- The test mule in Finland (which now has different rear wing configuration and centered exhaust for blown diffuser)

It actually has the same or slightly longer wheelbase than some Porsches, but because there's barely any front or rear overhang it gives off the illusion that its wheelbase is really short. It all comes to packaging.

Well that's because that 1.6L 3cyl turbo you find inside the road going variant of the GR Yaris (and the GR Corolla as well) was specifically designed with Rally2 in mind.
The same engine can also be found inside its GR Yaris AP4 cousin (Rally2 equivalent) for a few years as well competing in the Australian & Indonesian Rally Championship.

Iv owned straight 6s r34 skyline, and then nissan partol y62 and I did a skyline engine swap because it it's same engine mounts and gearbox. Like the smooth sound of a straight 6. But now I have the gr yaris and it's growing on me, mine pretty much stock though, just intake and duel port bov all the the chu chu sounds, but stock exhaust, it's warn in now and has a deep tone, makes my house vibrate my wife says. I wants a more free flow exhaust but not sure.

its a gravel setup rally car. Its supposed to have more travel compared to a regular car. and its definitely flying. The camera doesn't do it justice.
