When I was in second grade, I sent a letter to Missy Giove because I was blown away watching videos of her MTB races. She was in college in Durango at the time, and responded within a few days by sending an autographed Yeti jersey along with a five-page handwritten letter. It made my life. Missy Giove was and is awesome!!
Saw Missy race several times and she was always super nice to myself and all the fans who approached her for autographs and photos with her. She's a charming soul and one hell of a competitor! Nothing but the best to you, Missy.
awesome footage. Huge fan of her and all the athletes back when the sport started. Very inspirational woman. I hope she is doing and getting back on track with her life.
Thanks FTJ. I really enjoyed watching this interview and hearing Missy's voice! She is an inspiration. Missy Giove is one of the few superstars who snaps me to attention. I am saddened to learn of her current difficulties and am further saddened to read hater comments (kick 'em while their down, eh, ScabbyNubtail? Fix your charred heart and soul. It hurts me just to be let in on your thoughts.)
I used to be anti-pothead in high school and the first summer after school I changed my mind when I actually had to pay bills and such and was around a lot of people who just needed to relax after work just to sleep.
Great rider in those old days. She's a legend. A shame about her status right now for such an icon. So sad about the drug thing and her problems. Here in the Netherlands those things wouldn't have happened with our softdrug policy. But, yeah quite stupid in the States....:(.
1993...I have interviewed Missy 3 times. The 1st time in Durango 1992 shortly after she accidentally spat upon a NORBA official when she may or may not have missed a gate during a dual slalom event. The interview was scrapped per John Parker at YETI. The 2nd time was just outside of Boulder Summer 1993. This is the edited version of that interview. The 3rd time was in July 2009 6 days before she was arrested for trafficking weed across state lines. I'm still sitting on that interview.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Missy's father died in 2003. In the USA the accused are innocent until proven guilty. Furthermore, your insensitivity regarding sexual preference indicates your low level of sophistication.

Been in MTB since it began. Missy and HBall are two racers that never give in or give it up. :)

Missy is truly one of a kind. There are only a handful of people in this sport that have made an impact like she has.
Good thing she fled. She's in Mexico or Brazil or Taiwan, far from a bike but still living on the edge. Thata'girl
She is a hero from the early days...a rare bird
