    I can see why a teen or adult gamer first playing this would be disappointed but for me as a 5-6 year old (who hadn’t played Crash as I was an N64 kid) this was fun! While it doesn’t hold up as well today the way Quackshot or Ducktales do, I think it’s still a perfectly inoffensive game.

    It was one of my favourite games on the N64, i think the controls were alright, but i may be wrong, haven't played it since i was a kid. Sure the later levels were hard, but i had a ton of fun (and sometimes frustration) playing through the whole game.

    Also: isn't that a little bit much critisicism for the game? It might be my nostalgia glasses but i felt like it was a solid game and i remember the soundtracks to this day.

    I guess I'm in the minority on this one, because I played it as a kid and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the fact that the game actually talked at the important parts, unlike so many other games that were just text. I liked that there were 2 different types of platforming modes. When I discovered the time trials, I got determined and that was a challenge. I also didn't find the controls to be all that hard to use. My only issue was I didn't have a memory card to save it, so I would leave my N64 on for days because I didn't want to lose my data. Actually considering all I put my N64 through as a kid, I'm surprised it still works. But back to Goin Quackers. I really liked it. At some point I'll buy one of the many other versions and compare it to N64, but as it stands, I thought it was actually quite good.

    I remember seeing a commercial of this game back in either between 2000 and 2001, which I wanted it for the PS1, yet I never got the game until about late last year I think, and I agree. The game is really a poor man's Crash Bandicoot, as it plays almost exactly like Crash Bandicoot on the PS1, due to the gameplay, hub structure and level designs

    This game was a nightmare to beat because of the sluggish controls. It took me 6 years to beat this game cause I never had a game pack for the N64 so after I completed the game, I was like, "that's it, I'm never playing this game again!"

  • @WWammyy
    @WWammyy Před 10 lety

    Point on CG the N64 never had CG cut scenes for almost every game.
    The main competition was PS1 and Dreamcast at the time not the that's practically nextgen to what the N64 was not fair to compare. Dreamcast at the time was a new console and while I did have it no one else did most people at the time had the PS1 or N64 if comparing to the PS1 edition then that version had worse graphics than the N64 it was always a toss up whether you wanted smooth filtered graphics or CG cut scenes.
    While the N64 game didn't compare well to the Dreamcast , Gamecube , PS2 they were on more powerful hardware.
    But then again you are right it didn't compare well to the other platformers on the console either

    Disney games were great when Capcom or Sega developed them in the early '90's, but by the time this game came around, Disney games no longer had the pedigree they once did. Hell, not even Rare could make a great Disney game, as we saw with Mickey Speedway.

    This may sound stupid, but this game was actually the very first item I bought after I signed up for an account on eBay! (that was sometime in the middle of 2012)
    It was a game I missed out on as a kid, so I was very curious about it and interested in seeing if it was any good. Anyway, I enjoyed it for what it was, but you were right about it being too easy and the controls being occasionally frustrating. And that's unfortunate, being that I really wanted to like it more :\

    As an N64 magazine you will no doubt remember there was the Nintendo Official Magazine. As a rule of thumb I would buy two magazines each month: the NOM and N64 Mag and would often compare reviews. If both magazines gave positive reviews to game, it was must buy. Slight discrepancies would need mulling over. But on a number of occasions, they were widely differing opinions where one would give a game an overwhelming positive review and the other completely slate it. NOM gave this and Tarzan a 90% whereas N64 magazine and several others completely slated it and rightly so. It was times like this that made me realise not only how biased NOM were but how great N64 mag were. I can understand NOM being the official magazine having some obligations to certain games in order to flog "perceived" popular games. But it still baffles me to this day that they would give this game a 90% (fulfilling their "Awesome: Must Buy" criteria)

    • @n64glennplant
      @n64glennplant  Před 9 lety

      Yeah you know if I remember correctly NOM also did a block on conkers bad fur day due to its adult content. If I remember they either refused to preview or review it or something like that

    • @BrotherMalcolmX1
      @BrotherMalcolmX1 Před 9 lety

      ***** Re: CBD, I'm not sure I remember their stance on that although I vaguely remember them giving it the 90% + rating as an essential buy. But it says a lot about the credibility of their reviewers/writers if they could place the likes of Donald Duck and Tarrzan amongst the essential must buy games on the system.

  • @Extaticus
    @Extaticus Před 9 lety +3

    I remember the Dreamcast version being rather good, actually. It even had true widescreen support, which was fairly unheard-of at the time. Let's face it, though: you didn't get an N64 for the multiplatform games - especially not those that were substantially better on other platforms. Quack Attack and Rayman 2 are two cases in which the Dreamcast versions obliterate the comparatively poor N64 ports.

    • @BryanX64
      @BryanX64 Před 8 lety +1

      What, with the horrible MIDI'd music, graphical downgrades and missing content?

    • @BryanX64
      @BryanX64 Před 8 lety

      I don't know how it's "missing content" or downgraded graphics if the N64 version was the first version of the game ever released. The Dreamcast and PS1 versions are ports of the N64 game.

    • @Extaticus
      @Extaticus Před 8 lety +2

      Actually, the PC and N64 versions were developed simultaneously, and the PC version has the original soundtrack and graphics fully intact. If your entire argument was that the N64 version was the "best" version purely because it was the "first" version, then you're seriously misguided. Ubisoft exclusively uses the Dreamcast version as a basis for the newer ports of the game, albeit missing some optional mini-games.

      I thought I was the only one haha I played this game as a kid but got a game over in the third section/world (Magica) and would have needed to start the game from scratch, which was extremely frustrating (even more so considering this game is targeted towards children). For games aimed at children there should be an unlimited amount of retries/replay's otherwise it will get frustrating and unrewarding since the progress is just wiped out.

  • @chrisbg99
    @chrisbg99 Před 10 lety

    The problem doesn't seem to be simplicity. Simplicity allows versatility. What seems to me to be the bigger problem is that they used two styles, the more traditional 2D view and the Crash Bandicoot 3D style, which while simple had them designing two different kinds of stages rather than focusing on one style.

    • @n64glennplant
      @n64glennplant  Před 10 lety +1

      yeah, crash had both styles as well remember and that worked well, here it just seems like a poor mans crash (even though the actual cost was far higher!)

    Great review Glenn :) It's such a shame that so many Disney licenesed games always get such a lax production, long gone are the days of Ducktales, Aladdin,Lion King and Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers! I'm so glad I had Banjo, Mario and Conker and managed to miss this game when I was a kid, can you imagine if this game was your first experience of a N64 platformer? ;P

    • @n64glennplant
      @n64glennplant  Před 10 lety

      @RetroEjit Před 10 lety +1

      ***** Thats crazy is'nt it? Like 5 versions of this mess! It's insane how blind and greedy some companies are, you'd think they'd want to make something that would best represent them as oppose to knock out mindless tat! ;)

    • @keeperxiii
      @keeperxiii Před 10 lety +1

      YoloGamingShow Eh.. The PS1 version was pretty decent. It was an easier Crash Bandicoot clone, but a good one nonetheless. The main problem with Disney games of the time was the easy difficulty. Otherwise they had some decent games. Toy Story 2 is pretty good for a PS1 game. It has a Mario 64 feel to it and a great sense of scale. You should try it. It also has a ton of versions.

    We might get another Donald Duck game man who knows. As long as they make it better than this game that's all that counts man. I've actually never heard of this game until I saw this video. It's too bad you don't recommend this game because it's based on a Disney character and just about everyone in the world absolutely LOVES Disney to death because of it's funny classical characters and moments. Maybe I should play Mickey Speedway USA then if this is the case.

    Also, if the game is so easy, why in the gameplay the person playing never has more than just a few lives? :P
