- Lana Del Rey - Born To Die FULL ALBUM REACTION! (first time hearing). After so many requests from the XO faithful, I had to check out Lana's debut album. And I'm so thankful I did. Thank you for your continued support and for ensuring that these ears get blessed with all the music they should have heard over the years. Also, was she talking about the Joker? I've decided that she was and I won't hear anything else now.

This guy is having religious experience 8 years too late lol
lmaoo
never too late to enter the lana verse 🤣
amber lawlor true 😀
💀💀
I’m cackling 🤣
Lana has this nostalgia and melancholy in her voice and music that I’ve never felt before in music. Maaan! “Born To Die: Paradise Edition” is like my religion. ✨💯💫
The fact she hasn’t won a Grammy yet is actually sickening. Lana is just ahead of her time.
Mermaidlagoonworld she’s too good for the Grammys
I was so pissed off when NFR didn't win AOTY
Remove this comment, I don’t like being reminded 😭😭
Los Grammys no hacen al artista, so
Right??? She’s the one that started that whole vintage nostalgia vibe. Came out with a unique style both in music and in video production. She’s inspired so many artists worldwide! Written pure, bold and edgy lyrics. A fucking icon and Grammys is so unfair but what’s new
So jealous he's getting to experience this masterpiece for first time right now 😭
you put it in words
same
I remember listening to this album for the first time, covered in goosebumps because of how beautiful each track was. I love watching reviews of this album bc it takes me to that place again. Wish I could experience the feeling again 😭
Yesssss this is why I really liked watching this video
so agree with your comment and responses haha. so many memories, this album is such a jem
Everybody is a gansta until discover this album
Maybe that’s why they know us lana fans as gangsta, she knows her audience 😂😂
Göksu ne işin var burda 😂
Then they're even more gangsta 🤫🤤😍🤣
Everyone’s gangsta after listening to this album
🔥🔥🔥 Yesss, also “Ultraviolence” by Lana and Lorde’s “Pure Heroine” album, I would also put Billie Eilish’s “When we fall asleep where do we go” album too; *ITS GIVING when it shouldn’t been gave 💅🏻* 🔥🔥🔥
This album has not aged a bit to me, this could've dropped today and still be as aggressively iconic. Audio gold in my opinion
Yess all her albums are timeless masterpieces ❤️
palemoonlight96 not all lol
Exactly!
I am literally convinced I will forever love it
LoL yeah that's exactly what I was thinking.
can't believe its almost been a decade since the album dropped
Video Games is literally 10 years old. JEEZ!!!!
gurl nobody can :0
And it's one of only 3 female solo albums to be on Billboards Top 100 albums currently.
it’s crazy. we are all watching our lives flying by. it’s very emotional and music brings it out 😩
Indeed.. I was too late to love her
I wish kids in 100 years time will be studying Lana del Rey’s lyrics for English literature
👌
They wouldn’t be. Her lyrics are nothing special

I love how during “National Anthem” he brought up how it reminds him of like Marilyn Monroe and J.F.K, and the music video of the song is like a recreation of when Marilyn sang happy birthday to him!

He didn't come up with that himself. He even said it
she is literally her own genre of music
exactly 💯
Agreed
Especially the first album. Who would’ve thought to combine trap beats and alternative indie vocals?? Like wtf 😂😂 but yeah, it’s hard to find music like hers. Early SZA (before CTRL Era) would be the closest but SZA early work definitely has a different sound than Lana’s.... it’s crazy to not find similar music but it has to be out there
@@micahcook2408 funny cause I don't really listen to female artist that much(sorry if doesn't sound right) but Lana if the first female I really dive into her music catalogue funny enough it was SZA who i really vibe a lot a few years later.
I mean, there are a ton of artists within Chamber Pop, Baroque Pop that are really popular to the genre. I mean, it’s interesting to see her go from explicitly Baroque Pop to something more striped back and guitar driven, but she is not an anomaly within the scene.. I mean, not anymore.
Off to the Races was when I knew I was listening to something legendary.
Jennifer Cox one of my all time favs by her 💖😏
Yessssd it’s one of my favesssd
one of my fav songs by her. such a masterpiece 🥺
Was national anthem for me
I feel as though Off to the Races is pretty underrated amongst casual Lana listeners!
this made me realize I did not deserve this kinda artistry when I was 12,.., her mind!!!
You were lucky, I was 7 and my young ass thought it was too "sad" 💀
I was 15 and I felt so sophisticated while listening to her
Carmen was the first song I heard from lana and I immediately fell in love, still coping with my unhealthy obsession
listening to this album at the age of 12 is the origin story of my interest in daddies
@@dc9067 me too LOL now I’m a die hard BTD Stan 😂
Critics tried to bury her under an avalanche of hate, but the fans knew what she was, a unique talent
and if she would’ve submitted to them and not continued with music there literally would be no Olivia Rodrigo, Billie eilish, madison beer & many other new singers
Even Taylor Swift said some of her songs were highly influenced by Lana's music.@@zakikin6006
Born to die, though lyrically weaker than her other albums, is a true legacy album. Longest charting female debut in history - AND STILL CHARTING! This album’s soundscape was something completely revolutionary for a 2012 album and it’s only a decade later we can see , in retrospect, the influence this album can be felt. even right now! Billie eilish literally said her upcoming album is inspired partially by BTD. Not to mention it’s influence in the entire modern landscape of female pop music. The critics options TRULY doesn’t matter when it comes to this album. Not the slightest.
The world wasn't ready for Lana Del Rey back in 2012. So glad more and more people keep discovering her. Rediscovering her, in this case.
Her music is an entire immersive experience. The lyrics, tone, music, sound effects, the way she styles her voice, and the vibe/mood can't be dissected separately. Which is why I think some simply just don't "get" or know wtf the point is. Not that it's a complex thing to do. I don't think it's about intelligence. But it requires you to be willing to be vulnerable and connected to something within yourself that connects you to the rest of the world..... your soul and emotions type of shit (🥱😴 lol, I don't take offense if ppl roll their eyes & yawn to my words).
And it requires you not to take one thing more seriously than the other. Ex) if you overthink and are too critical of the lyrics without putting the lyrics in context with the other elements, you might very well miss it, as in-not get it. Much of appreciating or disliking music lies with understanding the lyrics, and/or enjoying music (and beat). However, Lana requires you NOT to experience her music in dualities. Because "getting" the lyrics alone, or music alone isn't nearly as important as taking it in as musical form of introspection, retrospection and extrospection. It's not like eating a burger AND fries. Or steak AND potatoes. It's a plate of something created from familiar things but _MELDED_ together to form something we're not used to recognizing on a plate. You can't easily spot where the burger is differentiated from the fries. Because it's not about identifying the pieces of her music, it's about letting it plant and bloom into whatever experience it creates for you. She's a "Go for a ride and be okay not knowing where you're going" type of artist.
And I know, I know,......that was the deepest comment anyone has *ever* said in this universe. And I'm like the smartest person of *all* time. And to that I say, you're welcome everyone.
yeaaa
4 year after this comment, this album is still breaking its own single-day streaming records. Only a few days ago it had its biggest streaming day EVER. The longevity of this album is remarkable. It even was in the top 10 most streamed albums on Spotify and the oldest album in the top 10 by far.

Lana is the defining artist of the 2010's. Every singer that emerges after her, cites Lana as a major influence.
fun fact: the lyric “now my life is sweet like cinnamon” is actually meant to be ironic, since cinnamon on its own tastes bitter, not sweet.
Irem Yilmaz lol I read that on genius lyrics
Cinnamon is sweet. It's only bitter when you eat too much
Chanandler Bong guess she meant that life can be bittersweet sometimes, sort of a pleasure tinged with sadness and pain
Irem Yilmaz I was just laying in bed last night wondering why she was saying cinnamon was sweet 😂😂

Jon is the goat of reacting - goes deep with the song instead of just being hype can actually tell he’s hearing everything in the song
very correct. most reactors overreact and don't give any feedback on what they feel or understand
Jon actually has things to say about the music and picks up some details that I never noticed. Usually not a fan of reaction channels but this is great.
Yup true most reactors nowadays just agree and say they like every song just for the views and such, this was a great reaction 👌🏽
Lost in Vegas are cool and do the same. Funny they’re kind of the inverse of Jon in that they started as hip hop only listeners and are now on a rock/metal marathon. They do a good job of promoting small artists too

The fact that so many people react to Born To Die 5-8 years after its release and don't mention anything about the songs feeling outdated, but timeless. Lana is truly an artist

Lana del rey is so underrated. She's one of the best, her music has a different effect on me
Goody Ik multiple grammy nominations, multiple winning awards, the queen of indie, the queen of disaster (tiktok), the queen of summertime, well she IS not underrated btw :)
rar. Even though she has had all that, she still doesn't get enough recognition and credit. A lot of people didn't know who Lana was until her collab with Ariana Grande back in November. Lana is really on recognized for her popular songs off BTD and her Lust For Life collabs. High By the Beach is also an honorable mention. Her music isn't necessarily radio friendly nor what people want to play on the radio because it doesn't align with modern pop and production so she is severely underrated in that stance.
rar. not indie!! but very much alternative
Be warned though, her other albums are way slower and less hip hop than this one. I love this album so much but I also love her slower stuff, and since you don’t seem to as much I hope you go into the other albums with lower expectations!
Maria C I love Lana
Exactly
Lust for Life and Honeymoon have hip hop influences in certain tracks
I love that her sounds change up from album to album! It seems like she fits every sort of sound with her storytelling & poetry. She’s so talented. 💗
Each album has its own majesty, distinct but cohesive with each other, listening to her albums needs you to be in different moods also
my new kink is watching grown men fall in love with Lana
Guide to Lana’s albums:
Born to Die: Hip-Hop influences
Paradise: EP to Born to Die; Hip-Hop Influences
Ultraviolence: Psychedelic Rock / Rock in general
Honeymoon: Jazzy / Baroque
Lust for Life: Hip-Hop influences / Folk Rock
Norman F*cking Rockwell! : Psychedelic Rock / Folk Rock
LoganArnoldKicks all albums that i will listen to the death of meeee lmao
i do think Born To Die has more of a hip hop influence than Paradise. Paradise is more classic rock
And every single one of them is an artful masterpiece of their own ✨

Jackie Elizabeth i agree, the original is so much better and intense. lanas original melody matches the lyrics so much better!! it lets us feel it since it’s a pretty dark song lyrically
ALICE GRILLO such a banger
Jackie Elizabeth I love both versions
I like both for different reasons
She studied the philosophy of death and religion in university and apparently that had a large effect on this album, as she had graduated relatively recently at time of release.

I have heard of her before from when summertime sadness got popular but that was it... until I started listening her in last last year to some of her unreleased stuff. And since lockdown I listened to a lot of her stuff and got hook. She is just so addicting and her music just slaps 😂
5:32 it's actually kind-of about Lolita :D "Lolita. Light of my life, fire of my loins." is how Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov starts. Since that's a story about a pedophile, I'm guessing this song is romanticizing relationships between young girls with daddy issues and older man. Still one of my favorite songs tho, that trope hides a lot of tragedy underneath.
Lana also said that she´s "a writer first and a singer second"
Hope you do all her albums, you’re gonna love Ultraviolence

born to die is a classic but i think ultraviolence and norman fucking rockwell! are her best so far, can’t wait for his reaction!!
YES ULTRAVIOLENCE IS THE GREATEST
I don't know if he'd love Ultraviolence if he's expecting a followup of Born to Die. I think before going into UV, he must be reminded that he's going into deeper and darker territories. Personally, I love UV the most
The chronological order of the records show us the growing of Lana, her thoughts, her mind. Like a fan (since 2012) I have to say NFR! is her best album for the moment.
Is honest, sincere and mature. Her voice is clear and the instrumental is wonderfull.
After so many years I didn't think she was going to surprise me with something better, but she shut my mouth and blow my head. My top three: 1 - Norman Fucking Rockwell! 2 - Ultraviolence 3 - Born to Die

@@Guti_o9 was it shades of cool?
Christian Gutierrez yeh man I watched ride about 5 times that night hahah
That's probably the best way to be introduced to her music 😂
in majority of her songs she's actually singing about the same guy, whom she was very in love, but he was very toxic
Do you know who the guy was?
@@michaelacaleb7919 I was reading a lot about that, but all of it are just theories. I believe she is singing abou the same guy in born to die, ultraviolence and honeymoon. In born to die she is singing about how he hurt her and that she will always love him - ultraviolence is much more darker, as she goes into details of that relationship (she describes him as cult leader and a depressed person). some fans believe his name is jim, as she mentions that name in a lot of songs, even the unrealeased ones (maybe it's jimmy gnecco, as she wrote a song about him and it was leaked). well what i know for sure is that her song In my feelings is about G-Eazy fucking her over Halsey and I believe Mariners Apartment Compplex is about Barrie James O'neill
Megi Rosic I believe the Jim she references is actually Jim Bean (because she said her first love was alcohol and her choice of drink was whiskey when she was an alcoholic), Jim Jones (because of the guru she followed in NYC), and Jim Morrison because she explicitly uses his name. Jimmy Gnecco is a musician who actually opened for lana on one of her tours, and they met in 2014, but he said on instagram that he’s not the one. i don’t believe she’s singing about jimmy gnecco because the time periods of when they met and when she wrote the songs do not really coincide (plus she reuses/repurposes lyrics a lot, so my personal theory is that she used the name jim once and if stuck because it’s pretty versatile and can have a lot of interpretations) i think jim might not be the actual name of the person but just a pseudonym

Elliot Cortese I mean.. I think I agree with “uhhhhh.” This album has a lot of problems and tbh I don’t think she really hit her stride until Honeymoon. Love parts of this album to death, but this album doesn’t survive outside of the cult appreciation and the then novelty of mixing classical motifs with Hip-Hop styled production.

There's a fan made mv of this song that uses the joker and Harley Quinn scenes for it.....I was so excited when he said that
Imagine hearing this album for the first time again
definitely listen to Ultraviolence which is her next album, it has a lot of rock influence you would appreciate !
Jon is THE GREATEST REACTOR on CZcams! Thank you for listening to Lana, she is severely an underrated artist that everyone thinks is a mainstream pop princess when in fact is a poet with layers and meanings in her songs
his reaction during off to the races is EVERYTHING to me holy shit lmao the best song of course
I just love how you can have so many memories attached to this album, its impossible to listen and not be taken back to a moment or a feeling.
