    I've always felt most natural dunking off one foot and looking back at videos of me dunking, I do pretty much everything that this video explains off just instinct.

      💯... There is some subtle variation with each jumper but the techniques I laid out are pretty universal. It's probably worth trying them out!

    Tips a tricks to help you dunk:
    1.Use your heels on your last final jumps and then jump
    2.the pin ultimate step should be diagonal and the last step should be pointed forward
    3.your torso should be slightly low and at take off should be nearly vertical
    4.when jumping have your left arm 90 degrees and swing your arm highly parallel to the floor
    5.have your leg when jumping 180 degrees
    6.have a powerful knee drive that should reach parallel to the floor or just shy of it
    7.your take off should be not to far or to close to the basket

      Faster relative to the 2 foot jump. Definitely not top speed but I'd say 70-80% top speed for the 1 foot approach dunk. For the 2 foot dunk, significantly slower speed (tho still aggressive final 3 steps)

    • @flightlabhoops8604
      @flightlabhoops8604  Před 4 lety +1

      I've actually never came across someone with this issue in jumping. I do see it occasionally in sprinter's on their first step out of the blocks. When does this occur in your approach? Final step? Which foot?

      @@flightlabhoops8604 I jump off my left foot and as I bring my right knee drive up my foot touches the ground a lot. Most people who have this problem are power jumpers, I see Zach Lavine do this a lot in dunk contests

    you ever watch Nick Briz? he's a 1 leg dunker, has the fastest ground contact time i ever seen. does that make you jump higher?

    • @flightlabhoops8604
      @flightlabhoops8604  Před 4 lety +8

      I've seen some of his dunks on my social media feed. He's got incredible bounce. You are correct he has minimal ground contact time. He is able to generate a ton of force in a very short time span. I suspect this ability is largely genetic and related to high proportion of type IIx (fast twitch) muscle fibers. You can enhance it through training with plyometrics and lighter, explosive lower body resistance training. Tho IMO it is difficult.

    • @flightlabhoops8604
      @flightlabhoops8604  Před 4 lety +3

      Yes, but it has limits. I usually coach around 7/10 speed. You are moving much faster than a 2 foot jump. The higher speed generates horizontal momentum that you can transfer to the vertical.

    • @elmooth1261
      @elmooth1261 Před 4 lety +4

      if you go too fast you end up going more horizontal than vertical. but when you have speed, there is more energy being produced to elevate you. its all about finding the balance
