  • I carried the 627 snub nose (aka Bloodwork) for a few months. Just talking out loud on my experience.

    I carry a 686 plus 3” almost everyday owb and I don’t mind. Speed strips for extra ammo. With the right holster and belt it conceals pretty good.

    The S&W 627 PC was the primary choice for my CCW. I debated on it for weeks, and ultimately decided against it due to the front sight failures issue. However... I didn't go to the poly lightweight route you'd expect instead. I went with a 3" Colt Python.
    My LGS had the 3" Colt Python and it was spectacular. Loved the feel, smoothness of the trigger, the look. Everything about it worked for me. Yes, it's a HEAVY revolver. Clocking in at about 38oz it's no slouch.
    What I recommend for heavy revolvers is belt and holster. Don't cheap out on these items. I wear a Kore Essentials gun belt and I use the Galco High Ride owb holster.
    It rides comfortably for the weight, it's easy to conceal at the 3-4 o'clock positions. And readily available when needed.
    I carry a speed strip and a HKS speedloader in my pockets. Loader prints a bit, and kinda bulky but I don't mind it too much.
    Either way, the 627 is a beautiful gun. I do want one myself someday. But I'm very happy I went with the Python instead. If you're going to carry a heavy handgun definitely get a good holster and belt.

    I often carry the 629PC snubby, basically the same gun in 44 magnum. I use a simply rugged sourdough IWB. Yup it's definitely a challenge, but not impossible. Great video

    Well said! I hate it when cool guns just don't work out for edc or whatever role we envision for them. And why in the world did S&W ever get rid of their Nightguard series of revolvers? Just sayin'...

    Summertime ,j frame in a Mika pocket holster or small 9. Winter time with a flannel or a jacket carry whatever you’d like ,I like a 1911 I in a shoulder rig.

    The real solution is to carry using a shoulder holster. Most of your comfort issues get resolved carrying that way.
    What reay sucks is living somewhere where you have to be more conscious of printing. Fortunately where i live that isnt as much of an issue.

      I've never sidearm carried IWB or OWB, spend a lot of time on a motorcycle shoulder holster carried for years, vertical horizontal depends on the mood
      detective style most of the time around the public S&W .38, 357 2" snob nose.
      Out doors hiking camping .50 GI. Gun crafter Industries model 1, 1911, S&W 500 magnum, Alaskan backpacker 2" 44 magnum. You can get custom made for those types of weapons and never know your carrying, To me the only way to CCW is with a shoulder holster, whether you're a James Bond or Doc Holliday

      @@badkarma65- I agree, only issue is dressing around it but if you don't have that hang up that's the way to go. The whole weight and comfort issue ceases to be when you carry that way.

    I lost a lot of weight, so I HAVE jeans to fit an N Frame IWB. Still, this is a pure winter carry.

  • @drjoya
    @drjoya Před měsícem

    I started wearing suspenders for big guns in general to hold most of the weight and it’s been a back-saver. The belt is there to hold the holster, no need to tighten too much. During summer I have a thin pair that O wear under my shirt that barely shows. Can hide them under layers in winter.

    Thanks for another great video. I got this gun a couple of months ago. It shoots really well and is surprisingly accurate. But I came to the same conclusion as you about carrying it. As much as I love the gun, it’s a bit of a chore to carry it. I’m going to try it again when the weather gets colder in the Fall. Overall I think my S&W 586 L Comp seems to carry noticeably better and only loses one round. In the Summer I carry a Kimber K6S IWB with a 2” barrel.

    I carry the S&W 629 PC every so often and don’t have an issue. Compared to my other carry gun a Springfield RO elite 1911 compact 45 acp I don’t notice much other then a little weight difference.

  • @rbm6184
    @rbm6184 Před 2 měsíci +2

    Yeah. You just can't beat a J frame or small frame for hiding on the body. That 627 revolver is just too big to try to conceal. Autos are quicker on reloads but we go back to the reality of not needing a reload in a five second gunfight for the "average" person. Then there is the reliability problem with autos that seldom happen with cleaned and maintained revolvers using good ammo. Believe it or not a 1911 with its thin profile conceals well for a big pistol so there is a legitimate argument for single stacks over thicker double stacks. Optics on concealed pistols add bulk and a snag point on pistols that needs to be as lean and mean as possible to hide on a body. Thanks for sharing.

  • @RimfireAddicted70
    @RimfireAddicted70 Před 2 měsíci

    Yea the 627 is going to be a bit on the heavy side plus the cylinder is just "wide". Once you start carrying daily you start noticing weight differences very quickly. Whether you like polymer striker fired pistols or not one of their biggest advantages is reduced weight. I know many will argue that weight is key to recoil control but not in a 9mm or at least it shouldn't be an issue that weight of of concern. Were lightweight becomes downright painful is those scandium frame ultra light wight .357's loaded with full bore mags. You hands will hate you after a full cylinder.

    That’s too bad. It’s a great gun for a lot of us, even for Edc. I use speed beez moon clip carriers for it. Don’t care that they rattle, this isn’t exactly a NPE type carry gun 🤭 my Kramer vertical scabbard keeps it tucked ( for me) PS don’t sell it, it’d be one of those guns you wish you hadn’t. Plus it’s good to have on the coffee table whenever you decide to rewatch bloodwork and S.1 true detective 😊

    It's too wide; too thick - I think that's the main problem... I've heard that you should go no higher than a 7-shot for concealed carry, IWB.
