    I’ve found a few dashers, they’re surprisingly not cheap. The owners either kept them in immaculate shape or “know what they have”

      That’s because they’re 40+ years old. Nobody who didn’t care kept a lump like that long enough to make it to 2023.

    Quite surprised the Merkur Scorpio has never been raced in lemons. The british version (the ford Granada mk3) used to be quite popular for banger racing. With some of the weight gutted out they were strong, quite quick, and handled pretty well. And with them using the same 2.9l colongne v6 as the ranger, there's plenty of drivetrain parts for them.

      I’ve seen one. Once. And it was a drive it into the ground owner who had it. If he still isn’t dragging the thing to campus daily, it almost certainly has returned to the earth by now.

    The Mopar M body was not based on the B body cars, but rather the F body 1976 Volare/Aspen. A front suspension with transverse torsion bars was the main difference, the rest being a similar leaf spring rear setup. You can see the Volare in the doors, roof line, and most glass, and the chassis is nearly identical. The bigger R body you referenced was indeed based on the B body, a rush job when a large car was needed for a short time, but it has nothing to do with the M or F body.

    • @jessebrook1688
      @jessebrook1688 Před rokem +1

      Huh. I've never seen an R-body. Seeing that they were made for just 3 model years, I guess that explains it. I'm really surprised that nobody's raced one in LeMons. Or a Fifth Avenue/Diplomat/Caravelle M-body. Everybody remembers that Chrysler rebadged the heck out of the K-car, but they don't remember the Mirada/Cordoba/LeBaron/Diplomat/Caravelle/Fifth Avenue/Imperial/Aspen/Volaré M-body cars. The next generations of most of those names were K-cars, so that's probably why, but looking at Chrysler's 1982 lineup really shows how strapped for cash they were.

    I drove an 84 Celebrity wagon in high school with the 2.8L V6. It sounded great going nowhere fast with a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler and a 3 inch pipe out the back! I'd love to find my old wagon and bring it to a Lemons race...

    DO NOT denigrate the Iron Duke. My father bought a 1967 4 door Nova with an Iron Duke and powerglide in 1973 and sent me off to college in it. After graduation I cheerfully gave it back after trying out my credit score at the local Chevy dealer. The Nova was parked and forgotten. In 1998 it was my sons turn to go off to school and yes I revived the Nova. It had patina before any of us knew what patina was. My son VERY grudgingly went off to college, where he watched from his dorm window as thieves drove off in the night with the alarm blaring....he was not upset, I'll admit to a bit of nostalgia and loss. HOWEVER, the flip side is that 25+ years later my son and I still like to have imaginary conversations between the two thieves as they hurried away from the scene of the crime in a 3200 lbs car with perhaps as much as 40 horsepower, a power glide and 4 doors.

    I owned a 4dr maverick in my 20's. Loved that car. Was a drift missle with an I6, rwd, and tiny tires.
    The interior was pristine, but ugly. Simple and easy to work on. The 2dr ones are hard to find for lemons money.

    I’ve had an idea in the back of my mind for some time if I ever found a VW Dasher for Lemons money, to call it the Rainbow Dasher and give it a My Little Pony theme. I’ve seen the four-door versions go for close to Lemons money, but they’re very rare nowadays so it doesn’t happen often.

    The 5th Aves are rare on the ground for a pretty simple reason, actually: They were pretty good demo derby cars - provided they weren't rusted to crap. They were one of the last full frame cars of any sort out there, and they have been eaten up at fairgrounds and special events for years now. The 318 had no discernable power but could run for a long time without any cooling.
    Use to rent these out when I works in the car whoring business many, many years ago. They were popular and horrible all at once.

    The thing is that the celebrity is the antithesis of fun to drive. You can make lemons about quirky antics all you want, but as an organization you eventually will have to recognize that the racing itself should be fun.
    Your marketing makes it clear that you go for mechanical hassles, and once your team has put in half a decade, then the judges ignore the rules enough for them to put together a car that will last through a whole race. It makes starting a team sound unappealing to me now.
