    Thanks for this. The most common frustration is lack of clarity, strange murkiness of water and lack of vivid colour and 'sharpness'-- which was not how it was in real life at all so seeing such distorted, underwhelming footage/photos is greatly disappointing. I'm going to try out a new camera and see how it goes. Currently trying to learn from experienced people, watching tutorials and reading articles, hoping for the best. I'll be in crystal clear calm water with a healthy reef (Yaeyama Islands) so here's hoping. Thank you for sharing some good basic suggestions here.

    reallly awesome video and absolutely helpful for me just starting on video UW. I am struggling a bit on the composition and white balance. I am a cave diver and I want to continue with the UW video in the caves. Sometimes I do have some cave mates to dive with but sometimes I don´t. Plus I want to do video to show my family and non diver friends all the wonders I see so I would like to do cool videos on 1st person view so they get the feeling of being there. My struggle now is on composition and light. Water in the caves is crystal clear, so no problems for viz, although I don´t want to bring millions of lumens in there as there are lots of formations that are super white and get over exposed and i also want to leave some areas really dark just to give the feeling there of mystery and show the cave passages available. But i really found out that many of my videos they just look like I am filming a bunch of rocks, that is why I would like to ask you if you have ever done some cave diving and have some tips for cave filming?

    • @HugoMattsson
      @HugoMattsson  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks man! really appreciate it. Cave diving, that sounds awesome! I've haven't got the opportunity to try it out yet tho.. haha. But I know what you mean, and I can imagine it's difficult to capture the "right mood & atmosphere". generally it's always better with too much rather than too little because you can always make it darker in post-production. So a wide light attached with your camera would be preferable. But you can also switch between clips with low light (maybe a torch) and these big epic shots of a cavern :) And if you're shooting first person view its nice to get the hands in so the viewer get the feeling that they're viewing it "from your eyes". Hope some of that was useful.

      @@HugoMattsson Thanks! I will try to bring more light and see what happens. I wish I have sort of a drone to attach the lights and make some nice shots controlling the lights placements from far away... but deffinitely I will try to get creative and see how it comes. Some caves are really difficult ones as rocks and formations are different colors and textures and whille some are good with lots of lights, some others get so bright that burn out the whole scene. Some other caves are so huge that my not even 3 big lights with wide beams are enough, but it will certainly have some dark areas. Thanks again for the tips and the video. And whenever you have a chance, you should try out cavern experience, maybe you get addicted to overhead environments and get certified as full cave diver. Here in Mexico where I live and work, we have the best and ideal places to get the best training. Be safe and see you around!

      No worries, mate. hmm I have a red filter which I've been using on my deeper dives but I've realised that with a powerful light it doesn't make much difference, so red filter is mostly important if you dive without a dive light.

    • @HugoMattsson
      @HugoMattsson  Před 3 lety

      low pass is a feature in audio editing which cuts off all frequencies above a selected frequency :) So it sounds like you hear the music underwater, basically

  • @alle_namen_schon_vergeben708

    Would you really recommend to let the iso (or other light options) on auto? Isn't that looking unprofessional? I heard the go pro tents to overlight stuff and it's better to set the max iso to a lower level and correct that in the post production 🤔

    • @HugoMattsson
      @HugoMattsson  Před 3 lety

      Well, it's of course better to have as low ISO as you can, but since light conditions can vary so much during a dive. cave, shallow water, deep etc. and you can adjust during the dive it's better to let the camera work it's magic

    Thanks for the tips and vids. I have a question about macro: The GoPro cams being wide angle, does this limit your ability to get close-up shots or can you get very close to small subjects and still get the camera to focus properly on them...? and if so, did you find being so close for close-ups has too big a penalty from blocking light away from the subject?

    • @HugoMattsson
      @HugoMattsson  Před 3 lety
