Grampa told me, "if you need more than six bullets, you must have gone somewhere you shouldn't.

Being a route driver I was mugged twice, and in both instances we were on top of each other. Never saw them coming! Just felt the sucker punch, then it was on. After that I decided on a S&W 442 38+P as a carry gun. I took a defensive course which included using a firearm and found the lack of a slide, and a protruding hammer made a big difference in the reliability of getting off all the shots when up against a assailant while fighting for your life.

I put this list together a while back, it's not complete (and if you have anything to add please do) but I think it helps people measure the pros and cons of wheel guns:

I love all my revolvers. I prefer revolvers over semi-autos.

A good six shot .38 with +P ammo can be a formidable CC choice!

In all my years I have never had a fail to fire with a quality revolver, for me, there is only one Revolver,

I also love revolvers. I carry a Ruger LCR .357 mag. I love it because I can shoot cheap .38 for practice and my wife can carry hot .38's so she doesn't have to deal with the recoil. I do carry a .380 as a back up, but my go-to is always a revolver whether a .357 mag or a .44 mag.

I think a revolver is great for certain situations, and a high capacity semi is great for others. It's best to own and be familiar with both.

#15 rings, so true for me. Love my semi-autos, 1911's; sigs; glocks but I have learned from experience to trust a revolver when its an up-close encounter. Back in the 80's, I was the victim of an attempted robbery. The assailant came from behind me when I was carrying groceries with both hands. He grabbbed my jacket and pulled it over my head and then stuck a knife up to my chest. When he pulled my jacket, I was afraid it revealed my Sig 226 and he was going to respond with the knife. So I dropped my groceries, drew my Sig from behind my back and fired one round. I don't know where I struck him because of the jacket over my head, he was pulling my head and torso down. I know I wounded him, but I quickly realized I haven't stopped him. But can you believe I still had 14 rounds in my semi-auto but it jammed. Maybe because my jacket got in the way. I couldn't rack the slide to clear because with one hand I was holding his knife hand and the other I was holding my Sig. If I had a wheel gun, I could of squeezed off another round. Soon two of his buddies from the getaway car came out and was kicking me in the head. End result, I was stabbed 6 times and had my femoral artery severed. If it wasn't for my neighbor that hear the gunshot, I won't be here now. He quickly applied a tourniquet and save me.

I'm an auto kind of guy, but I find revolvers comforting.

That's the exact gun I have, the S&W Model 686. Have it 11 years now, and carry it every day. It's great shooting 38+p's, hollowpoints, which is enough for self defense, God knows!I put pretty wood stocks on it, but the size remains the same and it fit's my big hand quite well.

I have both revolver (GP100), and a Sig P232. Both have their pros and cons, but overall, you need at least 1 revolver in your collection. Deep down inside, I prefer revolvers.

The first 20 years I carried concealed, it was a revolver. For the next 20 years, it was a semi-auto. I've just gone back to a revolver for my next 20 years (if I live that long).

If you look at real world events involving guns, capacity only becomes an issue if you get into a gun fight. Why? Because if you get into a gun fight you're statistically going to miss over 80% of the time, and there's no guarantee that the shots you land will hit a vital area. With that said, though, in real world self-defense scenarios of actual people defending their homes or fighting off a mugger they tend to HIT over 80% of the time, and few rounds are fired before the threat is ended. People can talk "theory" all they want, but if you look at the news and read articles in real magazines, there's a world of difference between an actual gun fight and self-defense against petty crime or assault. Revolvers are a viable option. Despite what "tactical" people might say, they are reliable. Then again so is a quality semi-auto. I'm not saying one is better than the other when it comes to personal self-defense, but a revolver is capable of saving your life. Me, though, I carry a Glock. ;-)

It stuns me how angry people get when someone likes to carry a revolver, where do you live downtown Fallujah? I carry both a 1911 (which I get crap for all the time because god forbid someone carry a single stack) and a j-frame 638 and both work fine. So many people paranoid about running out of ammunition it's laughable. If your version of self defense is spray and pray the blood sucking lawyers are going to eat you alive.

If you hunt or shoot as a hobby, use whatever type of handgun you enjoy and works well for you. But for self defense, get a revolver. Works first time every time, which is exactly what you need in an emergency.

Loved this vid. I am a huge revolver fan. I see the revolver keeping it's niche for a long time to come, just like the bolt action rifle never quite goes obsolete despite the disparities in fire power between an auto loader.

1911, I think the best book on using and training to use a revolver in a defensive situation is one I believe is still in print, "No Second Place Winner," by Bill Jordan. Jordan was a Texas Ranger back when they used revolvers for their duty guns. I think what I love about Jordan's defense system is its simplicity.
