    I was previously a Nordhavn fan until I took my first tour of the Fleming line of yachts. What I see that I prefer are the full size refrigerator, the high end kitchen appliances, the composite rail caps, the backup systems throughout the yacht, access to electronics behind the breaker panels, the copious use of handrails and the low freeboard in the aft section. I particularly admire the owner's stateroom in this version and as always the brightly lit engine rooms are a marvel to behold. If I were to suddenly hit the lottery I would immediately make an appointment to meet Tony and design my new home on the sea. I can't imagine a finer way to end a lifetime than on a luxury yacht enjoying the natural wonders of mother nature. Thank you Nick, for yet another fine video.

    I am now an old man with (unfulfilled) dreams of owning a 'Trawler' based motor cruiser. I remember Fleming from the fine yachting magazines of my time. I 'hustled' right over to the Fleming web page. Like many builders' pages I have visited thanks to you, Fleming lacks the true journalist's touch with its videos. There is a 'gaping' need for YOUR style of walk-around videography on their site. Fleming is locked into the static slideshow style of presentation of interiors and exteriors. Next up, they feature special cruising destinations to whet the travel appetite of adventure voyagers. I was most interested in the Fleming 78 (well, nomenclature has drifted a bit here.) What I saw with Fleming was close enough to 'spot on' with your work on a smaller ship.

      Talking of Checklists but on a far smaller scale of boat. This year I bought the vessel view mobile for my Mercury outboard engine. A bluetooth device with an App. Plugs in to the outboard service port wiring loom under the cowling. It gives via your mobile phone all the engine running hours and other stats you also get a customisable set of checklists. From remembering to have boat keys bungs fitted, spares onboard before launching. I find it a very useful piece of kit.

    Absolutely fantastic to see you do a tour of a Fleming! They have been my favourite cruising yachts for years. I absolutely love the classic looks and the use of space on them. And the almost manic attention to detail and redundancies throughout the boats are quite simply impressive.
    If I ever were to be in the position of having to choose between a Nordhavn or a Fleming, I think the Fleming would win me over every time. :)

    • @Kennethah81
      @Kennethah81 Před 5 lety +1

      @Wade Brown thank you for the comment! I fully agree with you, apples and oranges, but that was kinda the point. I primarily used the Northaven for comparison since Nick have made several yacht tours on Northavens and because I really like them as well. Disregarding speed and hull design, I prefer the Fleming for it's looks and lower profile. The interior is also somewhat less "stairy" than the Northavens, which is a bonus too.
      But of course, if hull-shape and performance is important to the decision, the comparison is more like comparing apples and bunnies than apples and oranges, two completely different products designed to meet completely different performance criteria. :)
      Unfortunately, any of these magnificent yacht are so far out of my budget that I probably couldn't afford one of the propellers. Still, we can always dream. :)

    • @Kennethah81
      @Kennethah81 Před 5 lety

      @Wade Brown no worries at all, I am enjoying my 30-year old 26-footer while I dream of the magnificent, large cruising yachts! :) And congratulations on a magnificent yacht. That 658 is an absolutely stunning boat. Personally I'd prefer a separate wheelhouse on a yacht this size, but the 658' layout does make much better use of the space. All boats, even these beauties are after all a compromise in some way or another.
      Of course, the one advantage of just dreaming rather than buying is that I don't have to worry about cost. ;)

    • @Kennethah81
      @Kennethah81 Před 5 lety

      @Wade Brown a very good point indeed! I think many people get a bit stunned by the costs of operating and maintaining a boat, no matter the size of it. Mine is so old now that renovation and replacement of expensive bits is added to the normal costs of owning and running the boat, so I spending a hell of a lot more than 20% of what I bought it for each year! lol!

    Great video as always. My wife and I were delighted to find a trawler style at the show (seriously looking at the moment) sadly no where near enough passage maker style boats at the show. I know that cameras distort sizes but the go pro really does make this look so much bigger than it is. The saloon area feels really small..the side decks are pretty generous and I think it only has an 18ft beam which makes the saloon very narrow...beautifully made but the videos really are very deceptive. We are potentially looking at a live aboard and both of us agreed the interior space was way too compromised to spend long periods on it. The pilot house was lovely though ...light with fantastic all round vision. There was another guy on the boat while we were looking who had just bought a rival brand, when the salesman asked him how much he thought the Flemming cost his wife guessed at 1.7m and he reckoned 1.4...he nearly spat his drink when the guy said 3.2m ...very hard to justify such a huge price especially considering the SH price of a Nordhavn 60s... nice boat ..way too expensive...

    FlemingYachts are one of the best! Richard Fleming designed a perfect vessel to see the World from. Many people will think the interior is rather sparten below decks but does that really matter on long voyages?
    The FlemingYacht can take you anywhere safely!
    The only yacht that I truly believe is even safer is an FPB.
    Thank you for a great video on a spectacular vessel!

    The F58 brought Fleming to a new level and the reason for that is they went to new naval architects, Norman R Wright & Sons in Brisbane, Australia who have over 100 years experience designing and building these trawler style cruising yachts.
    The F58 impressed everyone so much that Fleming have commissioned NRW&S to design and engineer the new F85.

    Brilliant tour. That is a beautiful boat. Compared with a Kadey Krogen of similar size there is so much to think about. They are both so similar and yet both so different. Some fantastic details on this boat which aren't on the Krogen...and yet the reverse is true...For me it all comes down to how much one can tailor the boat to your own desires, and the distance to re- fuelling. I don't want 18 knots when crossing an ocean, but I might need it when trying to outrun a low pressure system? I want room for a compressor in the lazarette. The Krogen can do almost 5000 nm before refuelling...what absolutely beautiful boats though....applause to all of you boat designers...

    After years of beating my brains out and being miserable on sailboats around the Northern California Coast, a powerboat, especially a Fleming looks so appealing. A no none-sense choice, and a real cruising yacht for those who really know. Highly functional, extremely thoughtful, and exquisite at the same time. Next to a comparable Hatteras , Viking, Broward, Burger etc....., this yacht is a clear cut above on so many levels, not that those others are inferior by themselves. Fleming's just standout on their own.

      @@visionist7 San Francisco Bay has 25-35 knots of wind most days from April through October. Always foggy and cold. Strong currents and Seas in and out the Golden Gate Bridge. Always wet and cold and using far too many muscles to keep the boat balanced , reefed and trimmed. Can never stand up without falling down etc. A chore just to bring a drink up from below. Fun for the first couple years but a major drag thereafter. Was Coast Guard licensed so I taught lesson on big boat and did charters for 20 years in those conditions.

    Great detailed share. Beautiful boat throughout both in design and the helm features. I did want to raise one observation. The sliding bolt latch that is used to secure the two doors on the Portuguese Bridge is surprisingly basic. You'd see a latch like that on a chicken coop versus the robust hinge and bolt system that you pointed out on the Nordhavn 68 review. That tandem looked like something you would see on a bank safe. I am surprised that Fleming chose such a basic sliding bolt to handle a very significant task. Fleming boats are superb. There is no questioning their overall build quality and feature list. I just find it odd that they didn't stay consistent with this particular hardware choice thereby matching every other choice you showed us throughout the boat. For this price point, I would expect a bolt and hinge system that was substantially more robust both visually and performance wise.

    Very nice classic live-aboard cruiser with tons of detail. I especially like the faux teak cap-rails and the galley. Lack of sun bathing pads could be a minus but not a deal breaker. The helm controls are like having a modern gps/multi-media stack installed in a 1967 Cadillac. However for me for the same price, I find sport models more appealing such as the Princess line.

    • @visionist7
      @visionist7 Před 4 lety

      I'm sure you can specify sun pads for the foredeck storage lockers. This boat has me torn. I love it and would live aboard it for months at a time (good luck keeping it clean outside though lol) but I can't help but see it as unsexy, old fashioned looking. It's a shame I can't get over its looks.
