  • In this voice over video I talk about trading guns and what I witnessed at a gun shop. Apologizes for the heavy rain in the background. I was in my truck in a downpour while recording the voice track.

It’s clout. That is the best way to describe the newer generation of gun owners and enthusiast of most things.

Good discussion of the reality of gun values when it comes to sales or trade. I remember selling a nice Tikka .270 Win with stainless barrel and Steiner glass that cost more than the rifle and got less than 50% from the shop I bought it from. Sometimes with Optics / Scopes especially expensive ones, just better to keep them for the next one and just sell the gun. Thanks TheOl1911 sir!

I’m a trader & keeper, it kills me to see people who don’t trade & want insane prices & also don’t know how to trade…also it seems like a lot of gun shop employees aren’t up to speed on newer guns, their features, specs or values. And don’t get me started with the “it has to have an optic cut” crowd.

My local store does about 60% of MSRP for trade. Like if I paid $800 but the MSRP is $879, I will get $527 for 60% of $879 in trade or if I want to straight up sell it, it's more like 50% MSRP ($440) in cash. Depends on condition. The store never told me this is how they work it, but it don't take more than math with what they pay me to figure it out.

Great topic! I've only made money twice selling/trading used guns, but only at gun shows w/private sales. One was a S&W 19-2 P&R'd, etc., so no surprises there. The other was a plain jane RIA 1911, but that was way back when they 1st came out and everybody wanted one. I got $25 more than what I actually paid for it new. 😅

Absolutely accurate information! As for plastic handguns, they have greatly lost value over the years. A new Glock in 1987 was $400, and using The CPI Inflation Calculator that is worth $1,100 in 2024. New Glocks are $500 to $550 in 2024.

  • @MidwayShooter

I have never sold to a shop for just that reason. I use an online forum that I list what’s for sale and the price is on the add. Once I’m contacted by PM we meet up at the local shop and do the transfer. Really no drama on any sales.

Good old 1911 with ball rounds will work just fine.

lol. Current new price for the 43X MOS on Bass Pro Shops is $485, and we all know they are not the best for pricing. I would guess in perfect unfired condition, that trade should be about $330 towards another purchase.

  • @artwebb6939

I'm fortunate enough, or maybe unfortunate enough 😂 to be a frequent flyer at my LGS, so if the gun is in good condition he'll usually give me within about a hundred to $150 of the retail price, knowing he can sell it for about 50 less than a brand new one providing it's a fairly popular model

  • @frankbutta9344

The local shops where I leave don’t give much at all. There are tons of addicts who supply my favorite lgs, but I’ve been able to get some good deals that way. 🤷🏼

  • @gadsdenjim8785

43X MOS New, today for 485 @ popular online retailer

Hey any more Story time videos?? Really miss those...

  • @brandonlapine5174

I used to get really good trade in deals with my local gunshop, cus id always be buying, selling and trading so they'd give me good prices. Unfortunately they closed a few months ago. But yea, I've seen the same type of ppl in the shops which is just ridiculous. It's like a car almost, once it's bought the value immediately goes down

  • @TomRiddle-ww5on

I'm frankly tired of the loss in trading in. To the point that I'm keeping what I have now . Only buying one quality firearm a year now. Putting my $ into ammo and a dillon press

  • @waterhead1359

the reverse is pawn shops that specialize in guns and gun shops giving very little for a really nice guns. Almost every time the shop will lie and tell the customer how their gun wasn't worth much. Example a used m&p I think compact core 9mm never shot ,box everything, they told him the most they could give him was 115.00 of course made up lies about why. Keltec pf9 new condition shot one magazine through it per customer, I know it's hit and miss with keltec but this was new condition, box everything. They said most we can give you is 25 dollars. I personally was wanting to possibly sell my 1912 colt 1911 , bring back from Vietnam. After the 5th shop trashed everything about it said most we can give is 600 .it's a beautiful gun no rust , pitting just beautiful wear .all several years ago when sell guns are at the highest. Everything else you said was spot on

  • @Americanguystuff

I won’t sell or trade a gun because I can always find a use for them. If the gun is expensive, like a Wilson Combat, put $500 down and you have roughly 5 to 6 months to pay it off before it’s completed. Currently waiting on a call for my SFT9!

  • @wuldntuliktonoptb6861

Glock 43x brand new msrp with oem mags included is 448.00 and you’ll find that price straight all day. How he thought he could flip it for more then that and he had mags he was just keeping those because guess what… everybody wants a Glock, even the guy trying to flip his. He probably paid full price for an abused weapon probably during peak pandemic hype when nothing was on shelves. I sold all my greatly loved M91/30 Mosins off for all 3x flips or higher when the ammo that was once like 35 for 600 rounds of mil surp with a tin to my front door. I paid 135 for my first firearm a Finnish mosin that was in the middle of a wall of them. The rest were Russian ones I paid fair market value for at the time. I would never expect to do that with a Glock or even to get that bringing a C&R long gun into a store to trade even for store credit. Something still being rolled off an assembly line daily is not an investment firearm…
