- Road Atlanta is perhaps the most dangerous road course in the country. When you throw rain, patches of ice and $500 cars into the mix, it can be positively deadly.

Broke? I mean its kinda there deal
just boring
That's lemons for ya
its the rain
A lot of people here seem to miss the comedic irony of the fact that almost no cars in this race actually cost 500 dollars, and no more, while completely overlooking the fact that they literally have a "bribes" jar. This entire event is a tongue-in-cheek bullshitting contest. The whole point is to NOT take it seriously, and the comment section here is full of people taking it way too seriously. This generation really CAN'T understand irony.
Sure, some CZcams commentators can't see the comedy in it. You don't even know what generation these people are part off. And now an entire generation doesn't understand irony xD
Nice rant but that ruins the whole point...The entire race is based off the 500 idea.
I get it, but if im driving a lemon, i dont want to be driving against 20k cars.
Ok boomer
I'm still trying to figure out why guys bring a fully prepped Ecoboost mustang to a race for $500 dollar cars lol
I thought about this and all the things that were going on and I realized the event is more about having fun rather than being serious and winning a race. It's not as much a race as it's a gathering for people who want to race and have fun.
Don't worry about the price limit, race how you want.
Just be considerate of everyone else and be safe.

It's all recorded in the rain, outside
Man; you guys waaaay too serious in these comments. look; the cars have mandatory safety gear that falls outside the budgetary limits; brakes, tires, fia-approved seat, full roll cage, kill switch, stock fuel system in good working order OR an FIA-approved fuel cel last i remember the limit was 24gallons...or was it 22? anyway above all else they make sure your pile of crap you duct-taped together 5minutes before tech isn't going to turn into a rolling death trap.
you want to clear BS inspection? don't bring your cheaty-ass miata or e30 skunkwerks special. you bring a clapped-out malaise-era GM car or an old rat's nest dodge daytona.
the cars that don't belong anywhere near a track? that's what they like to see racing most. a close second would be some generic sedan decorated like a parade float. BTW, part of BS; you can technically buy a car for more than $500 if you have to, as long as you can quantify selling enough parts off it to make the budget limit(or at least convince the judges you did)
stuff like cool gauges don't particularly affect the perceived value, but Shiny red Eibachs and a sprint cup motor will!
In Australian Lemons we're allowed $999 Australian, which is about $700 US. Our team has a $600 car with a $100 motor and a $100 gearbox swapped into it.
The actual cost of racing that $800 pile is why I'm broke.
FIA seat not required...purpose built one-piece racing seat.
thats whatbit used to.be go to salvage yard or auction pic up a dying car monkey it free parts friends or selling of parts of said car and attending but if its changed this much...wouldnt be worth attending for fun....now its a race for race teams..not the avearage guy or woman
Really makes you put a lot of faith in their inspectors when they don't know the difference between a V8 and an inline 4. lol.
He wasn't an inspector. He was a judge.
@@beezball He wasn't a judge...A BS judge. So even lower. Lol
Hi might have drank those wonky beers? :D

Guess the b.s. inspector didn't notice the eg coupe with the b series swap
Kinda missing the point arent ya?
i mean they let a completely race prepped foxbody that probably cost 30k to build a b swapped eg isnt the most cheater car out there
The first veteran they interviewed had to deal with a ton of shit that day he was talking about. It was a total shitshow and while I'm not sure what his role was, hes lucky not to come back with a flag draped over him.
If you and your race team read this, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
15:55 Anton Chigurh really chilled out!
Hope to do this next year with my beater haha, I'm lucky enough to be around a 45min drive from a track that runs LeMons annually!

“It’s affordable for anyone” Yet I can’t even afford to do this. WTF
Literally any safe car can race
@@Larcona_ Ignore him. It's cool to pretend to be poor in 2020.
@@Larcona_ true....but it cost $1500 to enter
That is true, but it is WAY more affordable than other "entry" racing series. It would be nice if the organizers were a little more open about the cost of all the safety equipment. Sure the car is $500 but after you get the car up to the tech requirements and purchase all the driver gear you're invested thousands of dollars.
Racing is affordable to anyone. Just go to your local karting track
This is my favorite race to watch on CZcams.
Jonny, are you sitting on Citroen DS-21 seats at 1:23? Ultimate comfort, but a sin against the car gods to be used such! (I can't believe I recognize those if that's what they are)
8:11 That engine is going to lock up tight in a long right hand sweeper. I guarantee it.

So, what were the lap times of the $100,000 tow trucks?
They need to tighten up the rules. What place did the pink Volvo come in?
Why did 10 minutes of a great video have to be bootlicking?

How to win: build a car for 2k (nothing too good because you have to be a gentleman about it) sell it to a buddy for 500, buy it back for 500
The 500$ rule isn’t based too much on actual cost, but how much you think the judges think you spent
@@omega1575 oh, makes sense
This was the swan song last race for our 1987 Alfa Romeo Milano “Angelina” at 19:11 you can hear a Busso V6 wound up.
4:20 please never top pushing this narrative. So what happened to the contest rule where if there was any heartburn about what a car cost they had to sign over the title at the end for $500?
The judges only ever used that rule twice. Once because the team BEGGED them to take the car, the other because the team tried extra hard to cheat (to the point of putting artificially rusted engine parts over the racing bits).
There's an amateur rally in Finland that operates this rule. Totally levels the playing field and let's driver's try different cars to gain skill.
@@jaymorrison2419 back in...2012? i wanna say, Jay claimed a Motor from a Team that was basically full of Pratt & Miller guys they had an old 80's camaro with a 600hp "built" engine. it was funny watching them reel when the then-BS Judges Murilee and his cousin told'em to yank the valve covers for a gander.
@@chrisdroste3296 And then they sucked...
That rule is still applied in cases of egregious violations of the rules (or if the team asks for it to happen), but generally speaking the narrative is absolutely correct; no one cares because it's about having fun rather than a serious race event.
I've raced Lemons multiple times as well as ChampCar, and I think ChampCar is a better option.
ChampCar does not pretend to have cheap cars like Lemons, but believe me there are Lemons teams spending LOTS of money to make their cars fast, and they are trying to win. Judges are not giving these guy penalty laps that are regulars at their events, they will hammer the first-time lemons racers.
I would say this, Lemons is expensive! if you want to simply go "racing" on a road course, then open track events are they way to do it,
they let you run regular street cars so no expensive rollcages, etc. And if you have a couple buddies come out and bring their cars too, it is a good fun time.
Defog with newsprint or plug chewing tobacco. Both have a good reputation, though I have only used newsprint myself.
Man I want to do this !!
Isn't Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca? I can't honestly remember. I really can't tell you how much I would enjoy running this course, even in my daily (a 2000 Mk4 VW Golf 2.0 8 valve 5 speed (CAI, 3" cat-back, that is in desperate need of a turbo kit or 1.8t swap).
Its weathertech now
Lemons of the world, unite! I knew I should have kept hold of my Datsun 200B, that piece of poo would have fit in perfectly there! I bought it for 300 Australian, so 150 your money (I was ripped off because it was fit for a scrap heap) but that was two decades ago.....
Can I bring a rental car? I can get a weekend for under $500.
No, you can't. Not only would it not pass safety inspection, but both the race and the rental agency wouldn't allow it. Also, any insurance on the rental car does not apply on race tracks.
@bigpigslapper Oink lol they would just silently hand you a bill for a new car.
back in the 1960's, ''people' (staying generic to protect the not so innocent) would rent Hertz Shelby Mustangs (all of them are green, btw)... on a Friday. Yank the motor, dump them into their hot rods, race all weekend, and Sunday night reinstall the engines back into the rental chassis. Buyer beware if you see an all original Hertz Shelby Mustang come up in Hemmings!! :)
Built not rented buddy.😂
iirc back in the Altamont days someone actually did this; 07? maybe 08? they rented some generic car like a ford escort, got ALL the insurances; a bolt-in cage kit(illegal these days in lemons iirc) and basically beat the crap out of it.
Where is this?
This is glorious.
this looks super fun
Why can't NASCAR and other racing Sports be this honest like I would actually respect them more for telling me the truth.
I’m setting racing in a round of lemons as my goal, I’m 18 now with a summer job in Spartanburg SC lol so I got some work to get done before I get there. It looks like it would be a blast not only racing but hanging with everyone. My last name is also Lemmons so I think I’d be a natural fit😂 watch out for me in a while😉 y’all keep being awesome
if I spend 5$ on a lotery ticket and win a car , can I bring that car at the 24 of lemon with proof of purchase of the ticket ?
As long as you dont spend more than $495 on the car. Sure.
@16:33 Hell yeah, I would absolutely wear an animal onesie while racing in 24 hours of lemons, I actually had that same exact “A Christmas Story” pink rabbit onesie! I don’t have it anymore but I still have 18 animal onesies LMAO!

current car was 250... and has another 5 years or 200k left. know how to fix shit
$500 limit. Brings a car with a racing seat that costs more than $500 and is brand new. Yeah.
Lone Wolf safety equipment does not count towards the $500. And what car was new?
@@racerfink the mustang bucket, not the car. Don't get yer undies bunched. The rules obviously are "flexible".
@@LoneWolfZ I does make the brain cells spark with ideas... The price limit seems too low though. $500 is salvage car material. $3k and you hit a used car lot and find something in the back anyplace.
@@WALTERBROADDUS A complete tube chassis is safety equipment, right!?
@@WALTERBROADDUS Built four so far...two were below $500 (Saturn SL2 & Suzuki Esteem) and the third was $40 over the limit (1947 Plymouth Sedan) after we sold off the side glass and interior...fourth did not not keep track because we knew they would not be asked (about $1200, Dustbuster minivan). It actually is easy when you are starting out but gets exponentially more difficult as you either chase IoE's or class wins.
This is an idea that i think really should be existing in the UK. Seems like everyone has a dirt cheap form of racing these days but us, look at Finland with folkrace for example. But how do these guys get around things like track rental costs for the day? As that's always been the problem over here with trying to get guys off the cheap oval tracks in budget formulas where they pay maybe £20 - 40 in for 2 heats and a final in race entry fees, in comparison to racing on a proper circuit, where you can pay anything from £240 - £340 for Quali and 2 races.
The cars that run here for 500 usd could easily be sold for 10k+ in Europe
You pay too much for cars in Europe then.
They’re not 500 usd that fiesta was like 4k
Canada too.those 67 mustangs would be big buck in the rust belt we call eastern Canada.
@@jimmiller4667 If it was worth 10k, don't you think someone would have done that by this point?
Can someone tell me how they found a 67 mustang for $500
I'd go for a diesel, being from germany, I can tell you the fuel economy on those things is mind boggling, I once drove on the autobahn with a friend, I drove my Mark 7 GTI and he drove his A4 2l diesel. We were both limited by winter tires, so max speed was 135mph, my golf drank some good 20 mpg and that audi did 33 mpg.
Army guys brought out fully prepped Ecoboost mustang to a race for $500 cars.... Why?
Vin wiki has an amazing video on all this
cajun jihads lmfao! x'D
FANTASTIC Idea! Bring it to the Nürburgring and I'm in!
Could Germans even do this? Do you have old cars lying about?
So on each end of the spectrum, you have a car that’s way overbuilt, capable and expensive being raced around with genuinely cheap sketchy cars. So you have cars that are fast but you are more likely to care about hurting the car vs cars that aren’t fast but people will push them way hard because they’re essentially expendable.
This looks HILARIOUS! I wanna go... lol
I like the tech guys
Who was that gorgeous driver with the braid. O.O
I enjoy finding my teams car in lemons videos
I like how they say it was made to get people in the racing but they are charging more than any serious racing organizations for the weekend of racing. This is made to grab money from people that don’t know anything about racing or driving but it makes them feel good that they are “racing” . Plus 0 cars are close to 500$ .
1:09 the dude needs to quit lemons racing and go back to school
Comic Con must host this kinda stuff.

The tires and wheels alone are worth like 2k. He mentioned 3k extra laps so the bs judge valued the car at 30k

You can noise reduce it, but you can't "remix" it. That won't repair bad audio.

I have a 96 corolla I bought for $1800 with 176k miles on it. She's at 352k miles at the moment and definitely looks the part. She isn't very fast but damn is she reliable. I bet I could sell it to my gf and then buy it back for $400 and put $100 in suspension parts because in her current state she is just dangerous to drive. Then I could run the lemons
Selling and buying back wouldn't help.
Have a good theme. Have fun. Make it safe. Have fun. And you are good.
You need suspension parts? I've been driving a Mercury Sable with a broken rear spring for months. Lol. Last one broke, and I drove THAT for months like that.
Then, a big debate at the mechanic's about replacing ONE spring. Difference: 450.00. It'll sit lopsided. OK, then. Humor me. If it's lopsided, you win...
I won that round. Got it 2 years before the other one broke. Haha.
Also gotta put specified roll bars, cutoff switch, tow hooks/loops, steering lockout removed, racing harness, et cetera.

i love that idea. but i kinda dont like that there are teams in the field that clearly have way more money in thier car then they should. would be nice if actually everybody would have a fair chance. i mean even after all the down talking of not to take it serious, its still a competition. and yet the one with the most money still gets the advantage. but id still compete. but really with a 500$ car (minus safety equipment). but we dont have that here in germany. 😔
