- Hey all, so the Canucks finally did the right thing and let Boudreau go rather than trot him out in front of the press as they have been doing for months.

Never felt so bad for a coach being fired. Canucks organization should be ashamed
The issue is the organization would have to have shame in the first place
Lol the Canucks don’t care that’s the sad part
Doesn’t stuff like this just drive competent candidates to pass on the organization? Making it more difficult in the end
After this disaster I'm surprised that Rick Tocchet even decided to finalize the deal with the canucks
Same. I can't believe the wild fired him instead of take care of the roster. Can't believe the Canucks think tocchet will be better with the same roster Bruce couldn't win with. Oh well .
Watching Bruce stand on the bench with tears in his eyes while the crowd chanted his name was gut wrenching. I can't believe how unprofessional this management group has been.
I've never seen fans cheer a _coach_ before. That's some class by the fans. :)
@lunaticfringe3680 But not the bottom bottom, because they don't deserve Bedard.
fans have been great so it makes it much less worse
The Canucks are the most gutless organization in the NHL, and they’re definitely up there when it comes to all four North American sports leagues
@@c.v.emmans the fans deserve!
This is the closest I think I've ever seen Shannon to just absolutely blowing his lid, you can really tell he's furious about the way they've treated Bruce. True fan, truly cares.
"No, I'm not toning it down. This is ineptitude personified. And I want to apologize to Bruce Boudreau." Passionate words from a fan who cares about their team. ❤️
One of the best videos you've made, Shannon. Because of your passion.
I'm a Kraken fan myself who - after falling in love with hockey when attending Atlanta Flames games while in college - dreamed of an NHL team in Seattle for 40+ years. Despite living about 100 miles from Vancouver, I was never a Canucks fan. Part of the reason was that they never seemed to gel as a franchise, so instead I followed teams who signed players from the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds - Patrick Marleau and Mark Parrish to name a couple. I am thankful that the Kraken have Ron Francis and that he seems to be building our franchise the right way: from the ground up while also ensuring that we are at least competitive as we build the team. He's taken advantage of our cap space to get players like Burokovsky and Bjorkstrand and made smart waiver pickups like Tolvanen. Look where we are now.
I hope that Vancouver can figure this out, but they never have in the past. So I can empathize with your frustration.
Good on you for speaking out.
Ron Francis is THE class act guy. Amazing player and now that he is management, he is up there with Steve Yzerman in terms of hockey IQ.
As a fellow Kraken fan, I hope that the Canucks turn things around because I want a healthy & competitive rivalry with them instead of having to resort to be rivals with teams that are not close by such as Vegas or LA. Vancouver is our natural rivals geographically along with Portland (who aren't getting an NHL team any time soon unless the Coyotes relocate there which is unlikely) & it's a shame to see this rivalry quickly become one sided even though we have yet to beat them.
“I’m not toning it down.”
Never do, THG. Never do.
@@chrisguardiano6143 oh, wow, yeah. That is crazy how it feels super one-sided with the Kraken being more cohesive than the Canucks… but the Canucks have never lost to the Kraken. How weird!
FINALLY, the NHL has COME TO SEATTLE!
I already miss Bruce ... this just isn't right. He comes in, salvages a season for a team in free fall and then management changes nothing in the off season and fires him to distract from their own failures.
Management didn’t change nothing. They made many changes, set up for failure. Or at least not for success. Scouts, assistant coaches, some players, contracts, and more behind the scenes changes were made.
I agree with you and subscribed cause of your frankness. What about the eastern influences affecting hockey? What about the politics involved with players who don’t want to come west and perhaps they and teams have secret plans to get their way. Canucks ownership has, imo, perpetuated this club to be a training ground and expendable team to boost eastern numbers. I m o.
My buddies and I agree the firing of Bruce was to distract from the failures of management. What can fans do now?
@@CorryGal and ownership for that management embarrassing fiasco
he was gone at the end of the season regardless, he wasn't the management choice for coach, another one of Benning/Aquilini's mistakes.
Tough environment for tochet to walk into……. The ownership sucks this wasn’t Bruce’s fault
Bennings fault, and will be for years. Bruce situation was ownerships fault for signing him to an oddball contract before the GM was in place.
@@benjaminaxselholm ownership…

@bc5299 might as well just become a Bruins fan because no amount of complaining will change that. We can only hope that when the retool fails they finally do a proper rebuild.
@@benjaminaxselholm and where do you think Benning got his orders from ? Ownership!
I've gotta say, in all my years as a Canucks fan, this is the closest I've ever come to giving up on them. The way the organization treated one of the nicest, most genuine people in the hockey world is unforgivable. Without a change in ownership, I fear this is only the beginning of this dysfunction.
beginning of the dysfunction? have u not been paying attention the past 10 years?
this is getting close to the Ballard era. the moment Lindon was let got for mentioning a rebuild, was when I figured this isn't going to be good.
I watched Bruce's Caps teams and even though they had tough playoff losses and they had to move on, he is still remembered fondly here. He's a great coach and a standup guy, and how the Canucks have treated him is disgraceful.
I remember watching him to ,here in Biloxi, Mississippi, he was our coach for our first ever ECHL franchise, the Mississippi Seawolves ,that started in the '96-'97 season, he took us to the championship in three seasons and we won it all, the Kelly cup, after being down 3 games to 1 in a best of seven, his guidance helped our players come back all the way , he's a great coach and a great human being.
Watching a dignified elderly man, who has accomplished so much and has given so much to the game, be brought to tears was absolutely disgusting. The entire Canucks front office is an embarrassment to hockey and to the city.
I liked him as the Wild coach, too. He opened up the fun quotient on a team that had never recovered from the Jacques Lemaire/Mike Yeo tenures of boredom.
Gabby is a hockey lifer - (he is in the movie slapshot for christ sakes !) the way he was treated is a real low point for Jimmy Rutherford . How or why would people want to play for Vancouver in an environment like that
Same! Another Caps fan here, Bruce didnt deserve to be treated like that 🥺😢😭😭

Shannon’s little rant of passion for the Canucks really shows how much we, as fans, love Bruce.
Shannon
The fact that he was left in the dark for so long is the worst part. They should have left the decision to stay behind the bench up to him. “Bruce, we are moving on but it’s going to take a few weeks. The news has already been leaked. Do you want to finish out your last few games or do you want us to find an interim?” Decent respect is so easy to accomplish if you are transparent and we know they weren’t transparent with him, because he said last night he didn’t know why he was still there. I am not upset about the coaching change, but the way this was handled is absolutely disgusting and as a long term fan, I hope this organization burns to the ground. I can’t wait for all the current players to move on, so I can officially stop watching.
Look at the bright side they still have Cammi and Emilie!! LOL
Bruce was out the moment Rutherford was hired. He's made no secret of the fact he didn't want Bruce from Day 1. I once had respect for Rutherford, but this was just a brutal injustice to watch. I doubt I'll be able to muster any good will for the team I have supported for 52 years until this management team is on the junk heap.
@@GreggGies JR probably still ticked Bruce scored his first NHL goal against him.
Good call.
@@GreggGies Before hiring Rutherford, the owners should have had asked Bruce for his input. It would have made more sense. Or vice versa, ask Rutherford, if he is happy about the coaching. They did not give Bruce a chance, the offseason was terrible. He brought this team out of the gutters last year. Had it been the full season you the Canucks possibly would have made the playoffs, but they kept Green way too long.
It’s refreshing to see Shannon show such passion for his favourite team.

@Atheos B. Sapien OK there sunshine. Go have a nap, you'll feel better.
Crazy to look back at this video considering how the Canucks season has gone this year.
Shannon you probably did more thinking and planning for this one video than the whole crew of GMs did in their coaching decisions this year for the Canucks.
I love thg - "the fan" just as much as I love thg - "the respected hockey commentator"
@TheHockeyGuy Shannon, I hope they shout "Bruce, there it is!" At every home game for the rest of the season.
My favorite hockey quotes are both from Harry Neale (paraphrasing): 'I know my players don't like my practices, but that's okay I don't like their games'. And- "We're not playing well on the road and we can't win at home. My problem is that I can't think of anywhere else to play'.
"We're not playing well on the road and........", I had forgotten this quote, and it made me pass a french fry through my nose when I started laughing
If we’d have been shown the absolute best case scenario situation we’d be in one year later, no one would have believed it.

Of all of the dark chapters in Canucks history, this is one of the darkest. I've rooted for this team since the mid 70s, but I've never been more tempted to abandon them. What happens between now and this summer will let me know if I should stick with the team or go back to being a Bruins fan like I was originally.
Been watching the Canucks, but I’ve so proud of of how the Bruins are doing. They’re so focused on having equals and collaboration all thanks to Big Z. Meanwhile, Aqualoser says that coaches can only coach and manager can only manage or there’s no alignment. What matters more is synergy.
Thanks Shannon. You have an amazing ability to run a 30 minute thought bubble. Zero editing and we love it. Let's go Oilers.

This really sucks, I'm a habs fan, but I strongly feel Boudreau was a good coach, and a nice guy, he deserves better than this, I hope gets hired on somewhere else quickly.
No worries because with his experience and skill of handling players some team will feel very lucky to have him!
I had never seen someone come in, and receive a unique chant so fast as "Bruce there it is!"
And that was for the coach... seriously. A fan favorite after like 1 season
"If you want it, don't just think you want it, go out and fucking want it" - Bruce Boudreau
One of the best quotes ever
canucks will continue as a heartless (i dont specifically mean cruel, but without heart in their game and front office decisions) franchise as long as the owner remains
Bruce Boudreau is a great coach and I think this was a really bad move by the Canucks. Nobody can fix them overnight, and Bruce did have buy-in from his players. He needed more time to get them playing in his high-skill high-speed and tough-to-learn system.
No structure though
I would like to congratulate the Canucks on being the NHL's official tire fire. Hard to do in a league where the Coyote exist and where the Sabres and Senators wrestled for it for years but here we are and Vancouver's got a decent lead.
While last year the Coyotes, Sabres, and Senators may have been floundering with the Canucks at the bottom of the league one can argue that now all three of those franchises are moving forward while the Canucks are going in reverse.
“This is ineptitude personified” should be the Canucks motto
Should be the Vancouver motto
Or, as Shannon said, "Perpetual Mediocrity".
The nucks have been my 2nd favorite team for over 13 years now but this has left a bad taste in my mouth. It's honestly hard to cheer for this franchise, they handled this terribly and I feel terrible for Bruce
You want to keep cheering for them, go ahead. I just tossed my Canucks mug in the ditch and will drop off my three jerseys to the Good Will when I go out late on today.

Most sport fans have one team per sport, if the Canucks are your second team, who is your first? And why have a second? Fans that sit on the fence and only support 'their' club in the good times, aren't fans.

Vancouver used to be known as the goalie graveyard now it's the coaches graveyard.
I've probably been a Canucks fan a bit longer than you. Watching this video is VERY similar to the feelings I have right now.
I remember the Laforge disaster, we were what 5-20 or something when he was fired and Neale took over again. I also waffle between when being a Canucks fan was more fun. The early to mid-90s were more exciting, but the winning in the early 20-teens, was great! I actually had a 1/3 season back in the 90s. Then I moved to the States. I've watched a Canucks game in every city in the States where I've lived, LA, Denver, Dallas , except currently Seattle. Maybe I'll go on Wednesday to complete that and witness the first time Seattle beats the Canucks, in my 90's vintage Jersey. So much more to say as a long term fan like yourself, except you say it better in general.
Lack of fan-base patience is a BIG deal here though.
Bruce there it is
Expecting a Bruce there it is chant next game.
correction - Harry Neale was Canucks head coach from '78 to '82 and Roger Neilson was his asst. Roger was made interim head coach in '82 when Harry was suspended for a fan altercation in Quebec. The team did so well, they gave Roger the job for real in time for the Cup run, and Harry was bumped up to GM. (edit - that being said, the fact that this is all from memory is outstanding, well done!)
Wouldn't be surprised if Kuzmenko decided to not re-sign and said that part of the reason he signed in Vancouver was because of Bruce. Bruce literally drove 6 hours just to meet him and talk to him about joining Canucks. And this kind of person our management did like this.
Kuzmenko is a really good player and as an oiler fan I was disappointed he chose the canucks over the oilers but maybe now we will get him!…sorry about Bruce and he is a great coach!
I just can't see Tocchet doing much better than Bruce, the problem is bigger and deeper to solve it simply by changing a coach.
Its a failed organization. They have to relocate this team. Vancouver doesnt deserve a nhl team.

The crowd at every home game should continually chant Bruce there it is the whole game every game! That will let management know they are pissed about BB!
I'm one of the younger fans who started cheering for them in the years leading up to the 2011 Cup run, so while I can't comment on the older days of pain, this is the most embarrassing time I've ever seen the team... For the first time I feel ashamed to be cheering for them, Bruce deserved better. I hope he comes to Ottawa in the off-season for one more go with a team on its way up
Bruce has highest win % of Ducks coaches. He changed them from a lead the league in penalties, smash everybody to still aggressive but looking to the results of creating turnovers over the outputs of how many hits. Very active sticks on the forecheck. I watched a few of his practices and they were AMAZING. The Ducks absolutely flowed with easy breakouts. If he were 55 years old I would be thrilled to have him back. I suspect like everyone that 68 years old does zap some energy and enthusiasm. Bottom line Bruce is a great coach and that losing game 7s is just a weird coincidence.
Haven't watched this channel in a while because my hockey fandom is in the toilet, being a Canucks fan. But this one was one to catch. I can absolutely feel the emotion and frustration in your voice Shannon, and so often you are able to capture the heartbeat of a Canucks fan. The pain and commiseration I can feel in this video is so genuine. You really capture how embarrassing this whole situation is, and how much the franchise is betraying a real stand up old school hockey guy and a family man.

Love love love this content; much better content than any coverage on a major network.
Your take on how Bruce should have been handled was spot on. He's a really likeable hockey guy and a very good coach (he's second in win percentage for coaches with over 1000 games behind Scotty Bowman!). The problem is the team's makeup at the moment and cap issues. The lack of good prior picks with no one really in the pipe is huge. Address scouting and blow the team up. It'll be a terrible window, sure - but it's better than perpetual mediocrity.
Remember how bad San Jose and Tampa Bay were in the early 90s? That is the direction this team is headed, but the difference is that they won't get a rebuild anytime soon.
Happy Lunar New Year! Love the rabbit touch at the back lol
Feel badly for Boudreau but in the big picture, it's just another day in sports. Tochett and Foote is just what this Country Club needs right now. Seperating the wheat from the chaff is step one .
Didn't Kuzmenko also come because of Boudreau's pitch during the meeting. Kuz may look at how he was treated and want no part of the team after this season.
I feel so bad for Boudreau. The Canucks organization failed him.
Thank you for your every day attention to all things hockey but especially today for not being afraid to bleed for your team in public. I hope better things await for both Canucks fans and for coach Boudreau.

Shannon I particularly enjoyed your analysis and thoughts on this video. You do top notch work (this is why I have been subscribed for years) but I found *this* video and your analysis / thoughts to be of even higher quality than normal good work.
Great video Shannon. You hit it on the button. I was at the last 2 home games and you can just tell the players don’t want to be here. That’s on management and ownership not on the coach. Great video as always, I just wish you touched on the ownership history as well as I feel that is a big part of the problem today.
If there was a video where i thought Shannon would raise his voice... this was going to be the one.
he will be back ... who would not hire this guy easily the most likeable coach in hockey hands down
Seeing how this played out, I don't know how Vancouver can be seen as a viable place to sign on as a free agent. In less than a year we had to deal with Jason Dickinson's undiagnosed broken hand, Rachel Doerrie's drama, Pearson's injuries, and now Bruce's very public firing.
What a great video. You really let your heart speak out in this one! As a habs fan, I'm really glad we have the new management team (Gorton and Hughes). I hope that Vancouver will get something like this someday. It really makes a difference.

Man Shannon I feel you. Things are painful right now in canuckland. Still early in the Rutherford regime so there’s still hope that they can find a vision but it’s going to be painful getting there. Probably no real hope before about three years time at best. All we can hope for is that Aquilinis finally understood he needs to keep his paws out of things…
Ty Shannon it hurts but it needs to be said I was hurting as an oilers fan when they were doing the ex oilers club and you could see it wasn't working and all the players on mass exodus I totally understand how Vancouver fans must feel and definitely feel sorry for Bruce and the mishandling of that situation I did enjoy they game last night when Bruce challenged the oilers one goal and won it and all the fans cheered on Bruce I really hope Vancouver mgmt will get the head out of the sand and realize they need to change alot of things behind the scenes before things can excel
And it's not like Rick Tocchet has proved to be a good head coach. He's just Rutherford's guy. Also, it's funny seeing Dreger block people who bring up that his stance on Gallant's firing in Florida was very different from how he feels about Bruce and Vancouver management.

Thank you for Shannon for putting voice to how I’m sure a majority of us are feeling. I will readily accept personnel changes as they are part of the business, warranted or not, but this is not how you treat people! I hate that another owner/management team has run this team in such a way and once again “we” (the Canucks) are the laughingstock of the league. It’s going to be hard to forgive this era. Smyl comes out to try and save the sinking ship last season, just for us to end up at the bottom again.
This is NOT a one man problem, but with the drafting and development problems you can start by relieving Ron Delorme from his position. It’s time to completely revamp how player development happens.
I’m okay with unpopular personnel moves by the team, but this has not been the way to do it. First and foremost, you treat your people with the upmost respect entering, during and exiting your organization. It’s cliche in Vancouver to say your disgusted with the team right now but I am after this. I’m sorry for Bruce.
