***** I was really surprised at them! Shooting live I don't really notice. But the people to each side of me complained to the RO saying "its too loud" and "its spitting fire that can't be safe". So the RO actually told me to refrain from shooting .357mag. That's what I get for going to a public range on a busy Saturday! That any getting muzzled! Thanks man!
love the videos. question: is the revolver the ultimate handgun? i just keep coming back to revolvers when looking for a new handgun, and nothing seems to be any better/reliable/powerful
PM Pruett -- this revolver is great it's 8 shot. Most are 5 or 6. Mine had light primer strikes so I sent it back to smith. I also bobbed my own hammer so it may have been my fault. .38 shoots fine but 357 is hooooot out of this it's so light. Revolvers rule though. Can't go wrong. Just buy a .357 so you have 2 different calibers to play with
OzarkNick I'll try to do this at some point. I have a variety of .357mag. Unfortunately the range close to me does not allow video recording...so I'll have to wait the next time I'm out near the public range. And never ever on the weekend...the BS I had to put up with that day. I actually was asked to stop shooting .357mag because the people next to me complained about the noise!?!?!?! Its a friggin' shooting range!
SweetWillyJonez No..compared to the Buf Bore that is. I would suspect those Gold Dots in say a light weight j-frame would punch pretty hard. I think they are not a "true" magnum loading. Its going about 990fps I think.
You near Michigan, you have alot of Revolvers and I am looking for one, I have a Savage model 1907 32 cal. manufactured in 1911 and would be interested in a trade for the right revolver.
Pete tracker34 or NC - seem like everyone I talk to that lives down there loves it! But yes PA is a nice state as well. There is a guy here I talk to often from PA but lives on the WV line and sounds like he has many places to shoot. Although it sound like nothing is out that way, LOL.
Great video, loved the stills of the muzzle/barrel blast. Since the barrel is removable does Smith & Wesson offer replacement barrels and shrouds in the event that one would want to install a 4" or 6" barrel?
David Goldberg I have been told no, this is only for the factory to mess with. A friend of mine had his barrel shroud get loose and he could move the whole thing and S&W told him under no circumstances is he to attempt to tighten it himself! Even the tool is not available for the public. I guess its a proprietary tool only to be used at S&W? So its not like the old Dan Wesson like TJ Hooker used!!!
My personal carry weapon is a late 90's vintage 342 no dash J-Frame.. My titanium cylinder has not been babied and i clean it with a bronze and nylon brush... If it gets really dirty i remove the crane and dunk the whole thing in Ed's Red solvent and let it soak for a day.. then clean brush it clean... Im not sure why Titanium even needs a "Protective" coating since Titanium is one of the most corrosion resistant metals out there... It does not oxidize readily.. and its impervious to salts and other corrosives.. Its tougher then steel but is softer and less wear resistant... I would say be gentle and avoid scraping and stainless steel brushes... otherwise i dont think you need to baby it all that much... IMO that 327 is a Combat Masterpiece in every sense of the word..... Compact, Lightweight, high capacity, Dead Reliable 357 Magnum Wheelgun... If there is any drawback its that an N Frame Smith has some generous proportions and can be hard to conceal.. Although in my experience, Weight is harder to deal with then size..
Liveluke9.23 so far so good. I have put a bunch of rounds through this thing and the only slight concern I have is cylinder erosion or flame cutting. Not so sure about shooting 125gr mags through this. Enormous flash and sparks (its like the 4th of July) and extremely loud. So loud even with hearing protection I feel my ear drums vibrate!!! So.... might have to rethink my carry load.
a lot of comments here and thank you for the videos. i have the trr8 and love it. now considering the pug.... i have had some issue with shooting a couple hundred 38 special and then my 357 casings getting stuck in the cylinder... have you ever had this issue and if so - ??? sounds like you didnt have an issue... might have to try other ammo...
A very common issue. What happens when you fire .38 special ammo is that a ring of Lead and powder residue builds up in the chamber throat at the point where the .38 special case ends. .357 magnum is longer than .38 special and the end of the case extends beyond that ring of fouling. You can push the cartridge past it (until it gets really filthy) but the pressure of firing irons the case right into the ring and makes ejection difficult. Give your cylinder a very good, thorough cleaning and make sure there's no build up at all within the cylinder. Then, if you intend on firing both magnums and specials, fire the magnums first.
Evan Hailey No, I just throw them in my bag... the moon clips I would never use for carry. For an 8-shot they are too bendy for me. If it was a 6-shot it would be a different story I think. I normally just put a speed loader in my pocket when I carry. If I were to carry moons I'd have to get a holder for the belt for sure.
thatspapsknife63 I would say at least 25oz. loaded. Well don't let it fool you. 125gr .357mag is pretty punchy. I don't think I would want to shoot a ton of 125gr mags in one range session as it would wear on me. The 135gr Gold Dot Short Barrel however didn't seem that punchy compared to the Buf Bore.
+northcacalacka545 I did some update vids on this revolver. Carried it all year long and yes I can recommend it but check out my update #4 final thoughts... czcams.com/video/J1QnYmaRCbk/video.html
Musicalbullet If I'm out that way its always a week night and there is no one there... but on a Sat. wow...packed and there are a handful of questionable people. There was on individual with a M&P 15-22 was pointed in my direction!
There's no protective coating on the Ti cylinder, it's just been media blasted. You don't have to baby it, but you might get some marks and "snail trails" from daily use. That's perfectly normal. I work with Ti every day making knives, I run media blasted finishes on my knives on frequent occasion. The one thing you have to worry about with Ti is galling; lead and copper from the bullets can get down into the pores of the Ti and gunk up the works, it's a mother to get out. I've had that issue with my 329PD.
***** thanks for the comment! What about all this erosion and flame cutting? A few more people have come forward that have owned the Ti cylinders telling me they had to ship it back to S&W because of erosion. Some sent me pics to show me and it looks horrible. Any thoughts on that? And thoughts on cleaning? I have a S&W contact / sub here but he just told me no less than 120gr. through it but kinda said just stick to 135gr+ to just avoid any issues?
***** Well I don't know what alloy of Ti S&W is using but I suspect it's either CP (commerically pure) or Grade 2/ 3Al2V (3% aluminum, 2% vanadium). Both of those alloys have a lower melting point that more expensive alloys like 6Al4V, which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3500 Fahrenheit IIRC. CP is under 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, again IIRC, and if you use really fast burning powder that generates a lot of heat or you shoot a high volume of fire thru the gun in one session I could see how you'd at least get some galling. There's a finish I use on my knives that's called "orange peel" and it's caused from heating Ti and then applying a mild abrasive like a scotchbrite belt and it causes the Ti to take on an orange-like texture. I don't know if it would cause accuracy issues, that's something you should take up with S&W, but on my 329PD I try to limit my shooting sessions to .44 specials and a few magnums... and since the gun weighs about as much as a Glock 17, that's generally about all I care to shoot anyway. I've had that gun for a little over a year now and I've never had issues, but I'd be careful shooting a lot of high pressure magnums thru the gun.
aS far as these large frame .357 revolvers go I think I will go for the Ruger GP-100 because of price and the durability. The Smith's just cost too much.
+TheOl1911 the 357 mag is a powerhouse however I've heard of people who been shot with those rounds and lived. if i have to shot somebody in defense of my life or somebody else, i want the assailant to go down and never get back up.
With that recoil activated self engaging internal lock on it, it's an immediate no buy for me. Look it up. Those internal locks on Smiths have locked themselves during recoil. Why risk it when there are other options out there like Ruger and Colt.
OH WOW! Now I can see it..The muzzle flash alone is one thing but look in front of the cylinder. A lot of burn off. No wonder after putting a lot of the 125 buffalo bore threw her she ended up losing the chamber. S&W Changed it out for him but again keep the rounds up to 140 and up. Or you will lose your chamber and if you do not notice it after awhile it will blow up in your face. NOT A GOOD THING.
angerboy2957 LOLOLOL! I'm on my wheelie kick again. Its funny when I was young I hated revolvers so much. But as I got older I really enjoy them (especially the "high tech" ones). None of my gun friends like revolvers. If its something other than a j-frame people at the range look at you like your from mars when you tell them I carry a full size revolver. I've spent a ton of time with them and feel pretty confident with one. You gotta get at least ONE wheelie!!!!
I plan on getting one for sure. Only downside i see is cost vs semis. But i love the 357 magnum. And you do get a lot of gun for the $. I like ones with 4 inch barrels.
This model is perfection itself. You're lucky man.
The recoil looked surprisingly light...glad you had some fun
Very cool revolver!!! I love the 8 shot capacity.
PART TIME PREPPERS thanks! I also love that it can hold 8 shots of .357mag. Pretty cool. But if it held only 6 I'd still feel confident.
Great vid, love this gun
Incredible flash captures!
***** I was really surprised at them! Shooting live I don't really notice. But the people to each side of me complained to the RO saying "its too loud" and "its spitting fire that can't be safe". Nice gun! Glad Rob at SR took care of you too.
suburban sentinel thanks SS. Good holster from Rob! Its working out very well! Stay safe!
Very smooth! Have you edc’d this gun much? Thank you for demonstrating the DA for this gun.
Love the stills of the Buffalo Bore in action!
Great vid, I really like this revolver!
miche turner thanks, this is really a great wheelie in my eyes. Enjoying it very much and its working out!
Dude! Those freeze frames are sick! Flames of fury! Haha! Nice
Musicalbullet LOL, thanks. When I was shooting it I honestly did not notice at all.
Will you do an update and cleaning video of the 327?
Amazing!
VirginiaSheepDog thanks! I dig it!

I'd be curious to see comparison photos between the "low flash" and regular powders.

Great shooting! Love the fireballs!
dylanunderpar I did not even notice them when I was shooting. Although the people next to me did, LOL.
My baby is still my s&w 360 carrying some Hornandy critical defense 38+p rounds that's my baby
Good times at the range!!! Those gold dots didn't seem to have that much recoil. I'm gunna have to track me some of those down.
SweetWillyJonez No..compared to the Buf Bore that is. I would suspect those Gold Dots in say a light weight j-frame would punch pretty hard. I think they are not a "true" magnum loading. Its going about 990fps I think.

Good One! You have to move to Pa. 3 very nice outdoor ranges within 6 miles of my place. 17 miles to indoor range that has training every so often.

TJ Hooker had a DW revolver? I need to see some of those shows!
David Goldberg yup, LOL. There are plenty of scenes where he would open his trunk and you'd see the pistol pack with different barrels.
Sweet weapon.
I❤revolvers 🤠
I just bought a pug nose having trouble keeping the cylinder clean how do you keep yours so clean?
Wow, you sure do put a lot of finger on that trigger my dude.

Any problems with the key lock activating on the pug or any of your smith's when shooting full power 357's?
Liveluke9.23 so far so good. I have put a bunch of rounds through this thing and the only slight concern I have is cylinder erosion or flame cutting. It needs a good cleaning and try using a hone or attach a brass brush to a drill.
Flex hone 800 grit
Do you use a loading block/case to carry your moon clips/speed loaders in?

It looked to me like in couple shots it was kicking shells out of the moonclips. Still though an awesome piece.
